My best shot at something worth buying is from Dell, $1500. Specs:

Model: Inspiron 1720
Processor: Core 2 Duo 2GHz
RAM: 2GB, 667MHz
HD: 250GB, 5400RPM
GFX: 8600M GT
Sound: X-Fi Audio Card (Cardbus)

EDIT- Fuck it, I'm just getting the DX10 card.

Anyone know of a lappy like this with a better price? Thanks :3

why do you need a laptop, do you really need it as a portable computer?

if not you can do what i did to my computer. i got a q6600 (2.4Ghz quad) and 8800GTX 768, 2gb of ram and a new motherboard and i just reused the Hard drives, power supply, cd drives, mouse keyboards and screen.

got it all for $1600 and now i average 75 Frames all settings max 1600x1200 rez in HL2 and UT3.

Do you legitimately need a laptop or si it because it's cool and portable?

I do need it for traveling and such. Trust me, I already have a sexy desktop, which I'm upgrading when GeForce 9 [actually] comes out. (See specs for details XD)

Heh, yeah. From what I understand, the 9800GX2 isn't actually GeForce 9, and that it's really the 8900GX2 because its just 2 8800GTX cards rather than a new chipset. Supposedly, their real shit is supposed to show up in the fall.

If I'm wrong (which I usually am), I'm getting a superclocked 8800GT. Better than a normal 8800GTX, and only $300.

I thought the 8800 GTX is still better at higher resolutions?

What's so "phail" about mobile DX10 cards? The 8600M GT is pretty good, although its presence in a 17" laptop makes the laptop look underpowered. However, an 8800M GTX was recently launched.

You'll be hard-pressed to find a brand new laptop with dedicated video that doesn't have a DX10 card. I can find you good deals on www.newegg.com (just type in the video card, then click on "laptops" in the left-hand category filter), but they mostly have DX10 cards.

Also cards like the 7900 only fit in 17" laptops or larger. Do you really want a laptop that oversized? IMO, anything above 15.4" is too big for a laptop.

The Inspiron is actually 17", ha.

I tried NewEgg, and all it found were lappys with either the 8600M GT, a 7 Go with [really] low specs, or an Intel accelerator (lolz).

For some reason, Dell only offers the 8600M GT and 8600M GS. How recently released was this fabled 8800M GTX?

I believe only Sager, Alienware, and Clevo have laptops with this card. It was released in very late 2007.

Bah, my desktop's DX9 card has as many shader operations as these things... I'm gunna stick to a DX9 card, at least I can get my textures to look okay that way.

EDIT- Fuck it, I'm just getting a DX10 card.

I meant it's not better than a normal 8800GTX.

(See specs for details XD)You mean the specs that list that you have 4GB of RAM in your PC? That also list you've got a 32bit OS? When last I checked 32bit Vista didn't use over 3GB. :eyesroll:

Xetsuei: For that price I'm willing to blindly say that it's close...

Atty: Yeah... none of my shit would work if I used 64 bit.

1100 € = thats 1.608,893 USD. (normally it should have been 1400 € lucky me :))

But you can check the acer price list on their site.

At $1180, this laptop is a steal.

It's got a T7500 C2D, which is blazin' fast. It has 2 GB of RAM, which you don't see in many pre-configured notebooks (normally, pre-configured laptops only come with 1 GB of RAM, although you can always install a second gig yourself). It also has a Geforce 8600M GT, whereas similarly priced notebooks with a Geforce card often have the underclocked GS version. Finally, it has a large HDD and a 2.0-MP webcam. The only thing missing is internal Bluetooth which is important for me but may not be a big deal for others.

and what's with all those "bah textures look better on a DX9 card?" If the game doesn't support DX10, it'll just run in DX9 mode but it won't impede performance in the least.

Of course, if you're hating on DX10 THAT much:

It's got impressive specs for such a small 14" laptop - a C2D T7200 plus a Geforce Go 7700. It's more expensive than the Cyberpower up there but ASUS is an azn brand so it's obviously more reliable and sturdy. The problem is that it has only 1 gig of RAM, but I don't think it hurts that much to spend $30 on another stick.

After enough crazy research, I'm just going with the 8600M GT.

Buckshot: The first laptop you suggested is a bucket of awesome. I just wish they didn't have so many blasted connections on the side. I don't even know how they fit all that stuff on a single side. o.O
