I think I may have finally found the monitor for my xbox 360 gaming experience (lawl) and was wondering if anyone here owns one or has anything to say about the product.

I think I may have finally found my monitor.

What I'm really looking for is 360 response time etc etc.

Oh and if I use an hdmi input from my 360 can I somehow get audio-out from teh monitor to plug into my stereo?

It does 1080p 1:1 over component and VGA for x360, has some imput lag, and it doesn't go into standby when HDMI is used to connect to a PC via DVI->HDMI adapter...

There's a thread on Hardforum about it if you have some time to read through it (http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1226712)

That's about it.

If you're using the 360 monitor cable, it only goes to 720p. I don't know about HDMI, though.

EDIT: Looks like the response time on that monitor is only 8ms. I'd go for something with a better response time.

What?

8ms response time is fine.

8ms may lead to some ghosting when the action starts to pick up.

JDMFSeanP

What exactly is ghosting?

I have a 37" Westinghouse with 8ms response time and I get no ghosting what so ever.

What exactly is ghosting?Ghosting is when the previous frame displayed on the screen can still be seen for a split second.

What?

8ms response time is fine.

Agreed. Either that or people just say it ghosts because there's something better out. I remember the last time I went LCD shopping 8ms was the flagship speed. It was touted as having no ghosting and perfect for gaming.

Well, I'm using this now:
http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX17409(ME).aspx (http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX17409%28ME%29.aspx)
5ms, so far it's GREAT. No ghosting or anything. However, I doubt that 8ms will let you down. There are 2ms 24" LCD's now for crying out loud.

As for your audio problem, get a monster cable or something that, just get one that takes component (RCA) audio (the red and white ones) and converts it to mini-jack or something. If your stereo has the component inputs, just get an extension...

He said he can only spend around $260 on a monitor. $400 is pushing it to the limit

I know, I was just stating what I had. Not what he should get ;).

No I can spend as much as I want lawl wtf.

I'll go read up on that samsung and compare, gonna go check out a few stores this week to look at them up close.

I'd be using HDMI on the monitor, sooooo......for audio.....

And yeah my stereo has component inputs.

What about it? I've seen it lower...

I was looking at response time and 4000:1 contrast ratio.

InnerGoat

Its just an overdriven panel with dynamic contrast. Not much different then the other 24" besides the westy having a better screen.

I saw your thread on hardforum.

Anyways, what matters to you for gaming is input lag, not pixel response time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi2OE6hSh00

I'm almost certain the Sceptre is faster when it comes to this.

JDMFSeanP
January 2nd, 2008, 12:20 AM
Would a DVI to HDMI conversion slow this down? And it says with the Sceptre that its washed out colorwise without DCR on it give it tis 4000:1 contrast ratio, but that slows it down or something.

InnerGoat if you have aim or msn could you pm me it? Your intelligent on the matter and it would be so much easier than posting back and forth.

InnerGoat
January 2nd, 2008, 12:59 AM
The DVI to HDMI conversion that you'd be doing is just a cable with different plugs so it wouldn't change anything. You'd keep DCR off anyways because any extra processing the display does on the image can add more delay...

Hmm, thank you for all of the info.

One question, which would you suggest?

InnerGoat
January 2nd, 2008, 01:29 AM
Honestly, that's a hard question. :p

Each display has its strong and weak points. The Westy has a better panel with better viewing angles and a mess of inputs, while the Sceptre should be faster.

I'm not sure how bad the input lag on the Westy is though. It could be very slight, and if that's the case i'd choose that. Still, you should wait a bit and see if anything interesting pops up in your thread on hardforum.

Alright, I've been looking around and it honestly seems plenty of people have chosen the west for gaming on consoles.

How to wait for it to be put on sale at bestbuy....

InnerGoat
January 2nd, 2008, 01:52 AM
It was on sale at Bestbuy less than a month ago, for a long time as well. :(

Newegg has it for 399, but it was even less when it was on sale before Christmas :/

JDMFSeanP
January 2nd, 2008, 02:03 AM
Yeah I know, thats where I heard about people getting it for so cheap.

I don't want to buy a monitor really off of Newegg, I'd rather get it from somewhere with easy returns.

InnerGoat
January 2nd, 2008, 02:20 AM
Good choice. Newegg's return policy on monitors really blows.

ExAm
January 2nd, 2008, 03:41 AM
No refunds? Yeah. It isn't fair. If I'm not satisfied with the product, I want to get another one, I don't want to replace it with one of the same.

InnerGoat
January 2nd, 2008, 12:27 PM
Uh, its more for the fact that you could get a display with 7 dead pixels and be out of luck. B&M stores will take it back.

Flyboy
January 2nd, 2008, 04:01 PM
Go get the 42 inch.

JDMFSeanP
January 2nd, 2008, 05:16 PM
Because thats logical and cost effective.

Flyboy

Actually yes.
