I would except that most of them are angled or curved which means I'd have to unwrap it all which even if I do it at 1024x1024 it will still be pretty pixelated because it's spread over the whole city... I do totally agree something better has to be done with the sidewalk but idk if that's really the solution.

The road seems really 'new', if you know what I mean. Spice it up a bit, maybe add some tire skid marks and minor cracks in places. Maybe even add tar marks?

u can separate the ground into a few pieces and unwrap them into more than one bitmap you know. i honestly don't really like the looks of it atm...but it may get better the more you add. we'll see...

I was going to suggest something along those lines.

Make a very high-res base map for the streets. This would contain the lines, main color, some discolorations (oil stains, wear and tear, etc). Then use the magic of shaders to put a detail and bump map on the main map do make up the bumps and grooves of asphalt.

also, don't be afraid to add in some color to your bitmaps. they are lacking color and damage(mb grunge). it just looks too new, especially for a war torn city. other than that, it's not terribly bad or anything...just could use a pinch of spice and a hint of garlic. lol.

Yea, sorry guys, Finals were hell. It summer now and I'm back in the saddle trying to take some of scooby's advice and wracking my brain trying to get all these UVWs to work... anyways, heres an update on the road and a barrier I'm particularly proud of:

Unfortunately, because I unwrapped it the quality went down a bit, but it was easier to grunge the hell outta without repeating and worrying about seams.

Also, don't pay attention to the sidewalk, that was effed up when I unwrapped the road cause I had to drag the whole map off the screen then unwrap the road... thus I'm gonna unwrap the road only and UVW the rest... I hope...

I just remembered the offset feature of unwrap... >.< ... that would've made my life easier. Oh well, I'll keep that in mind from here on out.

Do a normal tilable texture for the road. The just put some planes right over the streets and unwrap and make some tire marks.

Just finished up the 512 by 512 version. I'm still working out the details, but I'll finish it up pretty soon. Microsoft Image Composer and MS Paint don't give you much to work with.

Honestly, the reason I said "Fuck This" and threw my hands up in disgust is not just when everyone here not only criticized my attempts to get this textured so you can have it playable, but also the fucktards that are like "HURR her 1s a road I painted in M$ pa1nt!!! Isn't it bettar!!". That's just insulting to me. You guys can obviously handle it yourselves so do it yourselves.

Also, despite hours and hours of work I have never once received rep from working on this map. I mean, come on, show some appreciation and maybe I'll be more willing to finish.

I do appreciate the people who rep me now, but the thing is, I see people getting repped out of their mind over stupid idiotic posts and I don't get any until I freaking complain about it.

Anyways, I am re working on it and I'm trying a normal aspault texture with an alpha channeled map with lines and damage and such on top... wish me luck...

EDIT:

Ok, I wish that alpha channel thing was my idea cause it's freaking brilliant. Here's a sample of 10 minutes of work with the base map and some more realistic style traffic lines. I haven't started on the damage but it'll be coming I just want to get the lines set up then be able to mess it up from there so I don't want to hear about how it's "too clean". It's very much WIP.

If you want any help I can help. I've done some work with drawings in Photoshop(and perhaps texturing might not be too much different) and me and Smash work together well, he and I were on a project together a while ago. I'm not exactly the fastest worker because I work a dead-end job 5 days a week.

No that's not what I'm saying. Honestly, both road attempts were approved by Snaf to go ingame. You OCD people just keep making me redo it and redo it. If you guys really ever want to ever play it, I would suggest making crits that I can work with without having to UVW and reUVW and reUVW unwrap the whole freaking road.

It's ridiculous how much time I've put into just the roads and no one is happy. Pretty soon, just to finish it, I may just do the rest in Paint just out of spite.

Smash ,my friend, keep up your work; this in the end will be a great learning experience. I've liked all of your UVW unwraps so far on this road. Just take the critique you get and run with it, may it be good or bad. Just try your best to improve yourself, just because they say it needs to be changed doesn't necessarily mean you have to. You can't please the world. Everyone will have different tastes and not everyone will agree on how well something is because everyone has different views, etc.

For the majority of the people who will play this, they won't even notice the UVW/Textures etc. They will notice all of the Gameplay elements that go into this. Don't get me wrong textures play a huge role but they won't be walking around looking at every seam and error, or how "clean" or "dirty" it looks.

Just keep up what you're doing. Good luck.

Nice work smash, keep practicing, its definitely an improvement, one thing to remember though, the yellow lines are painted onto the asphalt, so you should be able to see some asphalt textures in the yellow lines because its just paint.

It's looking really good so far, keep it up? The only bad thing I see are the white lines on the wrong side of the road, but you already said you'd fix that, so it's all good. I can't wait to try out this map. There's one thing that Halo needs more of, and that's city maps.

Well, i hope the map has good sized gameplay for foot soldiers. I really don't want to see it turned strictly into a vehicle-needy map. I think this is what made New Mombassa so good. It was for everyone.

Good. I think HaloCE is completely plagued by the vehicular combat it offers. Too many warthog spammings, banshee hogging, and scorpion camping. I'm glad there is something that completely focuses on the player, for once.

hey sorry snaf, I would've gone farther but my computer totally took a dump on me and wouldn't allow any high end programs such as MAX open... in the process of doing a build but having problems with crap parts from newegg... be up in maybe 2 weeks >.<.

I was referring to Sidewinder, BG, Timberland, Infinity, etc that are plagued with nothing but vehicle-whoring. I rarely play Longest, Derilict, nor Wizard by personal preference. I'm tired of playing some maps, like BG, Coldsnap, and other maps greatly played that have vehicles, and was emphasizing that I wanted something new.

This map is taking a while. I hope it turns out great. ;)

Only suggestion I have is if someone wants to work on it and finish it have them pm you some of their work, I agree on nay to the overall community though.
