Will my old computer work good for a DS?

3.0ghz pentium D dual core
1gb ddr2 ram
600 watt power supply
x850xt graphics card on pci X - i dont think that matters.
8 meg internet connection
7200rpm sata HD
Running M$ server 2003 - or 2000 if it will work better.
ECS pf22 extreme MB
It's Nothng special and i'm sure it will run the service but will it run it good?

Specs are more than fine. You might want to be careful of your Internet connection, however. Although you say you have an 8 Mb/s connection, that's only counting your downstream. For a dedicated server, you need a good upstream. Since H2V, I believe, is more client-based and has better netcode, it isn't as demanding as Halo CE, for example, but if you don't want any problems, it's always good to have enough overhead. Heck, if you were to start a file transfer, whether it be an automatic map download or an upload to some file sharing website, the connection would be flooded.

You're more than good enough, but a 2 GB RAM upgrade is recommended. The game will run fine on 1 GB, but 2 GB will make a lot of difference.

He said he wanted to run a dedicated server on the computer, not the game. It should be fine.

Whoops, I misread his post, but yes, everything is still good enough. It's processor and connection that matters anyway.

Thanks guys. I guess i'll dust off my old computer than. Not that its that old but i have not used it in a few months.
Plus i'm building someone a computer and putting the new larger processor in my old computer so i wanted some use out of it.
My old processor was a 3ghz single core HT. lol.

p.s. I have 4gb of ddr2 ram in my gaming computer.

Well johnny, you've fully qualified as a tech-experienced PC gamer. Good job.

3 ghz single core is still sufficient these days unless you wanna run Windows Vista, Aero, and a high-end game all at once. Don't feel bad about it. Some members here would kill to have a 3 Ghz single core as an upgrade.

On my gaming computer i have a 3ghz core 2 duo. Along with the 4gb of ram, 2 radeon 1950 pro's on crossfire, and well alot of money on the rest. I want to upgrade my graphics cards but i dont need to yet. But my old 3ghz single core that i'm pawning off for the dual core did run great.
My whole deal is i dont want to spend all the time setting up the DS if it ran like crap. I'm gonna check my connection and see if its good in and out but i'm sure its gonna run great
