There's an update for the game, it appears that when you have installed the game and the ded.server on vista they both get updated. But when you have the server on a different machine it won't update (hopefully automatic someday too) so... anyone found a stand-alone update yet?

It's a w2k3 machine, probably won't run and i don't want to use an activation for me server just for an update.

Did you just try the listed Halo2 update, even though the date still says 5/22/07? That's on the Microsoft H2Vista support site.
Please post results.

Yup, it's still just that one.

I updated my Halo 2 on Vista with the H2Server oct. update :(
Now I cannot play on my own server !
It is a dedicated 2003 machine sitting 6 feet away :)
Someone needs to get their head out of their xyz.

And you should read, you didn't update your H2V with the H2Server update.
I was asking for a server update and apparently you could use it too...

Oh, intersting little fact about this update. Before we had three dedi servers using live silver accounts. All three were using the same Halo2 product key. After this update, even though it didn't happen on the Dedi server, one of the servers was getting rejected from live do to 'too many servers running from this prod key'. So I just typed in another of our clans prod keys to get the 3rd going again. Thought it was a weird coincidence.

Who agrees with me that its a sad attempt to get us to buy gold? (we can't play on deds but golds can start their own servers)
Vicky

Agreed!
If that's the case then i'm done with h2v.
Back to halo1, battlefield etc.etc...

Not, sure if this has anything to with it but, after that update I can't play online it says the game has closed down or you are using a different version of halo 2

Try using a gold account, if you have one. That should let you in. Most people seem to be setting up their host games with 'gold only'.

Sorry about the confusion.
I did a quick copy and paste so I could get out the door.

If you knew the exact files of the dedi servers that were updated and you know the location of the updated files (assuming you installed them somewhere with your H2V) couldn't you copy those and send them over to your other machine?

I don't have gold and have never had this problem before.

I've already tried the server files in the server map from someone that had h2v and the ded installed and had the update but it still doesn't work, could be some other file or maybe a regkey that reports a different version to the client.

I heard that when you have the ded installed on your vista gaming machine it would also be upgraded. So i had to downgrade my h2v upgrade to a previous one in order to be able to upgrade again. A while ago i had to re-install vista because of some (serious) hardware upgrading and i didn't remove the old install yet that's located under windows.old.
So i renamed the halo2 map to halo2-new and copied the old halo2 map in the right spot. Then installed the dedicated server on that vista machine as well. Ran halo2. Upgraded again and this time also the server was updated. Copied these files to my w2k3 machine:
H2Admin.exe
H2Server.exe
h2server.exe.cat
h2server.exe.cfg
mss32.dll
Et voila.
For people who can't do this i'll upload these files on filefront.

haha.. Just for my knowledge, which dedi server on the list is yours?
Vicky
October 13th, 2007, 12:07 PM
The one that's nearly or completely full :)
I saw that there are like 2 others, guess they run a vista based ded.

Pat, I see you here, needs more rcon app =D

Btw, if you would be willing to offer another activation for h2v you could do something similar of course, uninstall h2v, reinstall h2v + ded-server. Then run h2v and do the rest.

I can't believe there still hasn't been an official download yet.. Us H2 players would have been down and out if it wasn't for Vicky's upload.

Just updated the H2Vista.net server. Thanks a lot Vicky. I was going to downgrade to get the installation packages which are stored in the temp update directories as it installs, but I was too occupied with other things.

Glad to be of service. Weird though... even the official servers aren't updated, it's like they made the game-update and spread it then left for a holiday...

Thanks for alerting me Lowsy. We'll have the official download live asap. I apologize for our sloppy delivery (AGAIN!).

Oh, I wish we were on holiday. It's been a very odd month or so for our team. A lot of changes have been made recently in our org. (the bungie thing, new execs, etc.). The end result is basically that we are now on a new project. I wish I had some great news to pass along to you guys about continuing support, but its looking pretty dim at the moment. Please feel free to contact me about issues and i'll forward them to the old boss of the boss of my boss...or something. Maybe someday I'll be able to tell you all about the crazy stuff that has happened.
I'll let you know when the update is up. Thanks for your help Vicky.

You're kidding me, right? Not to scream apocalypse, but support is being dropped already when there's still so many problems with the software? I really hope I'm just blowing this out of proportion, and that support will be there for at least another year or so.
Halo: Custom Edition was never fully supported, and it still received updates and recognition from its developers; it wasn't until recently that Bungie and Gearbox dropped support fully for it, though Gearbox still retains the Halo CE forums on their boards.
Now looking back, I can safely say that this game has been nothing but an endless string of disappointments on both the XBox and the PC. It's like Bungie never even cared.

It's nice(?) to finally know for sure now that this was all nothing more than a ploy to throw something that works "OK", then take the cash and run.
I honestly would have rather never seen this game come to the PC given the state it is in. It has done nothing but disgrace Microsoft and the LIVE service. If I had the option to buy it now, I wouldn't think twice about not buying it, even if I didn't have it for the Xbox. Now, I wish I could get my $50 back that I wasted on a game that is just borderline playable. When the negatives far outweigh the positives of something, there's something miserably wrong.
Now that you mention that there's another project you're working on, if it is in anyway similar to the H2V port, how can you expect for it to do better than this? All that came out of this was a few quick bucks and a horrible reputation for Microsoft, Bungie, Games for Windows LIVE, and any other affiliated companies/services.
Please understand that I am in no way trying to be disrespectful towards you. I know you have little-to-no say in what you are told to do, and all you can do is bend over and take it up the ass from corporate.

Bum,
Thanks for posting back and being honest about the situation. It looks like our worst fears have been realized. This H2V program is not getting the full attention we have been hoping for.
Hey, how about some kind of list of things that were recently updated? I can't find anything that changed, besides the video resolution some people were happy to see (on these boards)
Well, it won't stop me from playing and starting a H2V league (soon). There are regular players in this game and those people are -good-. Or maybe I really am lowsy. Either way I have fun.
Catch ya later...

Ok np. Enough with the updating and stuff, perhaps you've read the letter posted on this forum as well...
I think this game could still have potential if the custom stuff was opened up, and 1 simple thing could help a lot if it would be changed: 'Don't have the custom map? Download it somewhere!' Just like CE. (i won't go into HEK stuff because that's obvious i guess, wasting korns time unlocking stuff whilst you have ready-to-use unlocked versions available :eyesroll:).

whatchu-talkin-bout-willis?
I thought H2V had a great automatic download system already through live? But aside from that, I thought you could still download and copy a custom map to your hard drive, just like the CE days.
