So, I ordered my new 8800GT last friday, and it's in the mail. Any suggestions on switching from ATI to nVidia hardware and drivers? I'm kind of at a loss as to how to perform this switch without a hitch (lolrhyme).

First, uninstall the Catylist drivers normally. Then run this (http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?det=745) once with the filter set to ATI CCC and ATI. Then go ahead and install the Nvidia drivers.
Driver Cleaner may stop working as soon as it hits some registry files (at least it does in vista). I don't know if it just stops working or something but I usually end it and don't have any problems.

You'll need to run drivercleaner in windows safemode to remove everything.

I don't know how to start safemode, and is it really necessary to use it?

It would be a good idea.
To start in safe mode, press F8 after the BIOS, on the part where it asks you to select which OS to boot from (if you have more than one installed). If you don't, just press F8 before that loading thing appears and after you see the BIOS.

I just went ahead and did it without safe mode. The first time I put it in, I got a looong beep from my warning speaker. Then I realized I forgot to hook it up to power :P
So I dug the adapter out of the box, connected the two power inputs, and plugged it into the card. Works great. I updated the drivers, and I'm getting better performance than I ever have. I still need to get a new motherboard, processor and more RAM, though, to keep up with it. I can't get a playable framerate in Crysis with all settings on Very High.
