My friend had the star destroyer and it got smashed by his cat jumping on it.
As much as I love legos. Something always bumps into the shelf and knocks the whole thing over and I loose the 1 of a kind piece that comes in the set that I don't have.
Plus legos are too over priced for my taste.

Very Nice! I love Legos, although I unfortunately don't have Star Wars lego toys. I do have every Batman lego toy though, and I still have my Lego Police Car from 1996 (I lost the lego cop though :( it's somewhere in Singapore). And I still have an old 1980's lego set, the kind that's meant to build any kind of model limited only be imagination and number of pieces.
Too bad I don't have time, otherwise I'd gladly help with the assembly. As for the fragility of Legos, just put the models on a sturdy shelf and problem solved.
Me want the X-wing fighter.

2006 I got the Star Destroyer for Christmas.
I superglued it, and it STILL came apart.
Mom says I made a couple design flaws, but I followed the instructions EXACTLY.
Nevertheless, I have not received the Falcon, probably due to the 500,000+ (I'm serious here) Legos sitting in my tub. Actually, my TUBS. They couldn't all fit in one.
But I have sets from the 1990's Lego city and Aqua Raiders, to the 2001 Life on Mars, to the Original Bionicles, to the first editions of the X-Wing, Y-Wing, A-Wing, TIE Fighter, Naboo Starfighter, ARC-170 Starfighter, every single one of the 9V trains (They're slowly being phased out by the less-chance-of-electrocution RC Trains), Lego Racers (I still have my original cars from the game on Lego.com), and more I can't even think of.
I have Lego Island 1 and 2 for the PC, both 100% complete, Lego Racers 1 and 2 (For the PS1 and PS2, respectively) which is 100% complete, LEGOLAND (PC), also 100% complete, Lego Star Wars 1 and 2 for the PS2, and The Complete Saga for the 360 (Just got that for Christmas, haven't beaten it yet, been doing other things).
I'm 16, and I've gotten Legos from my parents since I was in Kindergarten, when I was 5.

@ LL, my Millennium Falcon is about 5 times that size, I couldn't make a stop animation like that. I am however going to make a stop animation.
Cortexian
December 17th, 2010, 04:59 AM
Reviving this... Lets say I stalled on the creation of this for two and a half years, no stop animation of the build because of said stall... Anyhow, I pulled the structure (about 1/3 of the entire work) out of storage and all the pieces and finished her up in the time it took to watch all six Star Wars films (had them playing for motivation). So lets assume it took me approximately 20 hours build time to finish this, I'm getting slow in my old age...

Finally I can get 5,195 LEGO pieces out of storage and into display haha. Now I need to bust open my UCE Death Star II (http://starwars.lego.com/en-us/Holobrick/details/10143.aspx?ctxt=themes) which is sitting unopened in the closet. That's only 3,349 pieces so it shouldn't take nearly as long! I'm pretty sure my grandparents bought me the new Imperial Shuttle (http://shop.lego.com/product/?p=10212&icmp=SHHomeT2_10212) with 2,503 pieces for Christmas as well, they know I love Star Wars LEGO... If that's the case I'll build it before the Death Star since it's to scale with the Falcon (and mini-figs) I just completed, they will look BA standing next to each other. If I can find somewhere large enough and safe enough to display them both....

The only thing that has ever really bugged my about the Falcon is that the Cockpit is in such an odd area. Imagine the shields failed and it got shot off. The entire ship would be fucked. Not to mention Han and Chewie would be dead :(
Cortexian
December 17th, 2010, 05:27 PM
Yea I know, I mean, at least one of the Corellian ships with an outboard cockpit was able to rotate it from side to side and up and down during flight/combat. The ship basically flew "around" the cockpit and it was harder/more distracting to get a shot at the cockpit... I thought it was the YT-2400 Outrider (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/YT-2400_light_freighter) but I seem to be wrong.

Cortexian
December 18th, 2010, 07:44 PM
Ultimate Collector sets are designed to be displayed once completed, not destroyed and built into random things. I have tubs of random LEGO for that... As a matter of fact a lot of my older Star Wars sets like the original X-Wing, AT-ST, Slave-1, etc are in tubs now...
Cagerrin
December 18th, 2010, 07:57 PM
UCS sets are designed as an easy way to get a FUCKTON of panels. Displaying Lego sets is just completely against the whole point of Lego. (non-set stuff I can understand, but if you want a Falcon to display you're probably better off buying model kits.)
Warsaw
December 18th, 2010, 08:07 PM
Hey now. I built a Battlezone tank (NSDF Grizzly) when I was in 4th grade (that was ten years ago). I've since demolished every single set I've ever built. That tank? It's still intact.
Cagerrin
December 18th, 2010, 08:13 PM
That was kinda my point. I can understand displaying stuff you've designed yourself(even if the subject matter isn't something you created, like Battlezone), but displaying something that someone else designed is silly.
Cortexian
December 18th, 2010, 09:48 PM
I would never demolish any of these UCS sets, there's way to much time and effort put into building them, and they look fucking awesome already. Plus I already have a ton of custom made stuff, but since it's all technicolor it's not worth displaying haha.
Plus, UCS sets are all hollow so the majority of pieces are the detail pieces and flat panels... Pretty useless stuff when designing your own things imo.
Cagerrin
December 18th, 2010, 10:09 PM
That all depends on how you build. Panels and "detail pieces" are quite useful. Take into consideration, for example, that the Falcon has 59 "boat tiles (http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=2654)". I doubt you could get that many from any other set, and that's only one type of part. I for one tend to use a lot (http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/Cagerrin/MOCs/Contrail/contrail_01.png) of boat tiles.

When I custom build I build everything solid, none of my custom models have open interior space unless it's supposed to be there, for example, cargo and launch bays obviously need to be open... However all the other things I build, which are usually some type of space craft, have solid interiors for stability. That said, my use of panel pieces is generally limited to horizontal stabilization and building platforms.

Did Luke and Vader come with it? That's a pretty cool way to date the shuttle haha

Yea they did! Unfortunately the silver handles chipped while I was inserting the red light rod. Oh well I've got like a million more saber handles.
What you all don't realize is, is that now I can recreate the scene just before the attack on the Death Star II!!!

I also have a huge jet, submarine, and carrier in my closet along with 10 large tubs of just loose legos all in my closet.

Yea, the main Martian base with the air pressure tubes were a pretty neat idea. Even though I'm not a big fan of "specialty" LEGO pieces like that.

I have that tube set somewhere, its just boxed up. I believe thats where the red and blue mechs came from.

James May is awesome, this MUST have been what they were talking about that one episode where he wasn't there and the other two belittled him about having to go away and build child's toys.
