I love the spin from this White House. It is like no other I have ever heard. It proves the philosophy of the Big Lie (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Lie) to such an extent that it could never be doubted again.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Bush said Wednesday he will not sign a government surveillance bill unless it provides the tools and flexibility intelligence professions need to protect the America against terrorism.

The bill, the president said, must "keep the intelligence gap firmly closed and ensure that protections intended for the American people are not extended to terrorists overseas who are plotting to harm us."

Retroactive immunity to telecommunications companies that cooperated with electronic surveillance, must also be part of the bill, Bush said.

He said the companies "are facing multibillion-dollar lawsuits only because they are believed to have assisted in the efforts to defend our nation following the 9/11 attacks."

Hold on there, Mr. President. AT&T was sued because they were caught red-handed intercepting the calls of innocent Americans in an overzealous support of your so called "protections". (http://www.homelandstupidity.us/2006/04/29/us-asserts-state-secrets-privilege-in-att-lawsuit/) A little honesty on your part would be nice, but why start something new?

I know this is old, but I never got an answer that I liked, so I'll ask it again:
WHY THE HELL DID THEY RE-ELECT THAT MONKEY?

God dammit, you know, I didn't specifically see all of this coming, but I sure did warn everybody! 7 years ago I was saying, look, Gore's a retard, but Bush is a retard AND he's gonna screw us over, on purpose. All my republican friends and family said "oh pshaw." Then 3 years ago I said oh for the love of God look what he's managed to do to us in 4 years, he's totally fucked us over, can you imagine what he's gonna do if he gets another 4 years?! And all my republican friends and family said "he's done great things for this country!" hmph. My ass! My only regret is that I came to legal voting age too late to vote against that... that... pusillanimous pestiferous dysteleological cretin!
haha big funny sounding words. that insult is kind of an inside joke.

Heh, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if he somehow figures out a way to run for a third term. He won't get reelected in that case, though. He better not.

It pisses me off, though, cause now all my friends and family have switched sides, but they all refuse to admit they were wrong in the first place. They tell me things like "how could we have known? We didn't know he was going to be like this." Well, I knew! It was so fucking obvious, especially for his second term! How the fuck could you be so blind?! Jesus.

Now I'm pissed. Thanks a lot, Tex.

edit: I've said it before and I'll say it again: this government is really completely fucked up and if there's no legal way to go about reform, then it's time we got off our fat lazy American asses and did something illegal to get it back on track! Come and get me, you fucking CIA webcrawlers!

Ignore this post... due to a flaw in the ignore system I have to quote this post to click the links.

The Big Lie, eh?

the big lie technique requires a totalitarian system of either political or social control (e.g., print and visual media).
Bush does not control any forms of media. Thanks for playing.

My ass and a side of beans. Well, he doesn't control anything I suppose, but big business and conservative intrest have a lot of control over the media.
Rupert Murdoch.

Bullshit. Big business is what you make of it, and conservative interest only controls one station, Fox, which is blatantly obvious.

You understand what tacit control means, MZ?

Thanks for sleeping.

And I like how you deflect from the meat of the matter to bite down on Big Lie semantics. Care to address Bush's continued crapola regarding spying on US citizens? Do you have a new defense we haven't heard?

Yes, I understand what it means, it just doesn't exist given this situation. Give me three good reasons how the Bush administration controls the media.

Texrat

Of course it exists. I just don't expect a Bush defender to ever acknowledge it.

And only one proof suffices. The Bush admin used accusations of antipatriotism and other fear mongering to cow the general media into parrotting the neocon line for years. It's only been in the last 2 years that mainstream media started snapping out of that de facto sycophancy, and it's no coincidence that their rediscovery of gonads dovetails with his sharp decline in popularity and consolidation with his small hardcore constituency. Laws passed (such as the misnamed "patriot" act) also chilled the media. Library research suddenly became a target for "terrorism" investigations.

Another factor was the practice of embedding journalists with troops. That allowed Bush and company to spin the war reports, which again is tacit control. If you manage the upstream, you control the downstream. This doesn't require a journalism degree to comprehend; it's common sense. Same goes for refusal to allow publication of flag-draped coffin photos. Control, control, control. I don't care how hard you deflect or deny, it's patently obvious.

And still you fail to address the original complaint of Bush's typical spin.

EDITED to remove tackiness, sorry.

Hell I could post these all day... but anyone willing to consider the ramifications of this shit surely has the point by now.
