Oh. My. God.
Is this what I motherfucking think it is? This wide-nose motherfucker? Fuck yes, it is, that is an AC Cobra son. What's that bonnet got under it? A MANLY V8 FROM MANLY AMERICA? But what's that you say? It's British too.
Environment? Fuck that. This is a thread for cars that are epic and not just ones you own because that is a jerk thing to do. When there's a fuel cell car or hybrid that can go naught-60 in 4 seconds, then I will be all Fuck Yes.
Let's get this shit rolling you homps.

This is a Lotus Exige S. Yes, it is a manly fucker. It is made of plastic and can outmaneuver a gunship. Top Gear called it uncool after calling it magnificent? Fuck them.

If there are existing car threads, then why the hell are you making yet another thread dedicated to fucking cars?
Also, that first car is shit looking. I mean really, I've had better runs come out prettier than that (but not as red :-3). Out with the old and in with the new. Like that 2nd one.

I ah, don't really like cars. The idea of hurtling myself around in a plastic box at 60 miles per hour just doesn't appeal to me. And I don't find driving all that fun or great :|

Are you serious? The performance figures on it are outstanding. It's beating Ferrari's and other really expensive super cars around the Nurburgring. I guarantee you if the ZR1 was made by Ferrari or Lamborghini or any other Italian super car company it would cost easily over $600k.

Manual transmission is an option, not standard. What do you mean by largest engine? Certainly not the largest engine Dodge has in one of their cars.
When I said it's just plain slow, I meant it. Around a track, on a drag strip, pretty much anywhere. The acceleration is by no means great, especially considering how powerful the engine is. 0-60 in 5 seconds as a result of 425 horsepower? What the fuck? Not to mention it has no option to turn off traction control, so no donuts or any fun stuff like that. I will admit it is a mean looking machine that can growl, but that's about it. Thanks for -repping me for no reason.
E: Now that I think about it, why on earth would you put traction control in a muscle car?

I - repped you because speed doesn't mean anything unless you live near the autobahn (sp?). I'd rather drive around a Challenger that looks, sounds, and feels mean rather than driving around a car that just goes really fast. Especially since the average person is never going to actually drive it really really fast all the time due to speed limits.
I'm talking about the largest and most powerful engine available for the Challenger, the 6.1 Hemi V8, in manual. It's an option yes, but it's well worth it, and it greatly increases the "fun" of the car.
E: You're arguing is pointless, you can't deny that it's an awesome all around car. Obviously we have different opinions on what makes a great car, and nothing either of us says will change the others mind. Especially since you have some kind of vendetta against me, from what I can tell.

So you -repped me because you don't think speed is anything in a car and it's all about looks and sound? Wow. Not to mention I guarantee you almost any really fast car will also sound exceptional. Speed means tons in a car, especially in a good one. I mean of course you're not going to be doing anywhere near top speed, but there's still accelerating. If you look on Youtube you will see tons of people with fast cars speeding, and some even getting pulled over. What do you think people buy fast cars for, comfort and luxury?
This still doesn't bring up many other bad things about the car, such as handling and breaking and all that jazz. Once again, the only thing the car has going for it are looks and sound, the rest is garbage.
E: Freelancer your opinion on what makes a great car is garbage handling and speed, but it looks and sounds nice. I can deny it's an awesome car, because its not awesome all around. Unless by all around you mean looks and sound, then by all means it is an awesome car.

Well, it's the best car in this thread... Maybe you should read my edited point.
The handling and acceleration are amazing in the manual transmission Challengers. I know this because I've driven one, and my dad has driven me in one (he used to own an old Challenger and he says it feels "close enough" to the old one he used to own, considering all the changes).

Definately not the best in the thread...not by a long shot. A manual transmission doesn't affect the handling, and by that fact its still only 0-60 in 5 seconds. Just because it's the fastest car you've driven doesn't mean it's fast.

Definately not the best in the thread...not by a long shot. A manual transmission doesn't affect the handling, and by that fact its still only 0-60 in 5 seconds. Just because it's the fastest car you've driven doesn't mean it's fast.
It is the best, you didn't read my edit about opinions apparently. I've held the stick at Mach 1 with a Canadian CF-18B pilot before in an airshow demonstration (Cadets rule), so no, it's not the fastest thing I've driven.
http://img374.imageshack.us/img374/2443/cf18bpv1.jpg
Maximum speed: Mach 1.8 (1,127 mph, 1,814 km/h)
Obviously this isn't a car but it emphasizes my point. If I owned this CF-18B and a Challenger and I was legally allowed to use both whenever the hell I wanted on any road I wanted (flying very low to the road I guess, for the CF-18), but still had to obey the posted speed limits... Obviously I'd use the Challenger, even though the CF-18 is way cooler than it in every way (it's cooler than any car made to this day, in every single way).
Now, before you counter argue that the Challenger is still slow, and not the best car in this thread, go back and read my edit on opinions.

Shows the great standards of the Canadian Air Force! Actually now that I think about it I highly doubt they would let you drive the aircraft, let alone at Mach 1. I don't know about Canada, but in the USA you cannot go over or at Mach 1 over land. Not to mention there's the potential that some crazy gets in the aircraft and flies it, and then drives it into the ground.

Well first of all I'm not sure what the speed limits are over there, but I guarantee you couldn't fly that at those speeds. Second of all, since you'd rather drive a Dodge Challenger than a fighter jet, I'm just going to ignore you because you're obviously crazy. Thinking that it's cooler than any other car in every single way also makes me think you must be crazy.

We were at Mach 1 for a bit but I wasn't flying at this point, I was simply allowed to bank us a couple degrees left or right about half way through the flight (I had my civilian pilots license already). The CF-18B has an option to lock-out the controls of the "trainee" section of the cockpit, so if anything did go wrong, the pilot just had to hit a button.

The CF-18B can angle itself upwards (almost vertical) and "hover" along at very low speeds (under 50km/h). That's nothing *too young to understand*. Being realistic and posting "practical cars" is just uncool hence the thread title. That means 95% of the cars posted is now null. What would be the point of this thread then? We understand practicality but this is more what we think is COOL rather than PRACTICAL.

That's not even anything close to what you described. Near vertical? My ass. Almost any (new) fighter jet can do that, all you do is put the flaps down all the way, point at that 45 degree angle, and give the engine some power.

You don't seem to understand what I'm saying. Practicality is ridiculous in a muscle (or super) car, as Richard Hammond says "super cars are meant to be bonkers." Even though the Challenger is a muscle car, you get my point. By the way, opinions are meant to be argued. What else are you supposed to argue, facts?

Lexus LS 600hL
It's a hybrid long-wheelbase version of my car, costing about 60% more, too. Actually wanted to buy this model but the price was too steep.
Yeah the exterior and interior are standard Lexus fare, but what shines is the stuff UNDER THE HOOD.
That's right, Toyota actually makes a hybrid engine system than will interest performance-oriented car buyers.
It's a 5.0L V8 mated to electric motors with a combined output of 438 hp.
That's basically a V12 engine but with V6 fuel economy, and an SULEV emissions rating from the EPA. Real V12 engines (i.e. on BMW 7-series) get abysmal mileage and barely make LEV ratings. Totally trashes my LS460. Oh yeah, four-wheel drive too.
The fuel savings is a bit redundant considering the car's price but the emissions rating is definitely outstanding - no other sedan of this size has gone beyond ULEV-II. In fact the outstanding emissions rating has prompted numerous heads of state to acquire the vehicle - Hong Kong, Iceland, Monaco, Norway, and of course Japan itself all use the Lexus LS600hL as an official state car.
Who knew a car with the same fundamental powertrain as the Toyota Prius could be fun to drive?
As for supercars:
http://www.best-trade-car.com/blogpics/nissan-gtr.jpg
Nissan GT-R, R35 platform. With a U.S. price of around $70k, it's not cheap but it offers the performance of a Lamborghini for a quarter of the price.
There's room for a V8, even a V10, under the hood, but Nissan makes do with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 with 480 hp. 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds. Head-turning styling.
Yeah, it's unbelievable, the displacement seems "low" but the output is phenomenal.
The interior has some state-of-the-art technology too, including a usable performance computer, hard drive-based cutting edge GPS that can also store ripped music, etc.
I've never really cared for those European exotic sports cars like Lamborghini and Ferrari because engine performance doesn't interest me much. But the GT-R is the first sports car to pique my curiosity.
http://reviews.carreview.com/files/2007/10/2008_subaru_impreza_wrx_sti.jpg
My parents actually rented the current-gen Subaru Impreza hatchback once (not the WRX, sadly) in Hong Kong. With four-wheel-drive and turbocharged four-cylinder engines, the Impreza, especially the WRX/Sti/GT variants, is a bargain basement racer, a true rally car.
If you think Japanese economy cars are boring to drive, go test drive an Impreza at the local Subaru dealer and think again.
Finally:
http://automobiles.honda.com/images/2008/fcx-clarity/exterior-gallery/_L4A5119a_lg.jpg
Like the Prius it competes with, its styling is hit-or-miss, but study some physics and you'll understand why the Honda Insight is shaped like this to achieve its awesome mileage. Expect some great cabin tech too. My sister drives a 2005 Toyota Prius loaded with all the options and wants to upgrade to this.
http://www.alternativefuel-cars.com/images/s400-hybrid-full2.jpg
Similar to the Lexus LS600hL, it is a gas-electric version of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Badged as an S400h, it has a 3.5L V6 mated to electric motors to produce near-V8 power while getting 30 mpg city.
Wait...that's just another hybrid. Oh no! It's the first hybrid to use a lithium-ion battery which gets better range than the nickel hydride ones used in current hybrids like the Prius.
The major advantage the S400 has over the Lexus LS hybrid is trunk space. The LS600hL's battery is a huge one placed in the trunk and cuts the trunk space in half - another major reason why my dad didn't buy it. The S400h places a smaller but longer-lasting battery in the engine compartment itself and so the trunk is unaffected.

Fuel economy is not cool and manly.
Just FYI, Xetsuei, Lexus and Mercedes hybrids are engineered for performance, not economy. Many reviewers have stated that the fuel savings are immediately cancelled out by the premium the hybrid versions command over the standard V6/V8 versions.
Just because these Lexus hybrids use CVTs and the same powertrain design as the Toyota Prius, doesn't mean they can't interest performance enthusiasts. Take a look at the Lexus GS450h, for instance. Its hybrid output is 339 hp, equivalent to a V8 engine. Yes there are fuel savings but the selling point is the boosted performance and lowered emissions. Even Toyota hybrids, like the Highlander Hybrid, offer solid power compared to the seemingly boring Prius.

Rob Oplawar
January 8th, 2009, 11:25 PM
Well I mean that's just it, SUVs are shit as "tough" vehicles! They are just big cars classified as trucks; they are not trucks and do not work well as trucks, they're just really big fat bloated cars that were so big and fat and bloated that there is actually a law against making them so they call them trucks instead. The only "need" for an SUV is the "need" to have a big, admittedly extremely comfortable, car. It's like owning a fancy gas grill and warming it up every morning to make your toast.
That does it. I hate SUVs, and I say let the big three burn in hell for them.
e: By the way, my old Subaru was 4x4, and got about 17 miles per gallon. Of course, that was when I had to cross 15 miles of twisty snowy mountain roads to get to work. Like you said, if you need it. Hourly wages for UAW workers at GM factories are about equal to those paid by Toyota Motor Corp. at its older U.S. factories, according to the companies. GM says the average UAW laborer makes $29.78 per hour, while Toyota says it pays about $30 per hour. But the unionized factories have far higher benefit costs.
GM says its total hourly labor costs are now $69, including wages, pensions and health care for active workers, plus the pension and health care costs of more than 432,000 retirees and spouses. Toyota says its total costs are around $48. The Japanese automaker has far fewer retirees and its pension and health care benefits are not as rich as those paid to UAW workers.
Guess I was mistaken, the total hourly labor costs are around $70 dollars from GM. I'm not sure on the other two though, can't seem to find any articles. My dad was the one who told me.

Maybe they did, but certainly not anymore. In times like this, they'll have no choice but to accept having their salaries slashed by 1/4 or even 1/3 if it means keeping their jobs. Unions are uber-weak during depressions - if they decide that they want pay raises and threaten strikes, the management simply looks for unemployed people of similar skill, who are most likely willing to accept the job even if the pay isn't high.
The higher-level workers of GM/Ford/Chrysler definitely earned waaay too much though. It's rumoured that they even had the cheek to show up in chauffeured limos and private jets when meeting with the government over the bailout issue.

This is the outgoing E65/E66 model BMW 7-series. The 2009 model (F01/F02) is nice...except for the oversized front grille which TOTALLY spoils the appearance. The outgoing one is much better in terms of styling than the upcoming one IMO.
North American models have either a 4.8L V8 (replaced the previous 4.4L V8) or a 6.0L V12.
In Europe and Asia, smaller engines are offered, which make the vehicle 1. more affordable and 2. more fuel-efficient. The engine choices are a 3.0L straight-six (which powers my grandfather's 7-series), a 3.6L straight-six (dropped after 2005), and a 4.0L V8, in addition to the big V8s/V12s in the North American models.

BMW M5 ;)
Looks like another "boring luxury saloon" but it packs a 5.0L V10 engine that pushes it to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. It also happens to have the most spacious interior out of all the supercars, and one of the few V10-engined vehicles to carry a 5-digit price tag.
Word is that in the Southeast Asian market, wannabe showoffs buy the 520i (regular 5-series with 2.0L straight-four, also the most affordable of the range) and rebadge it to an M5 (they even use stickers to replicate the side engine vents). Not cool, man.

Not sure if this is classified as a ricer, but:
http://media.nextautos.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/11/new-subaru-impreza-wrx-sti-japan-spec.jpg
Subaru Impreza WRX Sti. (I once rented the regular Impreza btw)
Its 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine is turbocharged (probably makes Xet happy) to produce around 305 horsepower, a long shot from all those high-performance German cars, but still big enough to brag about.
At around the low-$30k it definitely commands a premium over the regular Impreza, but it's still a bargain racing car.
Oh yeah, it has four-wheel-drive too for stability. The Impreza's been a popular car of choice for those dirt-road racing shows, it's like the 21st century version of the 1983 Audi Quattro:
http://www.channel4.com/4car/media/classics/A/audi/03-large/audi-quattro-1988.jpg
Finally, here's the car that's sure to revamp Hyundai's image:
http://www.orbitcast.com/archives/hyundai-genesis-1.jpg
Hyundai Genesis luxury car, rear-wheel drive, can have either a 3.8L V6 (290 hp) or a 4.6L V8 (375 hp). It comes up to par with all the German saloons it competes with (and also Lexus), then beats them all with a substantially lower price. In Canada the V6 starts at $37995 and includes a long list of standard equipment that would normally be options on similar cars in that price range.
And here's the Genesis coupe, also RWD:
http://cache.jalopnik.com/assets/resources/2008/05/Hyundai_Genesis_Coupe_SoCalSpy.jpg
Hyundai actually took performance very seriously with both the sedan and coupe. Don't be fooled by the badge. I want the sedan, btw.

I'm sorry Buckshot but most of the cars you post I think are boring; they're the kind of cars that you'd see on a day to day basis.
eh, Lexus hybrids aren't that common. The RX400h crossover SUV is a common sight in Canada due to its justified price and utility, but not the hybrid sedans as they are quite a bit more expensive than the RX400h, way beyond my budget. I see plenty of regular Lexuses, yes, but I rarely see the performance hybrids.
The Hyundai Genesis...not sure about the day-to-day basis thing but I haven't seen a single one in Vancouver so far.
Audi Quattro...I don't know, it could have been a common sight back in the 1980's, now it's a highly coveted "classic car."
The Impreza...definitely a day-to-day sight, but you have to note: which Impreza are you seeing, exactly? Most of the Imprezas I see on the roads are the regular versions, I rarely see the WRX Sti with the turbocharged engine.
Oh yeah if there's any vintage car I want, it's this:

lol, which one was it? The Lexus LS600hL? It's a rare sight here in Vancouver, too, but the nonhybrid (mine) is fairly common, especially since Toyota/Lexus dealers here always offer excellent deals (I believe about $5000 was slashed off the MSRP for me) and make it too easy to buy on credit (until this economic crisis that is).
Or you might be talking about the BMW M5...as with the Lexus, the regular 5-series is a very common sight too but the M5 definitely isn't.

Yay, we agree on something for once, haha awesomes.
As for your local American sports cars (Corvette Z06 is quite nice, don't really like the Dodge Challenger), one thing I've noticed is that they haven't been produced for countries where the cars have the steering on the right. Catering to those markets could really increase sales. Lamborghini and Ferrari produce all their models in both LHD and RHD I believe, which is a good strategy. Nissan, which is Japanese, does have a few rather interesting models that sadly haven't got LHD versions, they certainly might be a hit in America.

BMW M3 sedan, with a turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 producing over 410 hp. The side view's styling cue is the engine vent near the front, a standard feature on all M variants of BMW's vehicles.
Typically the M3 is associated with either the coupe or the beautiful convertible, but BMW apparently realized that at least some prospective M3 buyers needed four doors (for kids), so they finally made a sedan version of the M3. Despite being heavier than the coupe (the most popular version) it performs just as well. Did I mention a DCT as well?

holy fuck you serious? I love the A8 although I've never owned one. I know Audis have great anti-theft systems but a determined expert can bypass just about anything. Chances are, if you don't get your car back it's either going to be chopped up for parts or smuggled into Russia (St Petersburg houses quite a large number of stolen luxury vehicles from all over the world).
My Lexus LS460 short base was scratched once on the door, but nothing else (insurance covered it) since then. Anyway it is harder to steal because my dad got a shop to retrofit a special security system that requires you to enter a security code on the nav touchscreen before starting the engine (the key must still be present of course). And if someone does break the code the car can be tracked via satellite the moment the theft is reported to any Toyota or Lexus agency.

Lol, just because it doesn't have power steering doesn't mean it can't turn. All power steering does is make it easier to turn. It is also one of the safest cars in the world (some fag crashed into the side of one with three passengers in it, all three walked out of the crash unharmed). Yeah, they are some sporty looking vehicles.
Personally I'm not a fan of this 1970s styling but yeah it is ferocious. Right now there's only one vintage vehicle that I would race to get my hands on (if I had $$$) - the 1964 Aston Martin DB5. I want a right-hand-drive version too, just to preserve the British MI6 agent feel, screw Canadian traffic directionality I'd bring it back here anyways.

Jaguar XF 4.2 supercharged (high performance version of the range).
Unfortunately Jaguar's sales ain't hot in Vancouver, there are lots of nice cars here but few of them are Jaguars. In fact a single model of Lexus (RX crossover, known as Toyota Harrier in most right-hand-drive markets) has outsold the entire Jaguar lineup in terms of global figures.

I don't have my own car, both my parents work 7 days a week, so they can't drive me out when I want to go buy school supplies or visit friends or catch a movie with some pals. Hence, I use THESE two cars to do those things...totally manly, yo.
Ok bad joke, back on topic:
http://www.carzi.com/wp-content/uploads/tesla_roadster_1.jpg
Tesla Roadster. Yes it is based off a Lotus. This car doesn't even use gas - it's a pure electric sports car.
Now electric motors may not have a top speed as high as that of a gas engine, but one thing's unrivaled: ACCELERATION (due to significantly less resistive force when spinning an electric motor vs internal combustion in an engine).
This isn't actually a car, but rather an engine used in most of the BMW lineup:
http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/32471265-2-300-DT5.gif
It's a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine producing 300 hp. With that, who needs a V8? Any BMW models sporting this engine will have the name *35i/*35xi, with * representing the model (e.g. 3-series, 5-series), and x referring to the all-wheel-drive variants.

http://z.about.com/d/classiccars/1/0/S/1/-/-/2008-Lotus-Exige-S.gif
And also, V8s are the most manly car engine. V8 > all. Nearly every single muscle car on the planet uses some sort of V8. Plus they don't need turbos to get their power.

It's a 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-class final design. Given the popularity of the current-gen E-Class in Vancouver (I've seen a few of the AMG versions too), I'd expect this to be a hit in my city when it comes out.
In the North American market the base engine will be a 3.5L V6 - if that isn't manly enough for you, AMG can slap in a supercharged 6.2L V8 for you. In the European and Asian markets, the base engine will be a turbocharged 1.8-liter straight-four (due to the fact that in Southeast Asian markets, there is a hefty road tax on vehicles with engines exceeding 3000cc or 3500cc, depending on country).
Btw Xet, you should omit that rule about how "engine displacement must be 4.0L and above..." that rule's stupid, plenty of smaller engines can achieve phenomenal horsepower these days. Just look at the Nissan GTR's 3.8L engine with a 480 hp output - that exceeds some 6.0L V12s these days. Or BMW's twin-turbo 3.0L straight-six with 300 hp. Or Subaru's 305-hp turbocharged 2.5L straight-four.

._. Christ sake Buckshot. This is the third time and I don't know how to make it any clearer, run of the mill every day cars you see tons of everyday isn't "not for whimps" or hardly even "the new cool thing". Posting every single car you see every single day of the week gets annoying and boring.
And no, just because the Japanese found out that if you make an engine rev to 10,000RPM it increases the horsepower, doesn't mean it's manly. I might actually change it to 4.5 L or above. Pray I don't change it any further.
Ok I'm sorry for that Star Wars thing, but seriously. What would you rather hear, some 3.8 L engine revved until it's about to explode or an Aston Martin DBS V12 which has the power naturally. Horsepower doesn't really matter, it's the manliness of the engine, and the sound of it. Same with any other small engine that's revved extremely high to up the horsepower.

Well, I've sat in a friend's dad's BMW 535xi before, and its twin-turbo 300hp 3.0L straight-six is definitely no slouch, plus its engine is fairly silent until it goes onto the highway and hits 90 km/h, whereupon manly engine sounds come in.
The thing is, cars like the Mercedes E-Class and BMW 5-series may be "run of the mill everyday cars" to you, but exactly WHICH versions are the run of the mill ones? They are the boring six-cylinder-engine versions. So for example, the BMW 528/535i is a common sight in Vancouver, but definitely not the high-performance M5 with its ultra-manly 5.0L V10 engine. Same thing goes for the Benz - the E350 is frequently seen but not the E63 AMG with its supercharged V8.

Mercedes SLR McLaren with a supercharged 5.4L V8. Its front is a bit Batmobile-ish (not talking about the tanklike Tumbler from Chris Nolan's movies).
http://img524.imageshack.us/img524/3103/audi20s520hr201eg7.jpg
Audi S5 with a charged 4.2L V8 (if they make an RS5 they'll probably tune up the engine to the point it sounds like a GTR engine, similar to the RS4). Strangely, I've seen more Audi R8s than S5s or even A5s in Vancouver, even though the R8 is considerably more expensive and supposed to be the exotic one.

Now this isn't really a car, but an engine:
http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/32514483-2-300-DT5.gif
This is AMG's 6.2L supercharged V8, hand built and signed by the engineer responsible. It is available in all of the Mercedes lineup, excluding the wimpy FWD A-class and B-class. With a manly roar and gas guzzler tax and LEV rating, this is sure to satisfy all those people who "buy it just because they CAN."
And here's Toyota's first entry into the actual high-performance market:
http://i.i.com.com/cnwk.1d/sc/33352234-2-300-DT5.jpg
389 horsepower 5.0L V8, currently used in the Lexus IS-F and the Lexus LS600hL. The "F" at the end of the Lexus IS model with this engine means a lot - this is meant to compete with BMW M3, Audi S4, etc. Toyota might make a GS-F with a V10 engine soon (not a hybrid don't worry). Right now, the somewhat high-performance Lexuses are hybrids, but that's changed with this 389-hp V8 engine.

That's all you're going to need it for, getting to an accident quickly.
*Of course they can't outrun it, but it's not like the police are going to try and bump them or stop them with the lambo, it' too expensive.
*How do you think police stopped people who were faster then them before? Shear numbers and things like spike strips. Most police cars now a days have steel bumpers on them.
*It's not like you can arrest someone with it, it's only got two seats.
*Fuel consumption. They'll be filling that up several times a day.
*And really, it won't get that much faster to the scene of a crime/accident then a regular police car unless you're really flooring it and testing the limits of the car.
*Why use such expensive cars? It's going to cost more to the police (or should I say tax payers) then it will help.
Seriously, complete waste of money. I would be pissed knowing that my tax dollars went to a fund for buying Lamborghinis (that can only be used for one purpose) for the police.

From wikipedia:
In December 2004, two Gallardos were donated to the Italian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italy) police (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polizia_di_Stato) in honour of the force's 152nd anniversary, one came from Automobili Lamborghini SpA while a second was donated by an independent organization.
The Gallardo Police Cars are used by the traffic police (Polizia Stradale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polizia_Stradale)) during emergencies and alarm situations on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autostrada_A3_%28Italy%29) highway, also under the powers of the special safety operative which is already being employed along that tract of highway and above all, for the transport of body organs destined for transplantation.
On October 2008, a private ceremony was held at the Viminale Palace where Automobili Lamborghini S.p.A. donated the newest Gallardo, the LP560-4 ,to the head of the Italian State Police, Prefect Antonio Manganelli. The new Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4 Polizia will replace its predecessor to fulfill roles with the Lazio Highway Police Department.[13] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lamborghini_Gallardo#cite_note-12)
Yellow Gallardos have been "temporary" police cars for the Metropolitan Police (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Police_Service) in London (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London), one in 2005 and one in 2006, for specific publicity events. The 2006 vehicle was seen at the start of the 2006 Gumball Rally (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gumball_3000). Both vehicles were lent by Lamborghini London and were fitted with yellow and blue Battenburg markings (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battenburg_markings), police logos and a small blue lightbar.
The German police use more practical but still overpowered and luxurious cars though. I've seen Autobahn police using the BMW M5, but most police cars in Germany are regular BMW 5-series, Mercedes E-Class, or Audi A6. Some districts use the smaller 3-series/C-Class/A4.

Xet, the lambo has state of the art video recording/recognition. It records everything in the front and back. It uses number plate recognition to see if the vehicle is stolen. They can use it to track the speeds of cars and record it, and then arrest the perp at a later date and prove it. You may be thinking now "yah but most police cars have that" and you'd be right. But if your chasing a Ferrari, if your in the bog standard cop car you dont stand a chance therefore you cant get a true reading of their speed.
They are used on the fastest roads on Italy, so there will be super cars who want to speed like a maniac, this lambo tackles that problem.
It can also house donated organs, so having a lambo saves minutes getting it from hospital to hospital which can save lives.
Its only a limited supply and its a donation form lambo to the services for what they have done in the past.

2)Oh, so you can drive along with the crazy maniacs. Fun.
