I'm going to go hippie for a moment so bear with me.

Everyday I hear news of something happening to the planet. All of it is because of us, particularly this country, America. We waste so much every day, when people in other countries are lucky enough to have a single pair of clothes and shoes. We take everything our planet has to offer for granted, and sooner or later all our resources are going to run dry, and its gotten me thinking.

Whats going to happen to our Holy Earth when everything is gone.

I call our planet holy not in the sense of religion, but in the sense of creation. This is where we as a species came into existence, where we grew, where we learned; where we evolved from. Our planet has given us so much, but we neglect to the point where it simply can't stand us and some points. We live where the earth allows us, we are at the mercy of nature; but like I said the earth has given us everything. Are we sure we should be worshiping our so called God and not our planet?

I'm in love with our planet very much, just because of the natural wonders it has to give us.

What have you done for Holy Earth recently? What can you do? What can we do to prevent her destruction? We are in the midst of the 6th mass extinction, it's coming soon; we are its target. Must we really perish so she can regain what she has lost? Or can we find a way to coincide with our planet without causing further harm.

Recycled and car pool'd.

Frankly, its not just America, and I hate it when people claim it is. Its like they want to shift the blame to a single entity so its somehow THEIR responsibility to make a change. You can't FORCE your land's people to throw their cans in the correct bin.

Germany does, IMO, care more about recycling though. That is, they put more effort into it.

No it isn't just America, but we are one of the top countries in the world that expel large amounts of garbage and waste when it can be easily recycled.

The problem is that (as with many things) nobody seems to actually care until it's too late.

I personally believe that if Hillary Clinton is elected president, the world will end on December 21st, 2012.

if not, we're going to find some solution for all this earth stuff!

Where's that, looks like that Mandelbrot(?) fractal thingy.

Anyway, what have I done? Well I've tried my best to recycle and throw away trash in the right place (is there any right places anymore?) I try my best to get people I know to stop smoking...Those are small things.

Ironically I have this gay ass fridge that has CFC....pfft

I haven't done a darn thing. It makes me sad. If it were up to me, though, I'd live in a solar powered house, drive an electric car, and pay some Mexicans to plant a tree. Someday.....

We recycle everything here. I can't imagine throwing all that in the garbage. We also compost.

New Zealand :neckbeard:

My family recycles most our waste, and compost green waste.

We recycle everything we can. The Council actually hacked the standard household rubbish bin down by about 25-30% and added a bin for plant matter, too.

I live minutes from the largest and most efficient recycling center, yet I think I waste a lot of stuff. I should recycle more. :(

How can everyone ignore China's role in this? They're buying more gas to fill the larger demand of people driving, their economy needs power, so they build coal plants, et cetera. I mean, sure, America is a big part, but so are a bunch of other places.

My opinion is this: Everyone on Earth is at fault. I guess everyone includes me too.

I generally try to recycle whatever I can, but even then the recycling process isn't exactly the cleanest thing either. If I ever get the money for it I'll probably deck my house out in solar panels and try and draw even in terms of power, a pretty expensive proposition considering a panel that collects a few hundred watts of solar power costs around a grand or 2 and the energy required to make the thing is pretty damn immense in its own right.

I think we are pretty much fucked, because no one is going to do anything about the environment until its too late.

as much as i would like, i dont really have a choice of recycling or not.
our town has demanded Re-cycling bins for at least a decade, yet we havnt had any response.

just little things annoy me the most tho, like when i'm at work. Because we build kitchens, we have to order alot of stuff in.
like Hinges, draw runners, doors ect.
and that all comes in cardboard, yet we just chuck it in the bin.
not to mention all the Off cuts of Partical board which i presusme can just be broken down again, pressed and then sprayed to do exactly the same job.

yet it all just gets chucked out :/

Not really.

Wanna know what the Germans do? The garbage man checks your trashcans for recycling...if you don't recycle they won't pick up your trash.

That easy. Oh and trust me, you will learn to care.

TeeKup

Every single human needs to learn to care. Whether we find new planets or not doesn't matter. We need to protect and preserve this one.

Agreed. I live in a house with a solar water heater, and we have compost, recycle religiously, and conserve water. :P

Dont worry man, in any case this planet will survive wheater or not we pollute it. the only question is, will mankind survive on it and will a potential survival be bearable?

also, its really this whole capitalistic and globalised system that isnt compatible with "nature" and not just the usa or europe or china (wich is actually really lol if someones to blame china cause in the end, most of the western corporations produce their stuff over there. wtf?)
and if you wacthed the news lately, climate change is aleady an unstoppable process. so either you go all noah, buy a bunker somewhere and start some underground gardening and zoos, or enjoy as much nature as you can as long as you can.
you could also dont give a shit at all and just rely on the discovery channel to provide for your near-nature experiences.

but of course the above options only apply if you rather belong to the middle or lower classes of society. im petty damn sure, that even in a 100 years from now, a good and healthy slice of real nature will be available to the rich.:)

Chricton put it pretty nicely,

Earth will survive us, we just might not survive ourselves.

well its not america's fault if thats what your getting at. even if it was, cmon... dont you know how much china is polluting without any concern for the enviromnent? but i agree... the air where i live is sometimes unbreathable. however it has gotten better over time, in the 70's here, schools were canceled a lot because of poor air quality. however pollution doesnt end there. not only polution of the earth, air and sea, but of our bodies as well. some stats for you.

women take birth control for sexies right? well not all of the hormones in those pills are used, so theyre just released from the bodies when girls pee. what happens then? it gets flushed down the toilet, and ends up back in our water supply, where EVERYONE drinks it. more estrogen is put into male bodies, causing less... development, and when young girls drink it, they develop earlier. of course birth control isnt all to blame for our abuse of hormones but it contributes.

USE A CONDOM DAMMIT! PILLS WILL EVENTUALLY DESTROY MANKIND!

and that is how the world will end. ESTRO-ED to death

sounds kinda like were all screwed right? well maybe theres hope

I hate drinking water. It's tasteless (until you put it in some sort of container, which makes it even worse). I actually drink less than a cup every 3 days, I drink milk instead.
