For those of you that didn't know, after long hard moths of excruciating wait, the first Service Pack to vista has finally come out.

This next section's hidden for teh comp noobz who dont know what a Service Pack is.

Well how is this important?
Service Packs boost the stability of an operating system and provide newer updates. Do not be mistaken, just because your system is being updated does not mean that new features are being added. Your operating system becomes more stable, no new features that may affect general performance of windows applications, and no, your settings don't change.

Well if it's new what are changes if any?
Vista Service Pack 1 introduces a newer version of Directx this version is Directx 10.1 or something like that. All it does is make the graphics look a little more crisp and enable some more advanced features that Directx10 didn't have. However, only the new nvidia 9 series cards can handle Directx 10.1.

Without further ado... quotes and links from M$.

What is Service Pack 1?

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 (SP1) is the complete set of Windows Vista updates Microsoft has issued over the past year plus additional enhancements to improve your PC experience. SP1 doesn't add new features or require you to learn anything new—it simply makes your PC more reliable, run more smoothly, and even more enjoyable to use, all at no charge.

You disregarded the entire Halo 2 bit.

Not going to install this, last time I tried to, everything went ploof and could no longer load Vista due to corrupt file.

was it the beta/rc?

its highly unlikely the install will go bad, and the pros far outweigh the risk.

You didn't notice any differences because you already have a beastly computer.

Loading raw images from my camera actually load in the picture viewer, instead of just freezing.

Umm...not sure if you guys got the memo but SP1 is a BAD idea. People's computers have literally been destroyed by it. Like a LOT of people.

lmfao, id love to see this memo.

if you think the software will somehow destroy physical parts of the computer, you are sorely mistaken.

sp1 is HIGHLY recommended.

After windows update failed to get it, I manually installed it and there's no difference. My drivers still are teh sux, but it didn't get any worse.

File copying is faster. That's the only increase I've noticed. There have been too many problems though.

Programs not loading, but after a few reboots they load now?

And sound driver reverting from 5.1 back to 2 channel but when setting back to 5.1 it wouldn't work. I had to remove exclusive access. Now it works.

well most of the problems are with superfetch.
some of the MS techs on online blogs stated that when switching service packs, Vista will dump whatever is floating in ram during the upgrade. when the upgrade is complete, Vista will have to re-learn what your most frequently used programs are. this mostly is noticeable in the startup. the software won't remember the startup programs and take longer to boot

as for any other issues, it's the software/hardware developer's fault for not staying up to speed and making not making things compatible. MS is not responsible for making system drivers for specific companies, such as ATI or Nvidia. for those of you vista haters who believe vista is crapware because of incompatible system drivers and software suck it up and go complain about your problems to the software/hardware developer. i'm tired of hearing how much vista sucks when it's not bad software.

@EP_Killa read my sig (right back at ya).

as for halo 2 not working; well look at the game's track record. it started out as this ass-whupping piece of own that was destined for greatness, then someone came and fuxed it up. the team that came and made the game has been disbanded and there are no new service packs. IF and that's a big IF halo 3 is to be ported, find something else to occupy your time *cough* call of duty 4*cough* *cough* crysis*cough* *cough* orange box*cough*while you wait for the port IF the port even happens, IF the port's even worth your time (like the original halo port made by gearbox). halo 2 for vista's not worth it. GFWL isn't worth it!

of course that's all ready well known and really old news
