can anyone tell me some good settings for a light emitting shader? shader template and settings?

Well if your asking it means you better just modify an existing light shader and rename it. Just add your bitmaps to it and it should work for you.

It should be made based on the size of the area its emitting, the relative color, the mood you want to give, etc. Lighting is more than finding pre-existing ones.

ok i get that...but i'm still not sure on it. for instance which shader template should i start with?
basically, i have a dark cave that i'd like to light up. i saw johnnyblaz's thread that was similiar to this but i need a better explanation.

open one of the pre-existing light shaders in your forrunner/light folder and add new bitmaps to it.

ok, so i've been using the tex_bump_detail_mask.shader_template shader template. But that one is opaque. i could play around with it but i was hopin to get an example one kinda like the one through your chimney in your house map.

i couldnt really find a good shader to display the light it self and emmit light as well, so i made two shaders example: smallstrips_blue (for the lights bitmap) and: smallstrips_blue2 (just to emmit the light)
this is how it was all set up;
Shader Name______ Shader template______ 3ds Material ID
--------------------------------------------------------------
smallstrips_blue______ tex_bump_illum_alpha_test_____ s_l smallstrips_blue%!)
smallstrips_blue2 ____tex_bump_illum_3_channel _____s_l smallstrips_blue2;%)

And what you would do is make the face that the actual bitmap of the light will go on, then you will make another face (useually just shift copting the other one) and put it infront of the bitmaped face and just match the material names to the correct faces.
This made for a perfect light.

I know it seems complicated but its not.

Its a tut on interior lighting in 3DS max...

i will try it later but i just wanted to see if anyone else had tried it in Halo 2 PC?

What kind of lighting are you looking for? there are a couple light shaders stock with the h2EK. just use one of those.
