So about two hours ago there was an earthquake measuring 6.8 ~50km off the coast of my city. Camera fell on the floor (but it's sweet as), aftermath in my room, (desk had nothing on it before it ;)) :

Monitor decided to fall down behind my desk, but that's fine too. The floor of the pantry was covered in pasta sauce/spices/cans/everything too :x. A few buildings have lost their roofs/collapsed in the CBD, and apparently there's been no serious injuries.

Didn't your mom ever tell you to clean your room:rolleyes:.
That really sucks though. Hope the monitor didn't break.

FTFY?
The shelf could still fall on him even though it is standing up. Although, it doesn't look very large at all.

Glad you're ok. Nice stitching. Did you do that by hand or did you use an app? Also, I'd think about getting a specialist to come out and check the house for structural problems if I were you. The city was blasting rock with small amounts of explosive to lay new pipe under my street. It was literally itsy bitsy tiny explosives, but it was enough to make a couple millimeter thick crack in the upper room of my house.

Shit happens. In Cali, we either get two second quakes that we don't even realize are earthquakes until we make a decision that it actually was an earthquake, or we get 6.0 and up quakes.

There's plaster cracks down some of the corners around the house, along with paint flaked off the roof where it meets the walls. Pretty directional though, paintings facing north or east were really bung, but ones facing east or west haven't moved at all.
Most of the town is still closed to everyone as structural engineers go and check it out. A few buildings in the CBD have had their roof collapse, along with the facades of a couple of others (one collapsed backwards into a bookstore :x) and awnings onto the pavement.

Only one casualty thankfully - an elderly woman suffered a heart attack during the quake. Security camera footage: http://tvnz.co.nz/, click the play button on the image at the top left (link for pictures too).
I went with my dad to the school he's the principal of to check if everything was all good, and man there was a ton of traffic - more than the is in the middle of the day usually. Phone lines were jammed, the only place lit was a big ship in port, a local supermarket, the only place with a working backup generator. Must've been pretty close to causing some serious damage around the place, was pretty violent.

I always wondered what the worst cleanup job after an earthquake would be...
Now we know!

Have to say though - stuff owning a bar or liquor store, they're all trashed. A winery has apparently lost several hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of wine too X(. My parents were just at a bar celebrating the end of the school year and luckily decided to leave early :x. Every bodies car alarms were going off too, could hear all the emergency services' sirens blazing up and down the streets. A couple of areas situated by the beach were evacuated too, thinking there was a tsunami coming.
