so i was playing a game, and it suddenly froze.
i could still move my mouse cursor, so i thouhgt, oh it crashed, and i alt F4'd and alttabbed. getting back into Windows, my screen started flashing black every 6-7 seconds or so.

it's a laptop, and it looked like it kept doing a force screen refresh thing. i've got a function like that bound to one of the keyboard combination keys.

so i was like what's going on here, and shut down the thing.
when booting back up, i got white dots/lines down the screen, even in the boot menu.

so far, so bad. windows starts booting, i get the funky blue bar-scroll-thingy, and then black. nothing else. just black.

so i booted into Safe mode. that worked, and did a system restore out of safe mode. so far it worked, computer shut down, booted back up, and into windows, BAM, still the black screen. crap.

suggestions/ideas to how.what/why and how to fix it?

right now, i'm going to reinstrall windows.

It's rare that gfx cards die out...but it's possible and even higher possible with a laptop.

i'm fairly certain its the gfx card now.

reinstalled XP, and it worked, display was still decently fucked, but it was running. i have gfx drivers installer on my harddrive, so i installed the drivers, and POOF, back to black screen.

going to bring it over to the computershop now, and if it's beyond saving, i'll just get a new gfxcard, propably a DX10 card.

pretty FUCKING SHIT timing, since i need to send out applications, and all my stuff is on that laptop.

going to reinstall windows AGAIN now, and back up those important files.
then i'm off to get ti fixed propably.

yeah fucked me up when it happend to me.
ask dano i was like depressed for like 2 weeks.

i had wanted a decent comptuer for years and years but didnt have the money to buy one. i finally manage to get one that plays games well, had it for a week and a half and it burnt out.
I have F.e.a.r. call of duty 2 and Quake 4 sitting on my computer (new games when i got this puter) and i never got the cahnce to play them.

Hopefully u can get that card under warranty.
mine was under warranty but they sent back another fucked Vid card that didnt work straight outta the box and then the warranty ran out.

hope u have better luck then me :)

ye i should have like 3 more years of warranty, so that's no big deal.
anyway, just dropped it off at the shop, and they also told me that most likely it's the gfx card that got fucked.

so cry. SEVERELY bummed atm.

Is this laptop from Dell by any chance? Dell makes high-performance laptops that have awesome specs and awesome breakdown rates.

Wait Tweek, you're actually going to upgrade that laptop video card? I know that with the MXM Type 3 interface, you can theoretically remove and replace the video card, but I thought the options were uber-limited.

Sounds like my laptop. You need a new GPU.

it's a XXODD, dutch manufacturer, best i've ever worked with.
it's a disturbingly resilient thing.

and you get awesome customer service.

i'm not too fussed, computer breakdown, can happen, not much to do but wait. i can get worked up about it, but no point in that.
