Your opinion please. Over the past few months there have been a couple of topics regarding the issue of the MLG (Major League Gaming), and more specifically, their Halo branch (I'm not even sure if they do other games). Anyways, I'm interested in knowing why there is so much hostility towards the organization. Elitism? Fanboyism? Do they descecrate the game itself? I wonder because I have noticed no other large-scale league has attempted to challenge MLG for dominance over the newfound territory of professional gaming. I believe it is a legitimate business to be made, and will flourish over time. I'm interested in isolating what it is people feel is good and bad about the current set-up. Please post your opinions here. Don't make this thread about me or my foolish dreams of a better pro-game. Post what you feel.

P.S. Please DO NOT insult others for their opinions unless they are clearly in lack of taste. Their opinion is just as valid as yours.

Thanks in advance.

The idea is great. The people following it aren't quite so. Sure there are some good, possibly even great, people involved with MLG but the vast majority aren't. Since MLG caters to minors, the maturity level is quite low. I had a chance to meet two of the people behind MLG back in 04/05 and they were such assholes I stopped playing. Sure it might have changed since then, but I haven't cared enough since then jump back in.

I guess to combat the less-than-mature players, one could implement a mandatory manager for each franchised team. Someone at least 18 years old to handle all legal matters of merchandising, salaries, etc.

Idealy, yes, but that just isn't practical. The majority of 18+ people will have jobs/personal agendas to deal with, and are less likely to be able to meet at specific times to play games.

CONS: I hate MLG because of all the wannabes out there who get all competetive and brag whenever they win, and talk shit like they're superior in some way/shape/form, giving the organization itself a bad name. I've had friends who attempted being good enough to "go pro" and they'd be the most obnoxious assholes you'd ever imagine.

PROS: I do like the fact that they try to make it balanced and equal for all players. Something many games lack.

GOSH IM SO JEALOUS THAT THEY MAKE LESS THAN MINIMUM WAGE SALERY FOR BEING GOOD AT VIDEO GAMES GOSH

My major problems with MLG:

They endorse and encourage bug abuse (specifically Halo 2 weapon animation interruption) to gain a winning edge.
Retarded, immature majority userbase.
Retarded, immature bandwagon following.
Have you seen the MLG Top 10 plays? The announcer dude sounds like he's blowing a load over every kill, wtf tone down the enthusiasm.
ESPN Sponsorship. I would think videogaming, competitive or not, goes against everything ESPN stands for. Seriously, what's next? Professional bus riding?
The fact in itself that it spawned from the Halo franchise. Seriously, why didn't MLG spawn from Unreal Tournament, Counter-Strike, Quake, or pretty much any game that actually requires that you do the killing yourself and not have the game aim for you? Halo 2 and Halo 3 are only competitive games because of the people who think that being good at Halo means something.

But, the one thing I like is how they stand for consistency, especially in the entirely random environment of the game.

I know the type. I've got one friend who will do well in a few matches against me and some friends, then say stuff like "Yeah, you know, I think I'm getting really good at this." Then we take him online where he can't screen-spy and he proceeds to suck balls, and can't seem to figure out why.

But, the one thing I like is how they stand for consistency, especially in the entirely random environment of the game.

I would have figured that being "pro" would include being able to adapt to different settings. I think that the constant map settings and gametypes of MLG, though useful for practicing effectively, could use more variety.

They abused Yelo. Downright fucking abused. My co-developer "xbox7887" (aka Mike) had originally contacted them (or they contacted him, w/e), and they wanted to use our Yelo project to record games, take ingame pictures and such. So we let them.
And then they started to broadcast these recordings...and making money off our tools. Nothing their fucking dimwitted pre-adolescent minds could ever fucking accomplish without, because their too fucking busy circle jerking each other while one of them trys to figure out the next BXR.
So, Mike asked for some compensation. He helped them out, getting it setup, showing them how to use it, all for free, all on his own time. Then they fucking went "n u, money mine, u r != mlg ur r fag lawl lawl, i r bxr u kthx bai *circle jerks*". They didn't do JACKSHIT in return.

They're greedy ass mother fucking hounds, whos cojones seemed to defied gravity and floated up, replacing their fucking frontal lobes, instead of dropping down filling the already absent void that had confused their doctors and parents of their true sex for years before. They care about nothing other than being elitist cunt bags of flaming dog poo because they can't have a flaming helmet.

The majority of people I've come across for both Halo 3 and COD 4 in GameBattles have been much more mature than the matchmaking Halo 3 crowd. I personally despise matchmaking where everyone talks a bunch of shit and rags on anyone who goes negative.

If you get into the GameBattles crowd their pretty nice. The damn noobs who don't get involved in any clans and only play FFA's with people they know there better than and develop huge egos because of it are the problem.

Actual MLG people are pretty cool. MLG want to bees are the most obnoxious people ever.

I'm personally looking forward to the gametype. I'll play with my buddies and back out after each match.

No, the players are in no way "cool". Nothing associated with MLG is "pretty nice". They're over cocky assholes who talk more shit then a 12 year old learning how to use the f word and have the mentality that they're better then everyone else. When in reality they've managed to do less with their life and dead beat drug addict, who can at least get laid (consensual or not >_>)

As long as you have the original source code for yellow, you can sue them for a portion of their profits and win. They're using your code to earn money without your permission and not giving any share of it.

Thehoodedsmack, what you dont seem to be getting is no matter what you do, it wont change the fact that those immature people are still going to be immature. The only way to get rid of the problem is to get rid of them.

dammit stupid tourneyfags

I know an MLG'er. He's an asshole, and is convinced that Halo 3 sucks because they fixed (or axed, in his opinion) BXR, Superbounces, and that kind of thing. He also was a Smash Bros. Melee fan, and now that they've killed Wavedashing, he's all MELE R BTR GUH.
And then there's the 8-year-olds on Matchmaking who insist they're pros because it says so on their Gamercard. Then a real MLGer comes, and they bitch and whine, then another MLGer starts talking, and they're on about "YA THEY KILLED BXR WTF."

I don't like em.

Halo pros are on three year $250,000 salaries, I'd be jealous.

I actually quite enjoy the ACTUAL aspect and competitiveness of the REAL MLG. The one that gets broadcasted between the like top 8 TS teams.

The rest of it is a fuckfest of prepubescent faggots.

Ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, ChefKornman's attorney would certainly want you to believe that his client wrote "Stinky Britches""Yelo for Halo 2" ten years ago. And they make a good case. Hell, I almost felt pity myself! But, ladies and gentlemen of this supposed jury, I have one final thing I want you to consider. Ladies and gentlemen, this is Chewbacca. Chewbacca is a Wookiee from the planet Kashyyyk. But Chewbacca lives on the planet Endor. Now think about it; that does not make sense!

Well first off, it's not a 3 year salary, it's a 3 year contract, there's a difference. And only TWO teams have received such a thing. Final Boss was given a 3 year contract back in 2006 for $1,000,000 and Tsquared for $250,000. The massive majority of MLG players get like a few hundred/thousand dollars for winning tournaments. They don't get paid shit. I make more money in 6 months then they do in a year (comparing major tournaments, not minor $500 ones those aren't even worth it). And I work part time.

If you can get that kind of contract then hell be a cocky faggot cause it won't matter with that money. But it's the same issue as other major league sports 90% of people who try to make a full time well paying career out of things end up washed out working as a janitor. So really, it's all a waste of time.

Chewie doesn't live anywhere. He has a life debt owed to Han Solo, and, as such, he must follow Han wherever HE goes, and Han's home is the Millennium Falcon, meaning that Chewie doesn't live anywhere.

Not that it matters, because in the books, Chewie dies. And Mara Jade (Not that anyone would know her). And Admiral Ackbar. And Emperor Palapatine (He comes back to life in a big, huge, science fiction cliche cloning facility).

And like half of the Star Wars characters from the movies.

As of the latest book, here are who is alive from the original movies:
Luke
Leia
Han
Lando
R2-D2
C-3PO
Wedge
Janson
Mon Mothma (She's retired, and, Yes, she's in the movies. Episode VI.)
Boba Fett
