Lol, good. Idiots. My friend has Comcast and his internet is going down all the time, and his dad is a complete nerd and would know if it was something wrong with his router or something.

I won't say "owned" until the court says "pay up". A step in the right direction, for sure.

IS this because they are allowing things like torrents, or not allowing? Im out of it today.NOT allowing. They were BLOCKING torrents -- and are probably getting fined. 1.77 Trillion? Probably not...

IS this because they are allowing things like torrents, or not allowing? Im out of it today. They were doing something along the lines of injecting packets that made BT clients disconnect. It never affected me, oddly.
Comcast has been excelent for me and only goes out with the power. I just wish they would offer a better upload in my area. :(

Oh, well i've downloaded quite a few torrents over the past few years (30 gigs worth?) and I have Comcast. I remember like a year ago a bulk email went out from them saying they'll cut your internet if they catch you downloading them.

filtering bit torrent?
or being total pricks because they basically have the monopoly?
certainly the second but comcast's shithole seems to be made of torrent filters.
also I'd lol if this happend :3

i dont think it's Bittorrent specifically. but my bro said he was having Problems with Edonkey.
apparently 80% of his servers are blocked, but when he came here he could see all of them. (i'm on a different ISP)
he managed to get a number from someone in the Industry and took it to them about it. Their response "where not at liberty to discuss it".

Remember that not all users torrent. I doubt the fine will be even a third of the 1.77 trillion USD.

I really like the service comcast gives me, I have no problems with torrents (however I don't use them very often)
http://www.speedtest.net/result/221384030.png (http://www.speedtest.net)
They have continuously increased my connection speeds without increasing how much they charge. My upload was 384 kb/s last year and now its 1500 kb/s. Heck when I use torrents its not uncommon for my upload speed to be higher than my download speed.

That's from PowerBoost, though - Comcast's way of misleading their customers into thinking they can get the speeds Verizon FiOS offers with their fiber network without switching ISPs. It does wonders at making customers happy with speedtests and extremely small files. Your real speed is most likely 6 (or 8)Mbps down/768kbps up.

*590 billion
I could see it amount to a $6 billion fine. That sounds more in the ballpark. If it ends up going through, it probably won't be any more than $1 billion because they're all butt buddies with the Comcast CEO.

If you can get them Road Runner is pretty good. We pay about $50 a month for that up there. We used to have DSL but they continually fucked up and refused to admit there was a problem when we completely switch all our hardware out and our internet was still going at about 11 kb/s for a month. My mom's business relies on being able to upload shit so we actually use the upload speed given to us by that service. 10 mb/s download isn't too bad either :D.

EDIT: I don't know why I'm so fixated on this, but it's 3AM and I'm bored and feeling that special way that I do when I'm sleep deprived, so you'll excuse me if I amuse myself by attempting to blow this possible minor prank which is of no consequence or annoyance to anyone whatsoever and does not break any rules or regulations and is a completely legitimate and safe method of gaining a giggle or two, out of the water:
Upon looking at the rest of the test pictures in this thread, and testing one myself, I've found that,
-The final numbers are never situated that far from the left side of their fancy little number fields,
-The url of your image is an imageshack url with a custom filename before the usual 3-character imageshack garble,
-The rest of the tests have been linked using the conveniently provided image link located below the results on the website.
The only reason I can think of for downloading the actual image to the hard drive would be to edit it in some way.
Blame the gnomes.

Well I really don't care, because on filefront my upload speed is 1500 kb/s and all that matters is that the its not slow.
http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i5/Random846/test.jpg thats not a small file and my original speed of 384kbs up was from what I had on filefront last year.
And the report that the speed test printed out showed a connection of 8 Mbps down

And this is at a good time. It's very inconsistent.
Although, I might end up switching to 1.5 mbps down with Comcast... just need to see if it's worth it.

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080114-fcc-officially-opens-proceeding-on-comcasts-p2p-throttling.html
The Federal Communications Commission has officially opened a pair of rule-making proceedings over network management in the wake of the discovery that Comcast occasionally blocks some BitTorrent (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071019-evidence-mounts-that-comcast-is-targeting-bittorrent-traffic.html) and other traffic (Comcast calls it "delaying (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20071023-comcast-shooting-itself-in-the-foot-with-traffic-shaping-explanations.html)"). The proceedings are not unexpected, seeing as how FCC Chairman Kevin Martin promised (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20080108-fcc-to-investigate-comcast-bittorrent-blocking.html) an investigation last week at the Consumer Electronics Show.

Why am i Pesismistic about this outcome?
some how i dont think anything will come of this and Comcast will escape through a loophole passing it off as "reasonable network management".
