Bungie has a new job opening:

Contract Position: Port/Emulation Specialist

Bungie Studios is looking for an experienced engineer with the skills and qualifications to port existing software to a challenging older hardware platform through emulation. This is a contract position and will require about one year of commitment for a single project.

Essential Functions

Create tools and software to port a classic game to an emulated hardware platform. Define and help implement all processes for creating this and possibly subsequent ports.
Planning, scheduling, assigning, and tracking the detailed tasks that are port related.
Collaborate with other engineers to help build simple tools for future emulation projects.
Desired Qualifications

Knowledge of Hitachi 128 bit chipsets.
An exceptional understanding of NEC Power VR GPU (2nd generation)
Understanding of GD ROM and HDD caching.
Thorough knowledge of Yamaha legacy soundchips.
Three or more years experience working as a (senior) engineer on a shipped AAA game title.
Strong collaboration skills.
Passion for classic hardware.
Please email resumes (along with demo reels, portfolios, sample code, and anything else that demonstrates your skills) to jobs@bungie.com (jobs@bungie.com?subject=Contract Position: Port/Emulation Specialist).

I have no idea if this could relate to a possible Halo 3 port, but there you go.

Also there's another job (a real WTF job):

<H3>Animator/Dance Choreographer

Bungie is seeking an unusual candidate – an animator with a real understanding of individual and group dance aesthetics. Ideally you will have professional experience in both modern dance choreography and computer animation. This is a challenging and unique role for a very unique individual.

Essential Functions:

Create incredible dance routines for individuals and groups of up to 16.
Work with Maya and other custom tools to build convincing human movement and artistic expression through dance.
Animate human motion using custom tools and middleware
Work closely with artists, other animators, designers and developers to integrate dance into a game engine.
Help create new tools in a motion capture environment.
Desired Qualifications:

Two or more years professional dance/choreography experience
Two or more years animating with a professional game or film company
A portfolio or demo reel that demonstrates strong artistic and dance skills as well as a firm human movement.
Excellent cross-discipline communication skills
Must love all forms of dance, from tap, through jazz to modern and ballet.
Bachelor's degree or demonstrated equivalent experience
Please email resumes (along with demo reels, portfolios, sample code, and anything else that demonstrates your skills) to jobs@bungie.com (jobs@bungie.com?subject=Animator/Dance Choreographer).

That one has got to have something to do with their new game.

The Halo 2 port to PC nearly failed. I have hope in the PC port of Halo 3 if Bungie decides to make it.

I hope not.

If they're planning to port Halo 3, it seems far too soon, it's only been out 7 months. :\

[EDIT: On second thought how long did it take them to port Gears of War for PC?]

In case you didn't notice, it was posted on April 1st, April Fool's Day. Why would they want a dance choreographer?

He's got a point.

and why would they look for someone who could emulate and port things? If they did this, they would've done it for H2V, right?

If they're going to make H3 for PC, why not support Vista AND XP?

Besides, since Bungie broke up with Microsoft and stuff....It's most likely not about Halo

They used everyone who ported Halo 2 to Vista as scapegoats already. They need new people.

And I'm still imagining the possibilities of the 2nd position :D

"Emulate on older platform" does not sound like a good way to get H3 to run decent in at all, especially since Halo 3 is current gen game.

Innergoat is already mad at that comment.

It was more of wishful thinking from me. I mean I wish they got Gearbox to do Halo3PC.

Actually, it was for the NAOMI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sega_NAOMI).

Yeah, AF joke. I was hoping for a Dance Dance Marathon :saddowns:

Wouldn't mind seeing them porting Marathon to the NAOMI though :v

Also: Don't talk about the guns >:3

Things I'm looking forward to in H3PC when it (eventually) comes are:

> Dynamic-deformations in water + real-time reflections (engine supports it, just didn't turn on the yayreflections, or so I gather)

> Real-time reflections (Just watch as I lose my mind and turn it on for every surface of every character, level, and vehicle!!1!11!)

> AI Scarabs (I will put three together in a massive encounter filled with Covenant armies fighting UNSC armies, and it will be awsum)

challenging older hardware platform

Where the fuck does anyone get PC from that.

^^ correct. If anything, my PC is more powerful than a 360...

April 5th, 2008, 09:43 PM
Dont you think its a little too early to start thinking about PC port?

Botolf
April 5th, 2008, 09:58 PM
After all the money that the native 360 version raked in, Microsoft's probably thought about it a lot :p

ExAm
April 6th, 2008, 01:44 AM
Emulating to "classic hardware" would NOT be Halo 3. When you think "classic hardware", arcade cabinets come to mind.

I don't understand why they didn't release Halo 3 for PC AND XBox 360. The series would have made much more money, and too be honest, I'd rather have a custom games/server browser than fucking matchmaking where you can't play anything but what they supply you with.

LETS MAKE A GAME THAT YOU CAN DO ALL THIS COOL SHIT IN BUT YOU NEED FRIENDS AND SHIT TO PLAY

Pooky
April 9th, 2008, 07:51 AM
They want to sell the 360? They didn't spend all that time making massive hype for nothing. I've never seen a game so undeservingly popular in my life.

I honestly can't see any high end computer running a halo 3 pc port, consider this a 733mhz processor with 64 megs of ram ran halo 2 and it takes a pretty good computer to run it, explain to me how a tri core cpu and extremly fast GPU on the xbox will compare to a port of the game, well ofcourse unless they codded it like UT3

The fact that you mentioned a 733mhz processor for some reason, then suggested "codding like UT3"...

You're right, cause Crysis, FEAR, and UT3 are nothing compared to Halo 3.

by "any modern PC" do you mean... any PC that you can go out and BUY brand new right now?.... or the majority of PC owner's machines?

Botolf
April 11th, 2008, 05:13 PM
By modern PC I mean fairly recent components where it counts, like the GPU. The simple truth is Halo 3 wouldn't be the most demanding game on PC by a huge margin, seriously, go ogle some Crysis screenshots and you'll see why :p

TVTyrant

He's right. If I can run Crysis on my computer, I should be able to run Halo 3. Of course, my computer is the one without internet. This one is my parents'.
