I don't know if anyone here was affected, but thanks to all the kiddies getting their shiny new Xbox 360s for Christmas, Xbox Live was having a bunch of server crashes. So...
Marc announced that all Xbox LIVE members (Gold and Silver) around the world would have access to a full Xbox LIVE Arcade game to download free of charge. We’re pleased to announce that beginning next Wednesday, 2:00 a.m. PST through Sunday, 11:59 p.m. PST, Xbox LIVE members worldwide can download the full version of the recent award-winning Xbox LIVE Arcade game, Undertow (http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/u/undertowxboxlivearcade/).
Personlly, I'm glad that MS didn't just give us a crappy game and call it compensation. Undertow is actually pretty good. Plus, for any of us who didn't experience problems (like myself), a free game is always a nice treat.
Also, for those of you who may already have it, "You should call support, they're prepared to take care of you."

They have enough money to buy the world 3 times over, so it cant hurt to give out a free game every once in a while.

those arcade games can't be played online can they? if they can I'll buy halo 1 and never look back at halo 3...Arcade games are different from Xbox Original games. Arcade games are specifically developed for the 360 often including Online Play over XBL, Xbox originals are just the entire Xbox game ripped to your hard drive. They have nothing more and nothing less then their original game did, so if Halo 1 Xbox didn't include XBL play then why in the hell would you be so stupid to assume Halo 1 Xbox Original version would allow for some online play?

Compensation my arse
They should have just admitted defeat and given everyone at least 2 free weeks of XBL (Gold), even for the people with silver accounts.
Heres a few reasons why this compensation sucks balls.
1. Some people might not like this game, but EVERYONE would have liked 2 free weeks.
2. Why should Microsoft benefit from this complete bollocks up over the xmas crisis? They give away this free game, it will get people interested, if they make a sequel they could get better sales because more people are hit by the M$ propaganda bs.
3. How is a free game compensation for a week+ of not being able to get onto XBL, when its the time of year when people get the most games and the most xbox 360s? I would have been outraged if I had a new 360 and couldnt play online and would be horrified if they tried to flog a freebie without proper compensation.
Heres what Microsoft should do, give everyone 2 free weeks AND give them this free game, compensation shouldnt JUST be "oh here is what you missed" it should be "here is what you missed AND heres a way of saying sorry (the free game)" there for if you dont like the game, no worries at least you get the free time that makes up for your sadness at Christmas time.
This isnt a MS bashing post, this is bashing the way they handled it all.

Or you could not be an ass and just say that Halo 1 doesn't have online play, even on a 360.

And then theres always explaining things without over reacting. I have heard Halo 1 is an arcade game now and I wanted to know if it would work online. I have never played an arcade game before and I don't use my 360 online very often, so I didn't know this.

He just explained how Halo 1 is not an arcade game. Did you read his post at all? Or were you trying to call him out just because dg did it too? Seriously.
Also, I don't want this stupid game. Why would they think anyone cared? They should have offered a free Xbox Original game instead.

I misunderstood his post. I thought he wasn't aware that halo 1 was up for download, because I thought that was what an xbox 360 arcade game was, an original xbox game that could be downloaded. I was mistaken. Also, I was calling him out because he called me out.

I'm one of the 5 people that actually got it. I was big into Bioshock at the time and wanted an Underwater game. *shrugs*
I also called Xbox Customer Support and got 800 Live points refunded because I already have the game. Go me!

...And that's why you aren't in charge of a multi-million/billion $/£ company nor will you ever be with such wishful thinking as that!
Anyway, i believe no one at this time can actually download this as the load on the servers is too much, how ironic.
Downtime = free game (compensation) = Downtime?? Full circle!
