View Full Version : So it's snowing

Yes, it's snowing heavily outside as I type up this thread. It's the weekend, so I'm having snowball fights and building snow art - Halo 3 will have to wait lol (I just got it since my birthday is in 2 days, but I guess it'll be left unopened).

But in Vancouver, snow is more trouble than it's worth, especially on weekdays. The damned salt trucks don't operate long enough and only work on the main roads, without bothering to clear up the residential small roads, but since Canada is so socialist, I can't really blame them. All I can say is, thank god for all-weather tires and Quattro all-wheel drive (my mom has a 2006 Audi A6), because it's too easy to lose traction on the snow-covered roads.

Still, I love snow, and it's the main thing that keeps me from moving back to California. Next weekend I might go up to Whistler, which is some kind of ski resort at a nearby mountain.

So, is it snowing heavily for anyone else here? I bet it's especially bad in Boston (where my sister is studying) and Toronto.

I'm living north of Conscars on Vancouver Island in sunny Campbell River. We started getting snow last weekend, but it soon melted the following day. However, it started again this morning, and the temperature hasn't gone above -4 Celsius (that's in the upper 20s of Fahrenheit for the rest o' ya). It started snowing about 6am this morning and as of now (6:35pm PST) we have almost 22 inches of fine powder snow. The problem with powder is that it makes horrible snowballs. I wish I had a set of X-country skis right now.

According to the weather channels, apparently Campbell R has the most snow on the island! YAY!

Driving to class on Monday won't be fun in a 2WD mini-van...

It's taunting us here. The forecast called for (and has for the past few days) lots of snow, but instead it's hovering just above freezing and we're getting scattered bits of sleet. Lame.

Germany....no snow but we have warnings for tormented weather in about 2-3 hours.

Good thing is that America has to pay Africa/Asia now to keep their emissions up. I guess that will help your currency immensely but at least it has a good side to it.

Global Warming. More water evaporates but it doesn't freeze.

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2003/11/031106052121.htm

Global warming can cause increased snowfalls depending on where you live. The Great Lakes area has experienced an constant increase in snowfall since 1930.

Syracuse, NY, one of the snowiest cities in the U.S., experienced four of its largest snowfalls on record in the 1990s – the warmest decade in the 20th century, as a result of global warming.
“Recent increases in the water temperature of the Great Lakes are consistent with global warming,” said Burnett. “Such increases widen the gap between water temperature and air temperature – the ideal condition for snowfall.”

Oh and it was snowing in PA today, switched to freezing rain.

I could say the same thing to you about your weather :P Snow was fun in highschool, but now it's nothing but problems. I need to get a new job, that's pretty hard to do if I can't even drive to the place. There's the risk of wrecking my car, not even by my fault but because of another driver losing control. Then there's the salt on the roads that eats away at my already slightly rusted carframe. I can't hang out with my friends either, they live too far to walk, and fuck walking in the amount of snow we have here anyways. It's cold, it's wet, and I look like a fool if I play in it because I'm too old for it now. I'm not in school so I can't get a "snow day". A snow day now just means no work and no money. A couple years ago some kids threw a rock-snowball through our main window, which is huge and expensive to replace. And I don't doubt the idiots will be back causing other kinds of trouble this year because we've had 3 windows broken, along with some equipment/things we keep outside. The corner I live on has had more car accidents then the total years my family has been living, along with very many close calls of people almost hitting our vehicles. My car also happens to have to be parked in the space right by the road. Also, there's construction going on outside of my house that cannot be completed until the snow is gone, so it's just one big mess of shit as soon as you leave my driveway. So yeah, WINTER CAN LICK MY FUCKING BALLS

My college canceled classes today due to the weather; the snow on the roads has been compacted down so much that it's more slippery than wet ice. Plus the fact that I can't get my pimpin' 4X4 out of the driveway (for "pimpin' 4X4", see lame RWD Chevy Astro Van that sucks in the bad weather). I do have studded snow tires, but there's just not enough clearance or enough torque to get me out of the driveway, and I'll be damned if I'm gonna spend three hours digging it out only to get it to the road and slide into the ditch.

It started raining here last night, but I don't know if it's gonna thaw things out enough to make the college re-open tomorrow. Oh well, I guess I can spend another day doing useless crap :)

I dug my van out of the snow today. Good thing I can drive to class tomorrow 'cause I don't know if I could stand getting a ride to school with relatives again. Imagine listening to "it's the fourth of December today which means we have twenty-six days until Christmas" and other statements of equal intelligence for a whole hour considering that the trip only takes 20 minutes normally.

Sorry, went on a brief rant there. Just happy to have my van outta the snow.

Anyways, at present it is raining with no signs of stopping any time soon. The snow is almost gone off all the roads... in some ways I miss the snow now that it's almost gone, but as a person who greatly values having his own vehicle (even if it drives like crap in the snow), I'm glad to see it go.

I got almost 30 cm of snow and school gets delayed for 2 hours. Sure they plowed the roads to be walkable but there was ice everywhere. Almost half the people I know tripped on the way there, and almost everyone tripped on the ice patches just outside the school. :gonk:

Fucking retard school administrators....

Sunday, we're going to get another snow storm, and another foot of snow. I like snow because a lot of snow/hail = no school.

It's about friggin time!

what, your cat found the window?

Anyways, it's getting back down towards freezing now. If there's any clouds that come my way it shall snow outside the Eastman bubble.

I hate missing school, cause I'll get the homework I have to both the homework I've missed and the homework I have to do the next day. Plus there hasn't been a snow day in my area in like, a long time.

:eek:Snowboarding!!! What's wrong with you!?

Actually, I just prefer skiing, that's all. Also, most snowboarders that I know suck and just slide down the hill on their ass and sweep all the snow away.

One of my best friends died skiing. :(

Since then, I've liked snow, but I'll never snowboard or ski.
