Me and my friends won a couple in a row and haven't gone up, so I'm wondering how the stats work

It doesn't work.

>_>

No. Technically, you're supposed to gain skill (if it's what I'm thinking of) for beating people with a higher rank than you. Likewise, if you lose to someone with a lower rank, you'll lose skill. Plus, I've won 70-something Team Slayer games and I only have a rank of 20. It takes a while to raise.

EDIT: Haha! Bungie.net has a comprehensive forum topic on the matter. http://www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx?postID=14414600

If that was the case, then how did people from beginning of the release when everyone was level 1 get ranked up?

By beating other people who had about the same amount of skill. You gain skill by beating people with the same or higher skill then you.

The rank factors into your EXP: If you beat someone with a higher rank then you, you get more EXP. If you are a high rank, you still get EXP for beating people lower then you, but a Sargent going against, say, a Capitan, and winning, the Capitan wouldn't get or lose any EXP, but the Sargent would go up maybe 3 points. If the victory went the other way, then the Capitan would only get about 1 EXP point, and the Sargent would stay the same.

I think the ranking system is total crap in how it works. Hell im not even sure 100% how it works. Friend made a 2nd account to play doubles with me (hes a 50 in doubles, Team Slayer, and lonewolf) cause my doubles was only a 30 and we work together well. So he joins with his 1, and in about 14 games he was a 32, and by the end of the night he had gotten a 50 on his second account while I only hit 43. Total BS, cause we did about equally as well.

all you have to do is gain exp or skill points to get exp play games online. to get skill points play ranked matches online. good luck =D

It doesn't work. At least not in a intelligent manner.

It helps a little bit with his problem. Why his rank won't go up is either because he doesn't have the required skill level or the experience points. The page I posted explains that fairly well with a nice diagram.
