View Full Version : Something I've been noticing recently

I think this is an important heads up to some members of this site. Recently, I've seen that the quality of criticism has dropped to a new low. I won't name anybody, but there are some members that are forgetting that the whole point of criticism on this website is to be constructive and helpful. Somehow, some members have gotten the idea that they can post whatever kind of bullshit "opinion" they want and get away with it. Meanwhile, the poster of the work is left with a thread full of immature comments and no real help. At no time is this ever acceptable, if you don't have something constructive to say, then don't post. It's really simple. Call it bandwagoning, ass-kissing, or whatever you want, but I see it as certain senior members setting a poor example, and the newer members adopting this behavior. Those who ignore good criticism should thereby be ignored by us, not flamed, as it sets a bad example. We have to remember that newer members might consider this acceptable behavior, even if you didn't really mean what you said. Before you post your next opinion, make sure your setting a good example for others by avoiding blunt or nonconstructive comments.

Yeah, me in particular.
This also borders the line with the "pretend gayness" going on around here.
It. Needs. To. Stop.

FR, id rather not see you try and be punctual by saying "it. needs. to. stop.", when you still havent stopped yourself. I think you're taking the 'lolguise i can use internet slang' too heavily, and the sarcasm is just making it impossible to ever take you seriously. I, as a fellow 'member', want to see some maturing on your part.

When I did it I tried to keep it to a mature level.
Obviously not.
Everybody thinks that "gays" title was to call everybody gay. No, it was just to noobspeak the title up, but apparently everybody thinks that its not.
And of course, I always try to improve, but when ever I try to get the SMALLEST of criticism, it turns into the "pretend gayness" or "stupid criticism" that we get now.

No, that's not how we saw it at all. We saw it as a failed attempt to be funny or to "noobspeak" it up. We don't want noobspeak on these forums.

That's what this thread's for :)

And if it's a failed attempt to be funny? Okay, it failed, -rep, move on.

There is no fight. There's never supposed to be a fight. If you want to spread your opinion, then you can do so maturely and constructively in the future.

Rain, this topic wasn't created for you in particular. Connor was talking to me about this last night. He's perfectly right, and if we can make the correct changes then the site will become a better place.

In my opinion, people need to stop being stupid scene/meme/trend/b/ject- kids. It's annoying as hell, especially when the vast majority of the posts are "lul" or ":awesome:" or "lol gay joke here/my cock" crap.

Precisely! Some people just post for the hell of it and check their User CP everyday hoping that they got +Rep for some smart ass post they made. When people learn that you earn rep, that is when most stupid remarks will stop. The other set of stupid posts are made from people who are just too damned ignorant to keep their mouths shut.

this been going on for a long time.
personally, my criticism is i say what i think is wrong, maybe add a suggestion for improvement, and leave it at that. i just say stuff as-is, without sugarcoating. blunt, and to the point.
people know that.
some people don't like it, but i don't really care.
most people also know that I never try to insult someone by being blunt.
granted, some of the new people here dont know the tweek, and take A MASSIVE overdose of OMG YOU FLAMED ME, and we know those stories.
i catch myself goig over the line every now and then, but when i do, i usually contact that person, and give him a more extensive review via a PM.
not because i care, but because i'm not a bad guy.
unless they're jerks, then i just hope they shape up or get out.
i would like to point to these two posts.
http://www.h2vista.net/forums/showpost.php?p=190616&postcount=2755
and then this post
http://www.h2vista.net/forums/showpost.php?p=190693&postcount=2757
those post both crit the same thing.
now there's a reason the 2nd one got an infraction.
i forgot the rest i wanted to type here.

Yeah, I sorta blew up over that, my bad.
It just seems like skilled guy says something, someone says something similar but throws in some homophobia and takes out the useful information...pissed me off tbh.
I don't really care if someone says that this-or-that fails, I'm independent and skilled enough to make a change without it being spoon fed to me what I should do. However, there are people who aren't like that and we should try and recognize that.
Although I do agree with Tweek:

Not only that, but not everyone realizes those bolded points. They perceive that as acceptable behavior and do it themselves. I've seen it after your posts on multiple occasions.
edit: I'm not saying being right to the point isn't good forum behavior, just that the newer members have no idea how to do it themselves without being constructive.

Yeah, a lot you've been doing about it. Please, the next time you open your mouth and insert your foot, be sure you do it when you at least have some credibility behind you. Please return to Gearbox.
EDIT: The problem lies with only a few. What good does any of this do if they just perceive the forum as a place to act retarded and believe that they're funny, especially if you don't call them out?

QFT.
Yeah, this problem's getting really bad.
What I think happened is, noobs got hyped up over Halo 3, so they pre-ordered it, and went to check out the first two. I'm going to concentrate on the first one here, since that's the primary game around these parts. These noobs discovered a site called Halomaps, where they signed up on the forums and created utter chaos.
The people at Halomaps saw this, and, since Dennis failed to try to control the problem, they fled to a forum where they knew the noobs wouldn't dare to touch, a little forum called H2Vista.
This was both good and bad, as it created the sudden influx of noobs, but it also brought in some of the better newbies, like Massacre. Don't look at me, I came in BEFORE this all happened.
So yeah, that's what happened.

every single person in this forum is guilty of creating pointless posts. anyone who says "it needs to stop" has a point, but it starts with them. anyone who blames someone else for this, and never accepts that they have done it in the past, is being blind or hypocritical. there are a few members who i honestly don't think i could find a worthless post by, and just as many who i honestly cant find a NOT worthless post by. i too, have created spam plenty. frankly people, thats how forums work, no matter how many admins/mods/users want to think otherwise. also, people are more prone to see only the bad, and forget the good, so before you rant and flame... think of the positives.
EDIT: also i'd like to point out, that when a person begins a post with "IAWTP" "QFT" "FTFY" or any other random unintelligible abbreviations, it really kills the post for me. it puts a completely different kind of tone into the post for me, and i usually will just skip reading the post. also... i want to point out that my cousin poured soda into my keyboard, (possibly hoping to grow an alphabet tree) and now the space bar and all the keys around T barely work, so if i pos somehintha looks lik his, gimme a break please :D

I don't mind pointless posts as long as they're not every other post and don't drag the topic totally off track. Otherwise that's where I get annoyed. Posts such as "I <3 you" by "sam" are what I find annoying and a waste of my time.

So it seems as though this thread is directed at Off-Topic, since, you know, that's where it's been posted.
What the fuck, guys? Historically, for every forum ever, off-topic sections have been places for shits, giggles, and retardity. By posting this here and targeting this off-topic section, you are potentially trying to change a known material law of the internet.
Now, I agree, these dumb posts outside of Off-Topic need to stop; they are mostly pointless and stupid attacks against people (which sometimes might have made a mistake, but that is no reason to become raging angry at them).
If you REALLY want to try and channel this shitstorm, petition for a stupid-shit subforum in Off-Topic. That way all the stupid shit possible can be posted, and the rest of the forums will (hopefully) be cleared of it.
