Alright people, let's try this again, but this time, with less fail.

RULES:
Either post your works, criticism, or explanations of what your work is, if asked. That's it. If you wish to further discuss what someone said to you, PM them.
All works submitted MUST be something going into or already in Halo CE. Don't post random crap here; there's a thread in offtopic for that already.
If the image is over 800 pixels wide, please use shot tags.
Don't drag any drama into this thread that was started in the previous thread*.

Violations of these rules WILL be slapped with an "Irritating Post" infraction (1 point, 14 days to decay).

*Violating this rule will result in a "Flamebaiting/Trolling" infraction (1 point, 1 month to decay).

It randomly popped into my head while I was chatting on the Halogrid IRC. I tried to base if off the basic triangle-tower forerunner architecture. The smallest peices would change color to rank and the medium sized would change altogether (havnt made any other examples as of yet). The largets peice would stay a strong silver.

I've been thinking of removing that small triangle and just making it the large and medium sized peice, also altering the primary peice to make it seem less....sharp.

Low poly models. Shaders will be tweaked to the best when in-game. I'm not going to reveal much now, but it's a big change to CE and Halo.

@snaf: that banana clip looks almost comical :S. how much weight would that add to the front of the gun?

Yeah, i really want to get decent at textures, because i have all these models i made, but no textures for them, so im still experimenting what i can really do with photoshop

Well, now that the old thread's closed, I had to repost my favorite work (Yes, I play favorites. Sorry, Turf).

At the moment, I'm working on the street adjacent to the door street. I have the actual street finished, and I also have one side of the buildings finished. On the other side of the street, however, there is currently a bottomless chasm. Many people have died of thirst falling down this hole (There's no bottom, remember?).

You should texture that as though the paint was peeled off from wear and tear around where the edges of the extrusiony things are and the edges of the actual model, rather than have it look like blue paint was thrown at the things with a bucket.

Ripped it from UT2004, it's not mine. No way I'm gonna learn to model and skin that fast.

Yeah, I used the needler explosion as a base tbh, modified it around a little. Also, I didn't use Fraps. Fraps wouldn't capture the windowed mode of it. I used print screen.

kenney, there's absolutely no need for that rediculous highlight. then there's the scratches, which are excessive. there's overdone, then there's "WTF did you have a seizure on your tablet". i can't even see your base texture. the style of the scratches, however, seems ok. get rid of the lighting, the bad edge wear, and the overdone scratches and show what you've got.

Muki's Unreal Tournament/ETC mod

After about three months of picking up MAX and HEK from scratch, watching tutorials, training myself and learning how to work with the given tools, I've managed to pull off something I'm surprised hasn't been done yet with Halo CE.

I've never seen anybody take the bizzare, unique weapons from Unreal Tournament and attempt to port them over to CE. I took it upon myself to accomplish just that. Here's my progress so far:

And to answer your question about a map, I do have a map idea, but I've got no mapping skills.

I'm wanting to eventually remake the map Deck16 from the original UT into a map for Halo.


Unfortunately I don't think UnrealEditor for the original UT can extract levels as OBJs... that'd at least give me something to start with.

Overall, Deck seems like it'd work well as a Halo map; reminds me of Prisoner to be honest... but, again, I've got no mapping skills. So that's not gonna happen any time soon >D

Demonmaster, you shouldn't post things like that until you've got more to show, really. Also, I see quite a few non-planars, which are quite ugly. I suggest you at least fix those before posting another picture.

the NMC base is about half finished, i need to finish modelling the hallways that lead up to the garage, the entrance to the sewers, the electrical generators lining the walls of the flagroom, the teleporter stuff. Then ima model the garage building and call it a day, then work on that highres hog of mine.

OK, the street doesn't look anywhere NEAR as good as the building itself. It's lacking some detail, but the base itself is :awesome:.

The barrels look nice, too. Maybe do a high-poly Blood Gulch or Hang 'Em High or something.

Yeah, played it again on emulator after many years yesterday, and thought that if I made the whole town as if all the parts were joined, and even had the guards there blocking the outside doorways, and even show stuff outside the map, it'd be great for gameplay. It has lots of stairs and rooftop action, the different areas of the town and stuff like that.

Also, I'm primarily making it for ut3 as a deathmatch map. I'm going to literally make not only the town, but the outside walls and the whole outside area around the town, with the swamp, the ice plateau, the astronomers house, everything, even the moon.

Though you'll only be able to go in town. It's just so you can run past the town exits doorways and see outside in it's awesomeness. I know ut3 can handle it, cause there are maps with entire cities surrounding them made of real textured geometry.

I'd just delete a heap of geometry and keep only the inside town stuff for the CE version.

yea i know, it's just i'm really busy, and it's going to stay that way for a while. i'll do render updates (as for getting a wireframe, i have no clue how to make a decent one)

oh and muki, i just thought the odl 2004 shocker was quite gaudy, bulky and needed a remix.

WOL that base is the shiz, no teles on earth plz, it doesn't sit well with the storylines. earth does not have teleporters (unless you somehow did ruined mombossa with exposed forerunner ruins)
dano, i would love a resurrect on that old z64 mod, if you do that IT WILL be full of win.

Actually for teleporters i figured out something really nifty, i kinda stole it a bit from half life 2. The bases have a lot of circular geometry in it if you havent noticed, and the flag pedestal will be in the center of a column of glowing energy (think about the energy thing that the index floats in). Basically, the entire base is full of generators, and im thinking that the teleporters will be 'pads' that you step on (complete with a massive set of cords and tubes leading to the top) that you teleport in. It gives me a chance to add some interesting glowy detail :D

@wol that's thinking, something like that would look a little more human in design think you can make it so that the player who goes through the teleporter flickers and dissapears as they go through? that way it kinda gets that look of imperfection. humans may be forerunner survivors, but the technology isn't as advanced.(that new mombossa base kinda reminds me of berlin from bf2142)

Dw WOL, It's going to look very smexy If I do it right and model it all right. I plan on having a big bunch of wooden scaffolding in town where that "tower" is being built. Just the sort of detail the artists would have made, had the technology been made available to them at the time. Not going to change anything though, just up the detail of everything and add some stuff where I think it needs it.

Got rid of them.

Now that I've modeled a vehicle on both teams, I must say, I like modeling the Empire more. Rebels is a hard look to get right.

So, I'd decided to start small and make some munitions transportation devices, or in other words, boxes, for a map idea of mine. I wanted to keep them simple, yet recognizable, due to their underlying purpose. Some opened boxes will be strewn about the map and will contain a weapon (or two, for the smaller weapons) and ammo for that weapon, rather than just having the weapons spawn at random locations per the norm. I also want to do the same concept with Covenant weapons, but just directly copy from H2 and have them spawn on Covenant crates.

I'm going to go back and triangulate them tomorrow (enough modeling for today - I just made the pistol and long rifle boxes as thin as I could get them while keeping to my self-implemented constraints, and I still have to fix the feet and foot indents for the other boxes) so there won't be any chance of non-planarity. Three points with different xyz coord's will ALWAYS form a plane! Don't anybody dare argue a 4th+ dimensional setup or I'll bludgeon you with one of my crates. And it won't be one of the light ones.

Agreed. Symmetry is not a good tactic to use when making a map. It gives the player more chances to become confused and disoriented. A good level designer knows to give each area its own uniqueness and distinct traits that contribute to the playing area and allow a quick visual reference.

Work on te cliffs. Make those bases exactly the same distance away from the center. And start modeling the cliffs in. But don't mairror it. The cliffs are soemthing you should never copy over. And They have alot of poly wastage.

Although what you've done looks great, i have to agree with the others that it's too symmetrical.

Another thing that it looks like you havn't taken into account is Size. with a Base that size you'll never find anyone. Think about it once you put in the Other base the same size Plus geometry and other areas between the Base's.
Things that massive are more suited to games with Much a higher speed such as UT3, or larger multi player games capable of having 34-64 players.

Im considering it for a UT2004 thingy too, if I can figure that out.

As for the symetrical thing, Ill delete the cliffs on one side, but keep the base in the same spot, just so its the same distance.

As for that building, its a middle base, it will have a one way hallway and elevator, so you dont exactly have to worry about it being difficult to find people inside, it wont be that complex.

I think the base is good as is, and its not a team base, its a middle base that will control a bridge for the vehicle path.

I guess once I get it ingame I can always adjust for prime performance.

watch those lines, you've got little gaps where they meet up. Use paths instead so you can easily stroke over it multiple times if you need to redo them.
