"– Integrated Intel(R) 950". This appears to be integrated graphics hardware, far from ideal for any gaming.

Adding another gig of RAM might be a good idea. But yea, the integrated graphics are a bigger problem.

i'm going to get to the point and say NO
this can't run most games.

maybe it can run them with all settings on low, but i don't consider that "running".
invest in a proper computer, and not something 3 years out of date.

Some of you guys didn't notice that...

Yes it is fine but it is a little outdated. If you want to run Crysis well at high settings, upgrade.

Move to tech mb?

Also, you might be able to run Quake 3 or warcraft 3 with that hardware. I laugh at all my friends who spend 1000s on high end gaming machines just to play nothing but warcraft 3/world of warcraft.

Also, for <$500 you can get much better if you ordered your own parts and assembled the PC yourself. Prebuilt desktops for equivalent prices are rip offs.

For that same price you could probably get a 8600GTS, AMD Athlon X2, 2gb ram, and a ~160GB hd machine assuming you would have all the basics already such as case, keyboard, monitor etc.

Been an Nvida supporter myself, i only know a little about ATI graphics, but i do no that the 'X1650' is similar to the 7600 series in Geforce.

Now, that out of the way, this PC will run some games ok, but anything after mid 2006 id say maybe 2007 wont run on higher then medium with good frame rate.

If u bumped the RAM to 2GB and the Processor was like a 2.6Ghz it would run, lets say, Crysis with low/medium mix, maybe medium with slowish parts.

I have a 2.6Ghz dual-core, 2GB, 8600GT system, and i can run crysis on Medium with no fps lag at all, smooth sailing. And i can play it on high with only a 'minor' decrease, which i only use for Screenshots.

So, if you want to know if this can run 'most' games, with your X1650 yes, it can run most games, but most will meen setting alot of the 'higher up' games to low. And, take mine and Botolf's advice, defiantly get 2GB ram not 1GB.

I have an ATI Radeon X1300 (VisionTek) Overclocked, 1.5 gb of RAM and I run at 1280 x 1024px resolution for my default desktop :] (2.2 Ghz Processor)

I can play Crysis on Video settings set to Medium, with good framerate. Don't ask how I'm able to do this, I've been very lucky with everything I do :P

So if my x1300 can run that, you should be able to run a lot more. Except for the additional Windows Vista you got there, get rid of that and put on XP. Makes the computer much faster and you're able to pretty much support all games. :)

vista sucks, yes call me a neanderthal but i hate it. it just s-u-c-k-s.

In agree with ur 'disagreenance' to liking vista, cos i still hate it. I used it for 4 months so no one can call me bias, it's just ... just... NOT XP. When it gets its patches and fixes, i'll move back.

Vista will make your gaming pc a shitbox. With vista on my laptop (alienware m5550 with 2gb ram, nvidia 7600 go, core 2 duo 1.66ghz) it gets horrible performance in games. The fps isn't that bad compared to XP, but the constant stuttering you will get in current games make them unplayable for the most part. Even if you disable every new feature, from searching to areo, it won't improve a bit, and there would have been no purpose even run vista in the first place. Its so bad, that my girlfriend's $600 HP laptop running XP with 1gb ram, AMD sempron 1.8ghz, and a integrated 6150 gets smoother performance than my laptop with vista on it. And besides that, your computer will overall just run slow as if a virus is on it. Don't be fooled by all those vista zealots saying games run fine. You need a high end enthusiast gaming rig to not be able to notice a difference in performance, and even then, it will still be worse than XP.

And that's why I am switching back to XP.

Check out my specs.
They are not that high end, but I can run all of my games very good on Vista. I would go back to XP, but it would freeze afew seconds after starting a game, and I would haveto restart.

Wow. Vista is that bad? I just have the theme cos i thinks it sweet. I guess NOT upgrading to vista, just getting the visual/sounds, and keeping XP instead was a good decision huh?

Are you buying the computer online? If so, you can save a shitload of cash building it yourself, trust me (order individual parts off Newegg and assemble them). For $460 I can build you a system that has midrange dedicated video (albeit a smaller hard drive, but the other specs would be around the same). Also HP/Compaq is t3h suck in terms of reliability and durability. All the tablet PCs my family has bought from them broke down in less than 3 months.

Of course, if you don't have the resources to buy online (paypal, credit card, etc), and therefore have to buy the computer from a store, I can understand.

vista is just fine ........ for me. My laptop doesn't have any problems with stuttering in games.

Make sure you get the newest drivers for all your hardware.
Download the vista service pack (release candidate = at your own risk)

This will make vista so much better.

I don't experience any stuttering in any games running Vista. Although I can only run at the lowest of settings in the latest games, but I couldn't do that on XP either ;). I honestly don't see any performance change from XP to Vista, except for maybe shutdown times but that doesn't bother me.

An X1650 should be able to play most games at mid to high settings, my X1300 Pro does!

You might wanna look at a getting more RAM and the CPU might hold you back by next year.

Vista doesn't suck. It's just young. I remember that in 2001, I was screaming blue murder over XP's "problems" that got patched eventually. However, it is too early to make games exclusive to Vista alone.

Stick with XP, as even Crysis runs on it. If you really want Vista, I suggest doing what I did - a dual boot partition or dual hard drives with a different OS on each. Fact is, I still go to school, and therefore I reserve my XP hard drive for important documents.
