So my brother started playing the old SNES the other day, and caught up in a wave of nostalgia, I had to go and get an emulator and some roms (because i'm far to cool to use a controller :p)
I instantly went to go find a rom of my all time favorite RPG: secret of mana (http://secretofmana.planets.gamespy.com/)
(E:after spending an hour of my life I'll never get back, I've concluded that SOM3 <<< SOM2 both in that link)
and of course the lovely super mario world (http://forum.snesclassics.com/register.php) (I still love it's cute look :3)
In doing so, I thought this would be a cool topic for a thread.
post links to games (and preferably roms too) of retro games you used to play and still love.
on the legal side, I'll copy some stuff the the above link:
The actual law states that you can only use a ROM according to the following two conditions:
a) You have purchased a copy of the original software, and the rom serves as a 'backup' in case of damage, or because the original is already damaged.
b) If you don't have the orignal software, you can use it, but must remove it from your computer (or whatever medium you have stored it on) within 24 hours.
These laws apply to ALL games, old and new. This is because even if the game is no longer produced for it's original console, the company still own it's copyright, and may even market a replica in the future. (How many Amiga, Atari or C64 games have been re-released on a recent system?)
will that do? anyways, post some damn games :D!!
(re-reading this it sounds abit hype. you'll have to excuse me I was listening to Joe Satriani (http://www.h2vista.net/forums/showthread.php?p=179592#post179592) and all "OMGIREMEMBERTHIS" while I was writing it :awesome:)

They'll probably bitch at you for piracy anyway. Play Super Metroid. And Gradius 3.

I don't own legal copies of any games for the N64/PS1 and older, because I seriously can't find them in my local area. While it is (technically) illegal for me to play Super Mario Bros on my SNES emulator without owning the original cartridge, the feds won't actually care because the systems and the games have not been in production for over 5 years. However, I certainly would be against downloading roms of games for the Xbox 1 or PS2, since those systems are still supported as of now.
However, I do own the legal copies of all my DS games (except Bleach, which is only in Japan) since I have a special Micro SD card adapter (called the R4DS) that lets me pack 15 DS games onto a 1 GB micro SD card. I bought it for convenience, not piracy (who wants to carry 10+ cartridges around...), but sadly many people buy it for the sole purpose of piracy.
Play Kirby - one of my favorite SNES games ever (it's also on some in-flight entertainment). And Super Bonk ain't bad either. Also download Donkey Kong if you can.

The 24 hour rule is a myth that was circulated to make people think its legitimate. Nintendo already bunked it.
Also any copy protection method in place being broken is illegal in the United States.
Its so sad you can be sent to prison for 5 years (Federal Prison) + 125,000$ for holding the shift key. (Shift key prevents autorun -- no autorun, no programs installed without your consent -- no programs installed without your consent -- no DRM. Personally I find that ass backwards since you create a copy protection program for freeware, make it virally fuck people's computers, then sue Symantec and McAfee for 6 digits per user for circumventing it. Sure that shouldn't even cover your legal fees for writing a virus -- but hey whatever)
