View Full Version : Space Station Ideas

As some of you know I am a part of a group working on a progress-starved movie series. Due to some lost files, we need to build a new space station in 3ds max for use in animation. I thought it might be interesting to see what people here could think up. Worst case scenario I'm looking for some general ideas, if that. Best case, someone with a lot of time on their hands builds a simple model that we can extrapolate stuff off of.
The general look is that of a surveillance outpost in orbit of Earth that observes both the planet and the stars. Ships dock sometimes, so it should be large enough to allow for that. A slight ominous feel to the station is good, since the government turns out later to be not so nice as everyone thought- *cough*spying*cough*
Here was a half-completed one of ours before the files were lost: [Edit]- it's ugly, but more of a concept model than anything else.

Looks more like a free floating extruded-to-death cube then a space station to be honest.
Look at some other sci-fi space stations, watch some modeing tutorials and start over.

i like how you took a spline, extruded it, extruded some boxes some more, and copied it and called it a spacestation.

Okay, wow.
I'm actually the one that made that station :( . Sorry it had to even touch your eyes. Personally, I think it should be taken down to stop wasting bandwidth...
The model was never meant to be viewed as anything more then a pre-concept, just a simple thrown together "Hey how about something like this :?".
And to my defense, for I feel the need to redeem myself after that atrocity, and all the shameful responses, is a quick render of my 3D modeling school project... ( I rarely model, Its not something I plan to pursue, just something that I have A fun time doing. :) Bit more of a programer myself.)
And here it is, in all of its half way finished glory:

It would be, but Tweek still hasn't come to the realization that textures matter more than an overabundance of extrusions. :awesome:

Was thinking that myself, impressive nonetheless.

Hey Tweek, have you seen this animated 2000 sci-fi movie called Titan AE? Your space station looks a lot like the Drej mothership from that movie.
