I downloaded the demo today, but when I tried to change some of the graphical settings, like the painfully low 640xwhatever resolution, the game closes and gives me this: "Directx has encountered an unrecoverable error. Check the readme for possible solutions". I found no readme. I tried updating my DirectX, but that didn't work. Got any suggestions?

What's your video card?

Also I ran the game at 640x480, it worked fine for me.

Seriously, you need to see some of the parts in glorious full detail. Those who have played it know what I mean.

My graphics card can handle much higher resolutions than that. It's a Radeon X1300 model.

Actually, not much higher. I'd say you'd be safe at 1024x768 if you can ever resolve your problem. My old PC uses a Radeon X1600PRO and I play at almost max settings at 1280x1024 with 25-30 FPS, very playable.

Sry, can't help at the moment. If you haven't already looked it up on Google now would be the time.

Update your drivers. There might be something that they're missing that CoD4 needs, and it may just have been released.

I checked google, but so far nothing. I updated my DirectX, but I'll see about those drivers.

EDIT: New drivers had no effect. Decided to google again, found that I'm not the only one with this problem. So far, I haven't found ANY solutions.

It's the logical answer to what you asked. You asked "can someone answer my question?"

Yes, someone in the world can answer your question. You just don't know who to go to.

Is there some cfg file that you can edit to manually change the resolutions?

I uninstalled CoD4 demo already so I can't check =/

Also on the note of getting a 8800GT...8800GT in a bit of a crysis? (http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/article/1866/nvidia-8800gt-crysis/)

Heh... title.
