View Full Version : [HALO 3] Widescreen on a 4:3?

Well, I've been playing hardly any Halo 3 recently, played alot of Halo 1, and decided to go back for a quick game.

OW.

MY BRAIN.

The FOV is TERRIBLE. Then I looked at widescreen pictures and saw that the FOV is greater when at 16:9 so I was wondering.

I have a 4:3 non-hdtv. Is there a way I can play Halo 3 in 16:9 so I can have clean FOV?

If in setup I change from 4:3 to 16:9 it stretches the screen too far to the left and I can't change it. (don't thank me for shitty TV)

Any help?

No duh, but I still wanted to be able to play H3 in 16:9 while I wait.

Bungie addressed this.. well VGA but it still applies to people like yourself..

So we have a bunch of complaints from people using hi-res 4:3 aspect ratio VGA monitors, who find that when they choose a widescreen 1280x1080 resolution, that things stretch. Or that when they choose “normal” aspect ratio, they lose the advantage of a slightly wider field of view found in widescreen TVs. Well, sadly that’s us following the 360 output settings rather than something specific to Halo 3. We can’t override that setting in the game and we can’t guess what it is the user desires. So we have to go with the majority – which is that they desire the entire screen is filled with the correct aspect ratio and isn’t black-barred or windowed. It’s not ideal, but it is one of the drawbacks of trying to play widescreen content on a 4:3 display. So in short, sorry.

You can buy a $20 VGA adapter (or an HDMI-to-DVI adapter) to output the video to a computer LCD monitor (if it is not widescreen it should allow letterboxing).

If only you can play on window mode, you can play in a widescreen resolution =P

I do that playing H2V.

It's far cheaper to buy a widescreen PC monitor, then buy either a VGA or DVI adapter for the X360, than to buy an HDTV. An HDTV is only worth it if you have HD channels to accompany it. Look here:

19" 1440x900 res. The X360 doesn't support 1440x900, but it does support 1280x800 and 1360x768, both of which are widescreen.

I have the VGA adapter and my games look great on my monitor.

Still partial to the 204WT. It runs 1280x720 really well in spite of not actually being native resolution.

But as for the issue at hand? Unfortunately I think its pretty impossible without Bungie's inclusion.
