How would I go about creating the warped air effect following the bullet in Max? Mostly, what type of material warps and bends the perspective of the geometry located directly behind the effect?

simple. just make spheres, scale the down in 1 axis, and then just copy them a few times in the same axis you scaled it down into, then just apply a clear material, with a refraction on it. (refraction tab, select a material where you normally would select "bitmap" select refraction or whatever it's called.)

the renderer should take care of the rest for the bullet trail.

you'll need to have that image in your scene for it to get refracted though.

Or you could go about a more "realistic" method and make donuts with various other planes here and there. The donuts would be the main distortion and the planes would have a more transparent material giving it a continuity.

I'm using vray with an HRDI map to light the scene. No matter what I do, I can't make it look more like air and less like water or glass. All I can think of to make it look more like air is to get rid of that shiny glare at the bottom, which I have no idea how to do.

There's a lot more going on than just textures; don't forget all the shaders with their various maps and lighting calculations, cube maps, etc. Post-processing effects need to be done too, like bloom, HDR, and other shtuff like that, although they're pretty easy.

Yah, but the PS1 hardly has any of that. As far as I can tell, almost all the games (except for awesome games like crash team racing, which I couldn't believe had what looked to be dynamic moving lights, and dynamic mirrors) have everything baked on, except for a few shiny metal surfaces or water. Do baked light maps take a heavy toll?

All the games don't necessarily have to run at maximum capacity, remember that some developers are either rushing or lazy. Take FF VII-IX for example. They barely use any polygons for their models, and use pre-rendered backgrounds, and they were on the PS1. The PSX could handle that amount, but that doesn't mean that the game would go to the limit.

The needles are mass produced for all medical needs and as such, during production all batches are sterilized by the company. Then, the Department of Justice purchase a batch from said company to use in their lethal injections. The company that produces the needles doesn't know which batch will the Department of Justice will buy, so it's much easier just to sterilize every single batch. It won't cost them any noticeable amount of money to sterilize those few batches and in fact probably works out cheaper than stopping the production line, removing a batch so stop it getting sterilized, reserving it for transport to the Death Row locations and so on.

Jello is neither solid nor liquid; it is a colloidal suspension.

The gelatin in Jello is made of long solid chains of protein molecules. When you mix the gelatin with hot water, these protein molecules break apart and become suspended in the water. However, the individual molecules remain solid. So this is not a solution. As the mixture cools, the protein molecules come back together to form long chains again. Should I bother learning a new language? I figure I should do something useful with my spare time, but I'm not really sure if this would be useful. Down here in America land, schools force Spanish on you. I have no interest in Spanish, due to my general dislike of all the wetbacks flooding my city (Texas...), and the fact that it's so generic. However, it's pretty much the only language that would be useful in the U.S. I want to learn Japanese, but after reading a bit about it on the internet I see that it is nearly impossible without actually living in Japan. German is next on my list, and is supposedly easier to learn if your already fluent in English. The thing is, I have the tendency to forget pretty much everything that isn't used in my life (making school pretty much worthless), so I don't want to spend years learning something I'll forget in a few months. That means I will have to USE the language after a learn it. I'm assuming I will be able to remember it as long as I join German game servers with voice chat/go to German forums/whatever, but I'm not entirely sure.

TL;DR: Should I bother learning a language besides Spanish?

Im considering quitting my philosphy studies as I'm starting to think that the courses that i attend and maybe philosophy in general somehow simplyfies things to an extent its various terms, the various definitions, variations of term and definitions and the philosophical models that are based on those become hollow shells of intellectual masturbation. Maybe the studies themselves, the schools of thought or philosphy in general is just way too partial to gain significant insights of, well everything or maybe im just too lazy or dumb to grasp that there's nothing more to grasp than my own prejudices of what a certain "philosphopher" had to say and merely formulate my sentences so that nobody notices, but as of now, i think my whole studies is a mere narcisistic nerd-congregation confusing a single wikipedia-article with wikipedia itself, ignoring all the hotlinks that would explain [or even define] essential parts of it linking to other articles that in turn require even more additional explanatory articles and so on.

tl;dr: My intellectual dick went limp masturbating to my own prejudices of other peoples prejudices of old/dead peoples prejudices of how things are.
What else could i study that keeps me entertained/passionate for another year?

Do Japanese. It's much better than English to learn (sentence patterns are logical even though they may seem a bit backwards at first) and has a lot less dicking around than english.

Spanish is worth it if you really want to put in the time to learn it. And you have to put in A LOT of time, for really any language. The good thing about living in Texas, is I'm sure there's a few people that are native speakers that would be willing to help you learn. Yeah, spanish sucks, but so does every language. I had to take spanish for two years and it was my least favorite class.

If you're not going to learn Spanish, Chinese would probably be most beneficial. I'd rather learn Russian or German before Chinese, just because I think they have more of a "cool" factor.

No language is really easy to learn. You have to practice an hour every night if you ever want to be fluent in it.

You can choose either: which language would be most beneficial to you (they all will have some benefit.. just for a job application, if you get certified, it doesn't matter in what language, you WILL get paid more), or you can choose which language you want to learn.

I want to learn Russian, but I know Spanish would be most beneficial to me since I live in Texas.

I'm in my third year of taking Chinese. First and second year my Chinese teacher was a crazy bitch who threw shit around the room if we got an answer wrong, and would spend an entire period waiting for one kid to give an answer he/she didn't know. But seriously, if you are a cheap bastard like me who doesn’t want to pay for shit, and isn’t stupid enough to complete those scam offer sites, then join THIS offer site. It gives you points for signing up for (with fake information…) newsletters or free samples or some other cancerous garbage. If you do it right, you should be able to get $5 or more a day within about 15 minutes. Also, free buttsecks.

Here is a tutorial, because it took me a month of trial and error before I could get it to credit me properly:

1. Download and install Firefox 3. This isn’t optional.

2. Download and install Roboform (the free trail last forever). This automatically fills out offer forms with pre-set information, so you don’t have to type.

3. If you know somebody who is an asshole, or just don’t like, search their name on www.whitepages.com (http://www.whitepages.com/) and find their address and phone number. This information will be used to fill out the offers which feed points to your prize rebel account. You only use your real address on your prize rebel account, as they don’t spam you. The other sites however, will spam you to hell. If you don’t have anybody you hate, type in a random name and city to find some random person’s information. However, you will be doing this under the conscious that you will be spamming the person to death, and giving out their phone number and address to marketers. You won’t, however, be costing them any money. If you do, you don’t deserve to live.

These offer sites check the validity of the information you put in, and won’t credit you if they find the information to be false. However, if you want to be honest, http://www.fakenamegenerator.com/ creates a false identity with an address, phone number, and zip code that match. This can fool the offer sites into thinking that the information is valid. This may or may not work, but you should always try it first.

4. Create a new identity in Roboform and input the information you retrieved in step 3. Information like the name, income, and other fields besides the address and phone number can all be fake.

5. Download Cookie Cleaner and install. This is optional, but convenient. You will want to clear your cookies and saved form information before each offer. If you don’t, you risk not being credited. http://www.ccleaner.com/

6. Download and install FiZiX. This is a add on for Firefox which automatically clicks through countless pages of ads automatically when it detects them. What would normally take you 10 minutes, will take 40 seconds with this. I’m not positive, but I believe that this is the correct download link. Make sure it updates to 2.3 once you install it.

7. Disable every anti-virus/spyware program that you have. This includes windows firewall. You WILL NOT get viruses from the offer sites, I promise. Disabling these programs ensures that the offer company’s cookies (and whatever else they need to send information to prize rebel) won’t get blocked. After you are done, make sure you re-enable everything.

8. Under options/privacy in firefox, make sure that it is set the accept all cookies and third-party cookies. You will also need to allow pop-ups.

9. Before starting to fill offers, go to www.10minutemail.com (http://www.10minutemail.com/) and grab yourself a temporary email address. As the name implies, it gives you a temporary email address that last 10 minutes. This is extremely useful (and required) because once the offer sites log your email address they won’t credit you again. Just simply get a new email address every 10 minutes and you will be fine.

Tips on how to complete offers:

1. Always use 10minutemail

2. Change your Roboform identity information frequently. After a while the offer sites will stop working if you keep inputting the same address/phone number.

3. Clear your cookies after every offer. However, you may want to wait to be sure you are credited first.

4. Prize rebel gives more points for “hard” offers and less for “easy” ones. Don’t be fooled, because the “hard” offers are often the easiest ones when using FiZiX.

5. Look at the page format of the high point (1.5) offers. You can only be credited 1 or 2 times a day from the same site, and even though they may have different names, they are still using the same format. If the page format where you enter your information looks different from the last offer, you are on a different offer site and will be able to get credited.

6. Always do a little more in the offers than prize rebel tells you too. If prize rebel tells you to go past page 2, then go past page 10.

7. You will be completely assaulted with pop-ups. Keep your fingers on alt + F4 and be ready to pounce.

How to complete high point offers:

First off, completely disregard what prize rebel tells you to do. If you only do what they say, you won’t get credited. Start off filling out your information with Roboform. After that let FiZiX do it’s thing until it ask you whether or not you need to click yes to an offer. Say “yes,” then select a random offer. Once again, use Roboform to complete the sub-offer fully. After that click submit and let FiZiX take over again. After it speeds through 40+ pages it will end up at a screen of “silver” or “platinum” offers. Rather then complete the offers, just click three of them and let all your Firefox tabs sit for a 2-5 minutes. During this time the offer should credit.

Anyway, lets get down to business. So far I've gotten about $90 worth of stuff off of Prize Rebel using FiZiX. After that I hit a brick wall. I can no longer get credited, and the UltraSurf proxy servers (the only proxy I've seen so far that isn't a piece of shit/annoying to use) already have registered accounts on them. Under the proxy settings I found this:

No matter what I do, when I try to enter in custom proxy information for Ultrasurf or firefox's proxy tool, the pages never load. I've tried many different addresses and ports, but nothing ever works. I can't use the proxy severs that Ultrasurf automatically gives me, because the site I'm trying to get into has them blocked. I also have yet to find a proxy other than ultrasurf that doesn't suck REALLY FUCKING HARD. Help please. D:I'm not getting any help from the internet except from here. :|

Welp, I played the crysis demo to test my rig and I got terrible FPS. As in, 17-25fps in firefights terrible. Can my video card seriously not support a 2 year old game with very high settings at 1280x1024? Changing it to high didn't even help much. :smith:
