It's an old link, but they're still going with it. I'll find a newer link in a bit.

Discuss. I'd be interesting to see how this plays out, whether it works in the USA, and whether opponents of universal healthcare will be swayed if it succeeds. I'm all for this type of thing, with a few alterations that would help it to stay away from issues like the dentist shortage in the UK.

I guess I should have named the topic differently, because it's already active, according to the site. The latest federal ruling just allows them to enforce the law that allows them to get funding for it.

EDIT: Latest info

So while the US is starting to realize its current healthcare system isnt really the chocolate on the cookie, over here in ol europe it seems to be pretty popular as folks keep trying to pass laws through their parlament that would pave the way to establish the same, rotten system.

i might move to cuba if i ever get sick :/

Your stupid, move to Canada.

Oh the irony.

I don't really have a problem of the healthcare in the UK, with the exception of some crappy staff.
All in all, that seems like a decent system =\

Your stupid, move to Canada.Same laws are trying to pass here as well... they keep getting defeated but still... people in power are given money by big businesses wanting us to be 2-tiered or worse healthcare... because sick people can be worth a lot of money.

1. Chewy's right, we do pay for it. We also get what we pay for, shit. At least in the USA you can get surgery at a decent time without 6 month waiting lists when doctors only give you 3 to live.

2.
Canadian Health Care is still better, and more free. You can't get any more free than free itself.

Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about. Yes a "free" health care is nice in UK, I do prefer it than US (although I havent used the US) the fact you could end up paying a CRAP load for one thing is totally ridiculous, I feel they should have some cover like UK, but not exactly the same, because the English health care system sucks right now.

Back to JunkfoodMan's comment, we pay enough taxes already in UK, we have to pay a health tax too. We DO NOT get a good enough service for our money. I dont want to have to wait 2 fucking years on a waiting list to get surgery that will save my life (not emergency type, but like cancer) most people DIE before they can get surgery. Waiting lists are too long, yes we are sorta short staffed. We do have the option of going "Private" which means paying a ton of money to people to get it fast, my dad did to save his life.

You go into hospital, and can come out EVEN worse, this norwalk virus is giving people serious problems, go in with a broken leg? Come out even worse. Its not even the first time we've had the virus, whats the cause? hygiene, yes in a BLOODY hospital.

Inpatient service needs a MASSIVE reform.

ER however, is pretty good, I love knowing if I break my arm, I can walk into a hospital without having to show any proof of insurance and get help when I need it the most.

Death is.
Not if theres a hitman involved :D

No, prices are just a quantification of how significant something is to a person.

Since everything has some significance, our monetary system is simply a natural evolution of our basic human thoughts and experiences.
