View Full Version : Firefox bookmarks all gone

I had booted from Windows XP, and I was working on some research when there was a Windows error (dunno what it was, but everyone gets these errors that force them to restart) and I had to restart my computer. When I opened up Firefox to continue my stuff, my bookmarks were totally wiped out. My browsing history and autocomplete search forms were still intact though.

I went to this site:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Lost_bookmarks#Restoring_bookmarks_from_backup

But it doesn't help as I can't find a bookmarks backup folder in the Firefox folder. I then booted into Windows Vista on my other hard drive and transferred the bookmarks from there, but those are my old ones - new school-related bookmarks added after June were not recovered so I don't have everything.

Any suggestions?

you may have started firefox with a different profile.

make a new firefox shortcut and add -ProfileManager to it.

(the same way youd add -console to a halo shortcut)

Really simple fix:

XP

1. Go to bookmarks, organize bookmarks, file, import and browse here specifically:

C:\Documents and Settings\{user name}\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\j6bq8zyf.default\boo kmarkbackups\

2. Choose the html file with the latest date and hope that it backed up your most recent bookmarks.

3. Click ok and enjoy all of your last backed up bookmarks.

Vista

1. 1. Go to bookmarks, organize bookmarks, file, import and browse here specifically:

C:\Users\{user name}\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\hjw esyrk.default\bookmarkbackups\

2. Choose the html file with the latest date and hope that it backed up your most recent bookmarks.

3. Click ok and enjoy all of your last backed up bookmarks.

I am afraid I found no such folder. There is only one user account on my desktop computer for both my OS's. And I don't think I've made multiple Firefox profiles - how do I even do that?

Thanks for the help anyway.

I don't, and I've been using XP for 2 years D:

Also, in before someone says IE is better.

Well, by an error I mean that my computer either froze up or became uber-laggy, forcing me to restart "improperly" - that means that I hit the reset button on my case.

IE is better

for porn, cause then you can delete the browsing history and your girlfriend will never know...And you won't lose your firefox cookies

Or find out that the actual act of sex is better then watching it happen without you?

Firefox and porn works better then IE+porn, but it's just harder to get rid of it sometimes.

Anyway, I would've suggest doing a system restore but I don't know, that's only IF you want.

Off topic much?

All you can really do now is try to remember what all your bookmarks were:rolleyes:

Thanks for your input guys. I couldn't get back my bookmarks, but I managed to configure Firefox to make daily backups and place them into the folders that Amit pointed out. And fortunately, most of the new bookmarks that I lost were no longer important (school work). All bookmarks that were made before June were easily recovered since back then they were copied to my other hard drive, which runs Windows Vista.
