I'll leave it to snaf or tweek to tell you whats wrong with it, as I'm not very good at finding faults in guns. But what I can tell you is, come on dude! Render the thing. Press F9.... Screen shots are fugly.

Agreed, renders are way better.

Not really... an orange gun with a default material on a black background with default lighting. I'll pass.

If you render anything, make it a clay render.

it's not good. i can tell by the surfaces.

As in, you can clearly see the poly's/faces?

SnaFuBAR
November 26th, 2007, 02:14 PM
as in it's extremely inaccurate, poor surfaces, non-planars, and polygon distribution.

as in... delete and start new.

F9 ... F9!

Also, no its not good.
It needs work, and personally i don't know where you used 1,800 in a model like that, try to find some more 'images' of the spiker, theres some obvious 'problems/differences' in your model and need work like i said.

Keep working at it.

If anything its a big improvement over his last spiker, trust me I've seen it ingame, sorry paint, but even you have to admit that that model was worthless

Did you box model that?

Roostervier
November 26th, 2007, 04:59 PM
I lol'd when I saw that the handle/grip was beveled out.

Tbh, the model needs to be restarted from scratch. Try to use bevel less. Extrude, however, is necessary when creating new edges. What I should say is, try to stay away from extrude and bevel while in face selection, unless you really know what you are doing. And, tbh, it looks like you don't. So, try to take the time to actually make it good, not get it done.

Actually i used Plane modeling for this spiker, but my last one in Genesis Beta, was box modeled...

Hey Snaf is there anything i could do to make this more Spiker-ish?

Good start, needs a good few more hours work though.

Smooth out the handle and stuff to make it more rounded, too boxy as of now.

I would delete it and start over. There's so many things wrong that it'd be faster to just redo it. You really need to pay attention to your references too, or get better and more clearer ones, because it looks very inaccurate.

I think you're lying to be perfectly honest. The entire grip looks like you just extruded it from the main body, then extruded the sides then proceeded to Bevel the crap out of everything.

Dude, i made this spiker with Plane modeling, it's actually like 12 different peices just attched. Btw what are Nonplanars?

sorry if i seem like a n00b, i'm just getting into modeling well....

Nonplanar means a surface that is not flat (planar). For example:

http://caad.arch.ethz.ch/info/maya/manual/UserGuide/ModelingPoly/images/PolyBasics.fm.anc33.gif

The green polygons are nonplanar because one of their vertices is lower than the others. it's important to keep your faces planar if they're supposed to be, or else the surface won't look flat.

Well his model isn't that bad, it just needs a little tune up.

You should see CMT's spiker its pretty good

Its not good, but its definitely an improvement I'd say.

It would be a lot better with less non-planars like they all said, as for accuracy I wouldn't know don't play halo 3 and haven't looked at pictures of them, although it does look off to me.

EDIT: the trigger is fail, u made a circle/cylinder and attached it to the gun, and the handle needs to be made differently, you should also render it, its easier to see stuff...

consider suicide sir.

i have seen cmt's model in 3ds max and it makes me want to chop up infants and burn their entrails.

also, model is bad. not "isn't that bad", it's just bad.

Sorry, but thats pretty bad. How did you plane model that? You should have got way better results than that...

Im actually modelling the spiker right now.
