Initialization Failed Error

[PGA360]

Hello,
I am trying to run Halo2 on Windows Vista Ultimate.
When i click the game's icon to run it, the window automatically states it is 'Not Responding' and i get an error message along the lines of:
'Initialization Failed'

I have included 2 screenshots.
of the error message & of my dx diagnosis.

hope someone can help.
[i currently have the latest graphics drivers]
and gameadvisor.futuremark.com (http://www.h2vista.net/forums/gameadvisor.futuremark.com) states my computer CAN run Halo 2.

Hope ive given enough information :)

Well have you tried re-installing the game?

Besides that, I would 'run as admin'. There is an option for this in the properties screen.

Double besides that, this program is a HOG. Double your memory to 2GB, and honestly I'm not sure about that video card you have. My Halo2 box says "nVidia 6100, ATI X700 or above". So you may want to check in to those.

Ok, let me explain:

1. Don't trust those online game advisor things. They aren't programmed to recognize every video card out there. Gamesadvisor says that my computer can't run Splinter Cell Chaos Theory because it doesn't know that my Geforce 7600 GT is a later model that was produced after the game was made. Guess what? I can run Chaos Theory at full settings with over 60 fps. Similarly, it says my friend's computer can run Command & Conquer 3, and it turns out that he can't.

2. Your Intel GMA 950 cannot, I repeat CANNOT, even run Halo 2. If someone can prove me wrong, I will behead myself and give you my head on a silver platter. It can run Half-Life 2 because Half-Life 2 is very well optimized and is more CPU dependent, but I'm sure the game looks ugly and barely runs. Anyway any video card made by Intel is shit and is unsuitable for high-end PC gaming.

3. You'll need to buy a real video card from ATI or Nvidia to even run Halo 2 at all. If you have a laptop, you're out of luck.

4. All this "running as admin" shit and other stuff is as effective as slapping a faulty TV to make it work. My neighbor shares his computer with his parents, and he has no access to the admin thing, yet he can play all his games.

Here's another common error. You can run it at the full specs that the game allows. I have yet to see High Dynamic Range lighting even displaying at all on a GMA 950.

You need to have the DirectX9 hardware shader model 2.0 to run Halo 2 in the first place. The Intel GMA 950 sorta has that, but it lacks Hardware T&L which is why H2V won't run. You may have the DirectX10 driver installed, but you don't have DirectX10.

who says he doesn't have a desktop computer even though he's using a laptop? Many people own both a laptop and a desktop. And just FYI, the Geforce 5500 was for AGP. He obviously owns an old desktop with an AGP slot, and it's probably less powerful than his laptop in terms of CPU, etc which is why his laptop is his primary gaming machine.

Also the MXM thing is better interpreted as having the graphics card be replaceable rather than actually upgradeable. In theory, you can take out an MXM laptop card and slap in another one, but each MXM size is not compatible with slots for a different size (i.e. Type 3 can't go into Type 2 and vice versa). Choices are extremely limited as a result of this size thing. I could take out my laptop's Geforce Go 6600 and stick in a 7600 (should work, just need drivers) but it's not worth the hassle. PGA, don't worry about this part, as it's irrelevant for your laptop.

And yes, the Asus XG Station can connect to a laptop (must have ExpressCard 54 - so it won't work with Macbooks which only have ExpressCard 34). It is an enclosure that lets you connect 16x PCI-express video cards to a laptop to enhance graphics power. However, it's not worth it. First of all, its architecture prevents it from displaying the enhanced image on the internal laptop screen - you must hook up an external monitor. Second of all, ExpressCard transfer rate is so slow that this device is the equivalent of taking your nice 16x PCI-express video card and sticking it in a 1x-speed slot. Still faster than integrated shit, but still underpowered. You will actually be able to run games, but there is a poor performance-vs-price factor. It's far more worth it to just get another laptop with a real internal video card (like mine).

MSI has a similar product called the Luxium. Few details have been released. Neither product has gone retail, but I'd recommend against them.
