It's making a comeback. There was supposed to be a release simultaneous to Ambush, BUT all the texture files were lost when my laptop caught on fire. I had the geometry backed up on a cd, though. I have yet to model some machine gun emplacements and rubble, but it's coming along. When the alpha was tested, it was a whole lot of fun, even just one vs one. For one reason or another, my tank traps are missing... but that's not too big of a deal.

As it stands currently, there's about 28k triangles. every building has breakable glass, interiors that are accessible to a limited degree, and is very very fun for infantry only combat.

This MP map is modeled after the first level in Black, by the same name.

This map is being released for CE, that's why it's posted here.

For further development on the mod itself, they have moved to another engine. But it doesn't mean it's completely frozen.

yeah, the pk is just too many triangle for your average player in this game. There will be, however, turrets behind sandbags.

The cab looks good to me though.. uhh idk, maybe add handles for doors, u don't have to model in the doors but a handle would be good enough. The texture can take care of the rest. Also what kind of truck is it gonna be. Maybe you should consider making the back have those like wooden side walls or what ever there called... :confused2:

Um... idk about it SNAF... wheels look horrible... cab looks nice, the back is too low poly unless you need to do that in order to keep FPS down. So... idk where you are goin with it...

i'm glad you can read smash. as previously stated the cab is the only permanent part of the model. meaning everything else is either a placeholder or just far from finished.

1988 triangles now, and yeah, there will be a drivetrain underneath, as soon as i find a few more angled shots. i have blueprints, but they're only cross-sections. also, going to add interior.

looks good. The building on the right with the pediments looks rather odd. I'm sure it's just early but... something about those pedimets mixed with the roof and overall building shape kinda make is stick out to me.

The smaller one accross from it with the L shaped indented corner is very nice.

heh, managed to knock down the triangle count by 11,000. now sitting at a comfortable 63k triangles, which includes scenery items like light poles, vehicles, barriers, debris and so forth. I'll be trying to include more detail and knock down the triangle count again.

you should make more battle damage on the buildings like mortar holes and bombed out buildings with sniping spots that you can reach in some buildings. Overall it looks really good except that only one part of the city has visible battle damage

The amount of buildings and stuff will make portals pretty effective I think.

Having structures blocking of segments of the combat area from certain points of view will be helpful with portaling, as there will be more of the combat area that is not necessary to render from each point of view. k?

Depends on what you like.

But He has a point, you have to try and apeal to all kinds of players, not just one group.

For example, snow grove.

You have lots of cover, and a squishy walking path to bases, and a wide open vehicle path.

as does this >_>. the streets are open as you see but almost every building is accessible creating some close quarters combat >_>. you try to appeal to everyone, but not everyone is gunna like it.

The original Veblensk on Black had very good gameplay. On BlackOps mode there was always plenty of cover to duck behind, as well has explosive objects to take advantage of. The map itself is just perfect for guerrilla warfare. The fact that Snafubar is remaking it for CE and adding a few tweeks will ensure it will be an epic map. Yes I'm sucking up but its the truth, bite me.

I'm eager to see the textured version.

Way back when I first made this map, we had an alpha test. Usually ended up being 1v1. Remember that, Bacon? Bacon is a far better player than I am, yet I was able to use building cover to my advantage.

If you don't see a lot of cover in this map, you're not looking at it right.

Also, unreal tournament is a great game to mod with completely new stuff. There's no reason why anyone should have to stay with halo gameplay or styles. Well sorry! No need to freak out! If only I had added [/sarcasm] you wouldn't have said this. The modern weapons in Unreal Tournament was true though, but the 'this is Halo!' was sarcasm. I, myself, was kind of bored of regular Halo 1 weapons, which is why I like modded weapons, which is why I play Snow_Grove a lot, because it's not boring old Halo 1 weapons. I would be playing Ambush a lot, but it lags my computer. Before you say it, yes, I know, my computer sucks, my brother's going to build a new one.

Building interiors could be portaled, but they don't need to be. 3/4th's of this map's triangle count is taken up by scenery. Scenery doesn't render when you're not looking at it, and building interiors are low poly, so portaling probably won't make much difference.

textures have no affect on gameplay. there is no need to waste production time while waiting for a map to be texture while the bsp is finished.


I believe this is going to be optimized (with portalling) so it won't make your FPS half-assed like ambush did?

this map can easily be portaled, LOD will be applied to all scenery models, third person weapon models will be very low detail. when it's all done, if we get it done right, fps should be perfectly fine. not to mention, like snaf said, the majority of the triangles are being taken up by the scenery he has in the render.

I beg to differ. Scenery, no, all objects will still render if your view cone is within the bounding radius, no matter how many walls it's behind. The engine will still make the effort to create the render geometry, even if it's not visible.

Put exactportals in every building opening.

Very nice! Be sure to have a sniper rifle of some sorts spawn in there, just because it would be so perfect. Also, break a hole in the ceiling of the tram car. The more destruction the better!

Thus requiring you to be a good sniper and relocate. I don't get what it is with people and not relocating. Every time I get my hands on a sniper in-game, I'm always ready to haul ass to another point of the map to get the best vantage point with the most escape routes, and continue moving after each kill, and often before the kill is complete.

the sniper spawning in the tram wouldn't be a bad thing at all to be honest. getting up there is elevated and exposed, anyone around can take potshots at you easily.

I'd just make one spawn like 10 metres down the line so people have to go for a walk for amo (and so expose themselves).

Polys don't grow on trees in these parts. :D

Either way it still looks cool.

Also about a sniper being placed there I agree with putting the sniper not inside the train that way the sniper doesn't have the luxury of staying hidden all day and not having to move for ammo. I think it'd be a good idea to have it out on the track somewhere, so its possible for him to get picked off when hes going to get it; if your a good enough shot with the pistol, or another sniper.

I just played it and thats really not ads. All they did was make a scope, and instead of using a ridicule they made the model cover over the ridicule. What these guys are doing (at least I think) is more in line with COD scopes. The accuracy changes upon zooming, while in halo it remains the same, you just can see your target better. Good map though.

gah enough ridiculous speculation. we took peoples advice from ambush and decided to give people iron sights. they are simply a scope mask, therefore no animations, however it magnifies your view slightly, and improves your aim. also looks pretty decent (granted the weapons aren't skinned).

I started playing halo CE about two years ago and I was interested in making maps....but then I found out that its somewhat challenging....so I quit like I always do and leave it up to the people that do it best...which is why I came to this forum :D...and as for the "ads"

TBH that doesn't matter, a scoped gun when using ironsights would just go into its scope. Scoped weapons don't have iron sights.

that's entirely possible with animations. quite simple to. done it many times before. here's my comparison of each.

Animation:
pros:
Arms and gun move as player moves.
an actual animation is played when aiming down the sights
looks a bit nicer
cons:
can't zoom, sights are very small otherwise if they were closer the model would start to clip and it'd look ugly

Scope Mask
pros:
Can actually zoom and provide aim assist to give the sights some purpose other than just a crosshair.
Less obstructing sights, not looking through a tiny little hole.
cons:
no animations, it's just a mask.

so i went with the more useful of the 2

I'd volunteer to do UVs, but I'm probably just a peon compared to most people in this forum.

As a UVer, I have the least experience of, probably, anyone on these forums. You've looked through my stuff on HM (the bridge NOT the pitiful bridge ends I'm working on). I did the UVing for that, but that is honestly nothing.

Again, not like you were considering, but I'm don't think I'd be good for the experience and skill part of the job (the time and patience part I have ;) ).

Sidewalks are rather ew. I like the road though.

The sidewalks were supposed to be burnt/dirty and it didn't exactly come out great

If the sidewalks are supposed to be burnt and dirty, that's a bit of a contrast from the roads. Just add a little bit more disrepair to them (think highway 17 roads).
