Basically it's some New Projection equipment that Sony was unveiling over in Tokyo. This is amazing to say the least.
if this becomes main stream we might find our selves very close to the Star wars Holograms indeed.

it projects it into a stream of water, so i dont think it'll become mainstream till they find a way to suspend particles in the air without getting your livingroom wet.

It's still got a long way to go, but it's great they've already gotten it to a point where it can be displayed like that.

It's been done since 1994, I believe, in the Fantasmic! show at Disneyland in CA. They set up a wave, and project the images onto it.

The we have some Pyrotechnics thrown in, but that's getting a little off-subject.

EDIT:
Fantasmic, for those who haven't seen it. The WDW version is a little more impressive, but this is the ORIGINAL.
