View Full Version : Maya visual glitch I'm getting.

I've been working on a project for my 3D foundations class and on my character's left hand and forearm (they are separate objects than the rest of the body for easy rigging reasons) have the "show icon in center of face" thing on, whereas no other parts do. I've tried to disable it, but can't figure it out. Several other students were also puzzled with it as well (including my roommate who has already had 2 years of Maya schooling.)

I know you guys have weird bouts of knowledge... anyone else encounter this?

Yes, I know the model is trash, I had 500 quads to work with, what do you expect? Please just ignore how horrible the model is.

The character was created on Maya 8.5. The error is there in 8.5, I took that screenshot in Maya 2008. ... AKA the error occurs in both versions... on PC and Mac.

Model is actually rather good for what you're doing. The DIGM program on my campus makes use of a similar model. As for the error, I wouldn't call it that as Maya does whatever it's told to.

Try copying the mesh and pasting it to a separate object.

I know it's not really an "error", it's just... not what I want to have happening so... it's an error to me :D

Anyhow, your idea got me thinking...

I have just been fucking around with preferences windows and whatnot to try to disable it... but... that hasn't proven any luck to me.

I'm just gunna copy/flip the right arm/hand...

Since it's all rigged and whatnot I didn't really want to have to take the model apart.... but.... eh not too much of a pain.

The model itself is 500 quads. The professor assigned each group to a 6 second animation of something. Each person has to create 2 props (300-500 polys) and a character (300-500 polys)

We also have to come up with an environment (1500-300 quads) and we can't have more than 30K polys in the scene all together.

It's a really neat way to learn modeling. You have to make every poly count when you're only allowed 500 lol

Limiting polies is a great way on forcing people to focus on the foundations of what they're trying to learn instead of having them focus on making something that's simply visually appealing. Upload your render when you're done.

Haha, Full Sail 3DF class, hope you're having fun in there.

As for the problem try going into object mode, then go to face mode and select everything on the model. Next select an area outside of the character (space around it) then go back to object mode on the character.

... Do you go to Full Sail?

Did my suggestion work for you?

P.S. Good luck in MCR ;)

No, your suggestion didn't work. I really don't care about it anymore though. It doesn't really bother me too much so.. *shrug* it's all good.

So... you did go to Full Sail?
