The pictures had been digitally altered to hide the man's face behind a swirly pattern. But computer experts at Germany's BKA police agency, which discovered them, were able through forensic work to reproduce recognizable images.

What a PS nub. Filter > Distort > Twirl. Not only were his pictures a crime against humanity, they were a crime amongst digital imaging. Someone that stupid at photoshop NEEDS to be arrested.

I love how everyone calls it "forensic work" yet it's a 5 second process. You just re apply the twirl filter but in reverse and it practically turns it back to normal.

Still gotta call it something regardless of the time involved. :p
Besides, that makes the article a subtle advertisement for whichever crime show the website is affiliated with...

:Oh shit Tex is on the ball.
Also, it's easy. Get a photo, any photo, open in photoshop. Go Filter > Distort > Twirl and set it at 200 clockwise. Then, do the exact same filter again, but 200 negative (anti clockwise) and you get nearly the exact same image you started with. You can fix it up with the liquify filter if you want, but theres not much need.
Although, thinking about this case, it would have been abit harder. With the twirl filter you'd have to get it to twirl on the exact spot and angle that he did to begin with. It'd be rare to get it first go, but after a while of finely moving the selection you could do it.

All he had to do was draw a black box around his face, in MSPaint, and he would've stayed out of trouble.
What an idiot.

Hey, who goes and replies to a post that obviously doesn't concern them seeing as they don't have photoshop.

You got to love it when they bring themselves in -- but don't *actually* bring themselves in so they can't cut a deal.
