I'm still having a bit of trouble understanding some of this. So, did a malicious site rerouting Youtube overload the provider, or did the government order it be shut down?

IMO, cencorship is automatically bound to fail.
But then most chinese don't believe the tiananmen square massacre never happened and that the rest of the world is lieing so I suppose there are some cases...
