I know I'm probably a dumbass/n00b for asking this but is there an easier way to play Barre chords such as Em7?
I've been trying to learn the song Roots Rock Reggae - Bob Marley, and I can't really get the chord right and once I do get my fingers in that position i can maybe strum twice and my fingers will sorta fall out of place.
Right now what I'm doing is barring the entire 7th Fret with my pointer finger and putting my other fingers where they're supposed to be, yet it seems so easy.. I can imagine theres an easier way, or do I have to build calluses on my entire pointer?

Mb he's using one os those things (so i play guitar alot but i dont know names) where it's basically like a hair clip that covers all the strings on the 7th fret.
or do you need to slide up and down the frets abit?
post a pic of what your doing and i can help you more, i'm just not very fluent in the music language. i basically work off feel, sound and Tabs.

it just takes time man. eventually your fingers will get used to being in that position and you'll be able to do it easy as hell.
just have patience and preserve.
Also once you get fluent at doing these chords that will open you up to a world of Metal/ punk / rock music. because it's basically the same thing just simpler and played faster.
I myself nearly play Solely on these types of chords. Bar chords are win.
also Bob is awesome.

Mb he's using one of those things
I believe the word you're looking for is "capo"
Anyways, the best way to learn an easier way to do a chord like that is to start by only holding down the first four strings (E, B, G, D) and then as your finger gets stronger, try holding down all six at once. At least, that's how I learned barre chords. Of course, if the barre requires sound from the A and low E strings, then this may not work. All I can suggest, then, is for you to try some of these variants of Em7 I found on guitar tabbing websites and see which one sounds best to you. There are lots of guitar tabbing websites with big chord dictionaries that will suggest alternate ways like this:
Em7 [0 2 0 0 0 0]
Em7 [0 2 0 0 3 0]
Em7 [0 2 2 0 3 0]
Em7 [0 2 2 0 3 3]
Em7 [x x 0 0 0 0]
Em7 [x x 0 12 12 12]
Em7 [x x 0 9 8 7]
Em7 [x x 2 4 3 3]
Em7 [0 x 0 0 0 0]
Em7 [x 10 12 12 12 0]
Hope this helps!

Double post I know, but..
My dad sent me this 'Ionian Scale.pdf' file to teach me a scale on the guitar for a song I'm also learning in the future.
The file can be found here: http://files.filefront.com/1Tab+IonianGmajpdf/;9475766;/fileinfo.html
I don't quite understand it, is the scale just a series of chords?
EDIT: Wow I'm stupid, I completely forgot how to read scales hah.
