And it's a new GPU from ATI. (Well, more or less just a 55nm die shrink of R600). The Rv670 comes in two flavors, HD 3870 and HD 3850. The reason why it's 38x0 series? Well, mostly marketing, and it supports DX10.1, I'd assume they're going to market the heak out of that, considering the 8800GT isn't able to support it. The HD3870 supports a clock speed of 775mhz and GDDR4 memory clocked at 2.25ghz. The HD3850 has a slightly slower clock speed of ~680 with GDDR3 memory at about 1.8ghz. The 3870 is to be priced around the $200 mark, while the 3850 will be around the $150 mark. Both of these will be launched on the same day as AMD Phenom, and AMD 790FX (AM2+) chipsets. This will, obviously be a big day for AMD... Rumour going around is it will be annouced between the 14-19th of this month. Before the year's end, expect to see R680 which is two Rv670 GPUs on one board. Despite the new "HD 3-series" name, do not expect to see the new GPUs to perform too much better than ATI's current R600, but do expect them to eat up about 100 watts and produce far less noise. (Around ~30db) Here's a preview (http://iax-tech.com/video/3870/38701.htm) of the HD3870.

Time to throw out my x1600xt. It sure in hell should outperform that, I don't care if it doesn't outrun the current HD series.

Wow it does better then the 8800GT in 3dmark06...wonder what the 8800 does better in...

Considering how it is absolutely impossible to buy a fucking 8800 GT, looks like ATI is set to do very well in the high-mid range area (even though parts are performing more like high end stuff xD).

I'm sure Nvidia will conveniently step production of it's G92 based stuff when this is released. At the moment I'm pissed at Nvidia because they are seemingly intentionally holding back shipments of the 8800 GT probably because it performs in the same range as the GTX at half the price and is killing sales of that $500 card. Seems kind of tacky to be honest, and while I generally favor Nvidia cards since I've had shit luck with ATI stuff I'm actually considering an HD3870 as a possible replacement for my little old 7600 GT. That or being a slave and getting a soon-to-be-replaced/updated 8800 GTS SSC or 8800 GTX.

The 3850 is amazing for a 180 dollar card.

The R680 definitely looks cool. I hope by this Christmas I'll be able to get an AMD Phenom or AMD 790FX chipset... speaking of chipsets, check out the new "AMD Overdrive (http://youtube.com/watch?v=i_q_9a4zDps)" for the 790FX. Looks really nice.

Indeed, and I believe they both come with the Black Box, just as the 2900XT did. (fyi, "black box" is basically the orange box)

Don't throw it out, ship it to me :eng101:Lol -- I'd give you my 7900GT...

If it worked without the side of a CoolerMaster Stacker case off and a 16" desktop fan aimed 100% power at it.

Not kidding, if all those things aren't satisfied -- it artifacts the BIOS.

Why don't you RMA the faulty thing then.

Wow, bold move for AMD/ATI. This will at least give the 8800GT some tiny bit of competition in the market even though the 8800GT still owns the HD 3800s in benchmarks. I just feel bad for how much they are going to get owned again by Nvidia once the ge-force 9 series cards are going to get released.

Just a tiny bit?

From what I can see, they're offering something not too far under the power of the 8800 for a fraction of the price. At least in my eyes, it's all about bang for the buck. Not everyone is willing to shell out the bucks for RAW POWAH.

yeah so canadian retailers are starting to piss me off, there all either out of stock on 3870's and a little over priced (30 bucks) or out of stock and 100 dollars overpriced, compared to the US that is, tiger direct.ca is seling 3870's for 305 canadan and newegg is selling them for 219 american which is like 214 canadian

yeah its pretty gay, but its kind of a hassle to do it through newegg, seeing as not only do u have to have an american shipping adress but they wont even accept a payment from canada, not even credit card
