Actually, most of the time i do spend off the forums, and i've never needed help getting off the forums (unlike you, mr banned and then pleaded to come back).

And if you understood the post (which is to say, you really didnt) it was about how much of an rats ass (none) i gave about the people freaking out about me not posting a debug. Honestly, it wasnt a conspiracy, it was just not worth my time to post a debug to a person who judged evo on a pre-alpha unfinished-visualization stage compared to his released mod, and an old friend who thinks everything i do goes with conspiracy (yes, you rob ;P )

And sorry, i don't cry or even get barely emotional over things that won't end up changing my life or a close one's life for the worst. Apparently too many people nowdays don't respect themselves enough to hold in the tears over the small things, eh terror?

Also, off the record--i have nothing against you terror, even though you foolishly got involved between me and my ex, even though you foolishly ignored many a people trying to help and, and even though you foolishly walked into this topic, posted that disrespectful spew, and hoped that you would look like a badass stating his opinion. dude, there's gonna be at least 150k of detail objects that are sceneried for LOD's etc, so im trying to keep the main thing down. Also, max renderable tris in one frame is hardcoded into the engine and a BITCH to work with in such an open map. I'm practically done modelling save for a few things, then im going to work my ass off to portal it.

well, it doesnt 'compile' 100k, it compiles the individual model instances, and its up to the engine to render it. TIME TO PUSH IT TO THE LIMIT.

I have to say that the addition of the out-of-map area around the map is great; many CE maps lack that extra atmosphere, and I always liked the extra details Bungie threw into their Halo 3 maps in the forms of unreachable areas.

Portals are still quite screwy, and I know there isn't much you can do about it, especially right now, since you'll be adding and subtracting from the map as time goes on. The tops of the bases have a tendency to flicker in and out of existence as you walk around.

You're missing the buildings that should go right next to the hog cages across from both bases.

For your next test build, please use a sky that illuminates everything (no shadows)? I can't see a lot of things very well and I get disoriented easily trying to figure out how things look.

Dark shading, i agree. I was thinking of maybe dusk so i could bring out some colors.

At moment--the only 'portals' were the exact portals, and i dont believe they were even working. So, the errors you saw were simply the engine overflowing. Polar, i dont know what you're talking about, you should turn up your gamma--i can see everything. And yes, im actually missing 4 buildings.



Let's look at my checklist:



Finish modelling the buildings (the corner by the base, and the highway sided buildings)
Shrink the highway entrance and make it merge into the lanes, not become the lane
Finish modelling the bases (the garage, the extra paths)
Fix the starcases of hell
Finish the Parking Structure
Finish the connecting section of one of the outlying buildings
Make curbs lower
Finish walkways from base to adjacent buildings
Finish pathway along the buildings to OS
Model highway doors (and overhead FRG place thing)
Finish the doors and energy field thingy to serve as boundary markers for map
Anything i forgot, guys?

The transparency on those renders makes it kind of hard to see what's going on in there, but it's still damn cool looking. May I ask what technique you used for that?

Also, I'm very impressed that you've kept it down to 40k. Now I'm willing to believe that you'll actually get this to work, especially if you do a lot of your detail in LOD'd scenery. +rep if I can.

I'm not getting excited till I see some ingame pictures. We know you are a beast at modelling, but this is called high res halo. Not high res render that might go into halo on a good day?

Also, will you be doing anything to give the level a purpose? Right now, it is just a long hallway that has not much to it to make it appear Forerunner other than a limited number of angular areas and the standard textures.

Longest is a fun map until the faggot server admins do it wrong and cram 16 people in there for KOTH matches. Honestly, I'm for chaotic games and everything, but there is a fine line between "chaotic and fast-paced" and "shitty grenade spamfest."

Damnation is probably my favorite map cause it has a lot more variety and its one of the more complex levels in halo. Its extremely entertaining on some game type. Personally i love Team Elim Invis Snipers. Its crazy.

Heh, ill do it the same way i did NMC, only in a forerunner style. But im actually thinking of asking Mass to do it, because he knows forerunner better than me.

You know, come to think of it, I've seen gorgeous human, forerunner, and covenant levels in Halo CE, but I've never seen a well done flood level. Except for one, I forget what it was called, but it seemed more of a proof of concept than anything else, and was very minimalistic.

Of course there's a good reason there have been no good flood levels (that I've seen), and that's because it's really friggin hard to do that sort of organic material. But... We choose to go to the moon and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard! did I get that quote right?

If you pull it off, I will be very impressed. I say go for it.

You know, come to think of it, I've seen gorgeous human, forerunner, and covenant levels in Halo CE, but I've never seen a well done flood level. Except for one, I forget what it was called, but it seemed more of a proof of concept than anything else, and was very minimalistic.

Of course there's a good reason there have been no good flood levels (that I've seen), and that's because it's really friggin hard to do that sort of organic material. But... We choose to go to the moon and do the other things not because they are easy but because they are hard! did I get that quote right?

If you pull it off, I will be very impressed. I say go for it.

1. Scary, little dark, symbiot styled flood&covenant map.
2. Covenant styled, lots of "neon" lights here and there. Very colorful.

There's a lot less popping of geometry--it'll hopefully go away with portals--but its looking better and better.

I don't know about you nvidia fags, but you can force anisotropy through the Catalyst drivers. When I tried it, I got massive artifacts everywhere, but I guess that could have been because I had a not too powerful radeon x1600 then :\

I'm currently mulling over the idea of throwing on some knifes, ammopacks, etc onto the model as detail--i could make it a random permutation. But then again, i dont want more work with making LOD's.

The first set of renders looked fugly to me, tbqh. The smoothing was all wrong. The legs look much better in this render (http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/7691/shot2yv8.png). I still don't understand the odd circle shapes on his thighs, though. Srsly, what's the deal with those? Also, MC still suffers from plastic diaper syndrome. I know it'd be really hard to stick to the original model while avoiding that issue, but I think you should see what you can do to reduce the appearance of a solid piece of plastic molded to his ass.

Also his hips are all wrong- the crotch especially. These are all problems the original H1 MC model had, which is sort of why I'm pointing them out- it would be kind of nice to have them fixed instead of leaving them in there.

But all that said, you are an excellent biped modeler. For all its shortcomings, that is a quite good biped. Please at least consider my crit instead of dismissing it out of hand like you always do.

for the armor, i'll start it off by getting all the metal smoothed out and correctly formed, and then ill take the metal into mudbox and add badass scrapes and shit, and the people will rejoice

(plus it'll be good for my portfolio)

also, when i have time, ill redo the shottie stock more like the h1 stock. THE PEOPLE HAVE SPOKEN, AND WOL HATH RESPONDETH..

Lovin the shottie except the stock it looks like a rather odd and impractical if I'm understanding the design correctly. If you wan suggestions looks at other retractable stock styles and play around with them a bit. The traditional M4 stock looks bad ass always. The paratrooper style folding stock doesn't really look good on a shotgun. But here are some images of the folding style stock if you want some other ideas

The stock on the m14 EBR is also a nice place to get some interesting futuristic ideas (see here for m14 stock (http://www.pixagogo.com/5706244105))

Personally I just don't like what you got there. Rest of the gun is dead sexy, but you should add a bottom rail on the pump.

I've noticed that in halo, skinning actually reduces detail, especially if it's overdone. I hope that whoever skins this does not overdo the detail on the skin.

My computer sucks from what I hear, but it so far can run on with decals if I put it on 640x480. Not too bad, but it lags a bit when Norton and Apple want to be gay and spam it with pointless updates.

Would a good tester to see if our computers can run these maps be this one(?):

I'd have to agree on Church being the hardest map for FPS. I can load up Valkryie with a bunch of magic and it still runs faster than Church for me, because the entire map isn't based off Dynamic Lights (while Church is, which gives it such a kickass look).

We wont know until we get there. Honestly, if you have a 7800 or better, you'll probably be decent. 8800 and you're great. 6800 is about the generation I'm wondering about preformance. Even so, just lower the resolution and graphics and you'll be fine. It'll still look better than any other Halo map.
