I got fed up with the lack of a Source section in the site, so I've decided to make one measly thread in the hope to show there is demand (So post in this if you want to help out and show demand!).

Anyway, post your maps, ownage, mods, stuff you made in Gmod, videos, etc. of things you did in Source.

E: Yes, I am aware I spelled official wrong. So sue me.

Also, here are some tutorials (Thanks legionaire!)

Even though I only just fully discovered steam and source games about a week ago, I LOVE source to death, because of this (http://intelintegratedgaming.blogspot.com/2008/01/how-to-get-half-life-2other-source.html). They're awesome for tweaking a little, and after that, they run *perfectly* on my shit integrated graphics.

So, pretty much, I've got to Anticitizen One in HL2, finished Portal, and spawned too many explosive barrels next to large groups of zombies in Gmod.


You know, I actually have a question. In all my source games, as soon as I start it, it's in 640x480 even if I changed the res last time I played the game. I think it might be because of the -autoconfig parameter the guy in that blog says to do, but idk. Also, when I start a game and get into gameplay, my health, ammo etc. don't show up or are partially hidden, like so:

See? The ammo meter is missing half. Sometimes I can fix this by changing the resolution, but sometimes it still doesn't work. And when I switch weapons in Garry's mod, no matter what resolution it's on, I can't see what I'm switching to; only the top 5 pixels or so of the weapons switching palette thing are displayed. Anyone know why my source games are being so ghey?

Glad you like source Muffin, I assume you downloaded the autoconfig file that the blog suggests, if you open it up in notepad, you should see an area explaining about resolution, if you change this to the numbers you want it. When you run it, it will always be set to them (unless you change of course)

The ammo counters messing up I'm pretty much 100% sure that its to do with the resolution, whenever I played HL2 and changed resolution, it always cut up the ammo counter =\. Changing resolution is really the only fix.

I had no idea what this "Half Life" series was when playing WoW (ugh) and Halo. How stupid I was. The orange box is the BEST package EVAR and I'll never let go of that point. /fanboyism

Anyways, Team Fortress 2 is my favorite source gaming right now. Very addicting, yet very fun, and yet not based off of "ZOMG UBER 1337 AWP SKEEL". And there's going to be a hell of a lot of new content past the 15th for it. Crituber will be painful.

+1 for Source section. Crysis is for nubs.

TF2 definitly rules the roost right now. Its at a great price, on the source engine, comical and original style. Different classes makes it more dynamic, rather than like CSS where its just different guns, heres it different speeds, abilities, looks etc.

Theres a new update soon for TF2, new map and new unlockables for the medic.

The medic will get 36 achievements for his class, some simple, some fucking hard (10 million health healed? nothx). Every 12 you gain will unlock a certain item for the medic. From what I heard, these will be two medigun replacements, and a third item of some kind. One of the medigun replacements will replace the invincibility ubercharge with an ubercharge that gives 100% chance for crits for 10 seconds. (before you cry imba, remember that crits don't effect engineering doodads) I'm trusting valve will do their best not to bork the game up too badly.

Firefox is going nuts due to all the TF2 and intarwebz lingo I'm using...

if a source section opens up, I might actually hang around these forums more often. I pretty much have nothing to do with halo or halo 2 anymore. I vote we rename these forums to have something to do with just game modding or mapping in general because it seems like no one here even cares much for h2v.

Hey Limited, thanks for the advice, but the blog doesn't offer a download for an autoconfig file, that's just one of the parameters you put in launch options. Also, there's nothing that mentions resolution in config.cfg (the config file for each of my source games) so I can't change it there. Oh yeah, and I forgot earlier, but in Gmod, everything is gone. I can't see the ammo, health, suit, or even reticle unless I change the res to 1280x800 (my native res), and even then the HUD disappears again after a few minutes.

this might not seem to much to you guys, but this was the greatest owning i have EVER done in TF2
I was a sniper.
i think i got 4 dominations.
23 kills
a ridiculous amount of Headshots
and i was alive for like 15 minutes.

i managed to lock down the Well CTF map completely by taking out everyone that left the base. I hs'd a soldier, then 4 scouts all moving (jumping running ect) in a row with no miss's.

The Medic on my team abandoned the other players and stayed healing me, which i much appreciated. because after about 10 minutes the other team started organizing wave of assaults complete with 1 heavy, 1 medic, 2 soldiers 3 scouts and a pyro comming directly for me.
cause they wanted to take down "that bastard fuckign sniper". I've never ever seen or played anything like it. They completely ignored all other members of my team and waged assault directly at me.

and finally after 23 kills guess how i died?
The train got me. not the team, not the other snipers or the Rush's with soldiers Rocket jumping over walls where i was standing.
the mutha fuckign train.

and to be honest, i think it's made the story all the better for it.

it shows me as a scout regrettably because after the train got me after all that time, i turned scout to help the team cap it out.
Mission fucking accomplished.

and on a side note my brand spanking new G9 Logitech mouse is unbelievably fuckign awesome.

BTW, I found out what's causing my games to start in 640x480 and preset graphics settings, it's because of -dxlevel 70, because I was playing CSS and it was lagging and I remembered I didn't set it to DX7, so I did and it started super quick but in 640x480.

That'd be like a game of Halo where your only gun shoots teleporters.I guess it could work like those HL2DM puzzle servers, where multiple people try at once to solve puzzles.

In Portal 2, if it still follows Chell, she's in this real world now, and there are weapons out there. I don't think she'll be confined to just the portal gun. That would allow a multiplayer game to have some combat weapons, along with the portal gun. I'd bet there be some physics-weapons like the energy ball and/or grenades, if it takes place when the combine is there.

Ugh, I can't believe Black Mesa is still going on. They aren't developing a mod any more, they're developing a game tbqh. Any "mod" that takes over three years to do is either a lost cause or is going to be awesome sauce. I'm really hoping for the latter in Black Mesa's case.
