View Full Version : Recording sound from Youtube

I downloaded Audacity, intending to capture the sound coming out from some Youtube music videos of this Chinese singer called Wang Lee Hom. Audacity works fine when I'm recording my own voice, but I tried to use it to record the data that's actually being transmitted through the onboard sound card in my computer, and it didn't work at all. Any help?

The videos whose sound I want to record:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=Nn3rhMKGElM

and

http://youtube.com/watch?v=wYKOY1i7yHc&feature=related

I also tried using SaveTube, but those FLV files crash after 10 seconds of being opened in VLC player, so recording sound from SaveTube'd videos is not an option.

Thanks in advance, I really want to capture the sound from those two music videos. No, it's not for profit, just for my own enjoyment.

Try http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/
I use that to download, then get the Riva FLV Converter and when you convert just change it to .avi instead of .flv in output. (Change the get_video to blablabuckshot.flv or something) Download Goldwave also to convert AVI's into sound files such as mp3, wav, mpg, etc.

Long process, not really, but I do it all the time :)

This is a one step process that I use very often:

FLV to Mp3 in one step (flv2mp3.com)

Just copy the link of the youtube video, click "Url" on the FLV2MP3 homepage and paste the link. Click upload and wait a while, it'll come up with an MP3 download eventually. Just rename it after downloading.

No need for fancy software, here is what you need to do:

XP:
1) Right click your sound icon in the start bar.
2) go to properties
3) Go to recording tab
4) make sure that stereo mix is checked.
5) Press OK
6) Check the stereo mix box. Now all the sounds the sounds that go out of the speaker will count as a microphone sound.
7)Find a sound recorder
8) record
9) ????
10) Profit!

For vista users:
1) Rightclick the sound icon in your start bar
2) Select recording devices
3) There should be a Stereo Mix icon in that list. If its disabled, enable it.
4) Rightclick and set as default.
5) Follow from step 7 above.

To disable this (XP), just go back into the recording settings where you checked the box for the second time and set it back to the microphone. For Vista, go back into the recording devices and set Microphone or whatever the default input was before.

Vixy.net - You can download the app or do it from their website, it lets you save the file as an mp3

You could just plug the speaker outs to the external audio input, not mic. Then you just tell Audacity to record from there.

Thanks for your help guys. The Vixy thing worked, and it was a hell lot better than pointing a microphone directly at my speakers.
