Okay I have no idea why this is happening now but every time someone uses the cordless phone (5.8 Ghz) my wireless connection gets knocked down. Its really irritating seeing as I have a sister who uses the phone all the time and theres a slew of telemarketers.

Any ideas on what it could be?

First off is your router and adapter using a 5.8 ghz frequency or 2.4ghz?

Well, have you tried moving the phone as far as way from the router (and the router as far as way?)

Well as far as my parents would let me. Even then its still halfway across the house and a floor down.

If you have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse you could plug in and use, try setting the laptop up on a shelf, or some sweetspot you can find. I had mine hung on a wall for awhile with significant improvement

Yeah, it's your router. It's not only 2.4 GHz, but probably also 5.8, because I looked at the box of our new router one time and it said it had wireless "g" and "b" (I think it was b) and it said the frequencies next to the wireless types, and so one of those must be a 5.8 GHz frequency. If you still have your box from your router (prob not) see what kinds of wireless internet it broadcasts, if not, try looking online.

Or it could be coincidence, your internet just happens to get slower randomly whenever your mom gets on the phone, and the 2 occurences have nothing to do with each other. :)

just slip a longass ethernet cable under the rugs when your parents are sleeping

Edit: ^But drilling through the walls is troublesome :<

Nope my router only uses 802.11g and b, both 2.4. Also I've discovered it only happens when the phone rings not when we actually dial someone.

Maybe I should just beg my parents for cable....
