Fuck, i acciendently hit the enter key before i actually made my post/ title

Uh..crap.

Ignoring my stupidity and my laptops random ways of making me hit the enter key i wanted know what you fellaws thought.
I have 300$ in the bank, and i really want to spend it. Basically there are three things i could do with it.
-Build a computer
-Buy a welder
-Buy a decent engine (mainly a lawn mower for a project.)
- Or just keep it in there and add on to it.

Just need some input.
Thanks,

Zilla, you said salvage once when we where talking about your computer. Its what i plan on doing. Just upgrading a older computer to run faster. Not a gaming rig more like a everyday desktop but better. Mainly holding files, playing music, maybe running a few dee vee dee's.

And i could do it for 300 maybe a little more.

You could easily build a comp for $300. It won't be very good, but it will be a computer.

Unless of coarse you need a monitor, keyboard and mouse xD.

I got a decent sized monitor that i was never able to use. Keyboards, i have a couple lying around just need to fix them. (missing keys, grease, and who knows what else there covered in)

I'll post the part list for the PC.

F, my list is gone... ugh... brb

^Thanks, but i have bought computers pre-built and i never really got my hands on them. Its mainly why i would love to build one, not some ultimate quad core beast. Just so i can listen to my music, play Css, hl2 series, and a few others that already run good on my laptop. I want my own desktop so i can give back the laptop to my parents, who own it. (My dad is using a dell from like 98.) Also play some dee vee dee's that i own.
Heres what i got ; (please understand i am about as computer literate as a mouse, so if there something wrong with one of the items correct me. Flame me, criticize me, call me names but help me understand why thats not a good item. thanks)

I was reading a lot about cases that come with power supplies, mostly bad.

DVD Burner (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827118002)

Grand total; $307.95
And with the MIR its
$237.95

The thing i really need help with are the video card and the hard drive. I don't need some uber expensive video card. A nice, stable, reliable and good performance card. I mean i read a bunch of stuff about the 8800gt or something. Is there something else that isn't so expensive but will still give me better performence then a ATI Radeon Xpress 200?

Hard drive i could salvage from another computer, but what would be a good one? Also what is a good DVD burner/player. Ill salvage a floppy drive, and cd drive if i have to. And i am sure ill have to buy cords and other things. Sound card is a additional 30-40$.

So am i on the right track, or am i a dumb ass with no idea?
Thanks everyone.

PS, this would fall under a completely custom built pc, if i was to just upgrade one i would just spend like a 100$ on some things. Still deciding.
