Ok, I am working on my second map. The map is a skatepark for warthogs. (Tony Hawg Pro Driver :P) Anyways i am running out of ideas for ramps. Heres all i have so far.

its a little too early... and dont mix Forerunner with Human textures, but overal since you are new to mapping your ramps look good.

a really long half pipe where you have to jump to get the checkpoints. (or even a full pipe :O!)

2 beams abit wider than hog tires to drive down (that'd be hard O_o)

I don't think corkscrews would work in CE.

This should be pretty fun on race.

Hog driving is really fun on natural terrain too, so maybe include dirt sections into the track.

In this case, I can see flat ground working, but get it a good texture.

As for your walls, give them some awesomeifying detail.

Re-do the speed of the warthog, change the physics for god sakes. The warthog flips over like nothing, and supposedly master chief is supposed to weigh around what 5 tons?..

Yeah that makes sense.
And make the land more interesting :]

What the shit?

Master Chief doesn't weigh 5 tons, he weighs half a ton.

It's all from faint memories..
But still, a ½ a ton + what the warthog weighs shouldn't be that easy to flip, imo.

The warthogs physics are fine. If you flip it all the time then you're a shitty driver.

if it aint broke, dont fix it.

Bah, I just don't like the 'feel' of the warthog. It looks like a bulky army vehicle yet it just ...'feels' so weird.

It feels like a bulky army vehicle in H3 and is nowhere near as fun to drive.
Also, what con said.
Change the texture on the floor of the ramps, forerunner plus caution stripes is...:confused2:

Im re texturing the ramps. but i just have the forerunner skin for now...

But i did change the walls to cement. (different cement than the one used in the map).

Earlier i was looking for a wood texture but than i thought...wood holding a warthog???

so then im stuck. Any ideas?

This is a good idea, but make your walls nice, and try not to make it a box map.

Yeah, but with this map you are going to need a lot more of a running start. It doesn't look like enough in your render. I also do believe that you would need to change the physics of the hog. I have tried a race track map before and it would flip over the tiniest bump I went over.

I never figured out the correct physics though. My guess would be more mass, but then that slows it down. Something different perhaps?

Anyway, nice job dude. It's looking like a fun map.:)

get rid of the smoothing on the triangles. also, that's going to give you errors.

the sides of the triangle thingys, are on the same surface as the insides of your walls. fix that.

didnt give me errors because i planned ahead and placed vertices before i made faces (thats why it takes me so long to model)

seriously, make some long banked turns.

also, I think it'd be really cool if you put this in a large arena kind of thing (like trackmania nations) or if you had some kind of obscuring atmosphere so that you can only see a few 100 meters infront of you (and a leap of faith would be awesome too).

is it possible to make a ladder that works for vehicles?

otherwise, I can't see how you'd get that to work ingame.

I'm just wondering: couldn't you set a turbo boost (similar to the H2 Wraith's boost) on a warthog and assign it to the flashlight or crouch key? That might solve some problems with the loop and some other things.

No dice on the loop - I tried it before - lol... the warthog doesn't have the proper traction capabilities in terms of degree to climb... theoretically you might be able to get it going fast enough that it would work. The boost idea might work if your boost tripled the speed or something like that. You would need to give it uber-traction too...

It would be pretty cool if all these ramps were held up by pillars, suspended high in the air and you can drive on them to get to the next ramp, and if you fall off you die :S

Hah, I highly doubt you could get a loop to work unless you add like an invisible wall with some like 0 damage propulsion or something.. But that'd be kinda messy.

I'd like to see you try and make the loop rideable :]

it would work with a script, like in that one sonic map. But then it wouldn't work in multiplayer, which rather defeats the purpose of making a multiplayer map

I made a conveyor belt once, vehicles on top of the moving object wont move with it.

its one of the most basic resulting forces, ofcourse it's got it.

make the warthog go fast enough, and itll work.

the loop probably wont work that well... I've tried steep walls before at a certain steepness the warthog loses all its traction so it can no longer drive it will just slide. and also unless that loop is REALLY smooth its going to flip the hog. and one last thing. when you do this remove the physics points on the gun and stuff to make the hog less top heavy so it wont roll as much. and making hogs go really fast usually has bad results.

You can remove that traction-lost-at-a-certain-steepness in either the Globals or the Hog's .vehicle tag, I forgot which.

How does the hog fishtail then?

anyway, I think a loop could be cool, but your camera would probably go nuts and you'd be pretty much blind.

it doesn't emulate it in a way that you could use it for a loop.

though if jay's suggestion works that shouldn't matter (but will it keep going past 90? :S)

There is a trigger on the loop where the normal hog can reach, then when you hit the trigger it spawns you in a faster hog for like 5 seconds then you change back

Spawn you in a faster hog? As soon as you spawn in that new thing you'll fall down since you'd be NOT accelerating.

Cant he did what CMT did with the couldation (bloodgulch on H2) (sorry for spelling), because i think they made a custom animation or somthing to make the Master Cheif go up the grav list in the base, And it was a smooth animation which synced. You would have to ask Masterz or someone how they did that though.

I don't know how you could get a warthog to boost. I tried it once with my blade hog that me and skyline we're working on a while back and that didn't work.

I'd love to see a motorcycle type of vehicle in this map.

Just make the hog have a regenerating turbo boost linked to the flashilght, and make everything on the loop past 90 degrees made of ice. It might work.
