Since the debut of Modacity coincides with the finishing of my glass map, I thought it would be a good idea to release it. Plus, first topic. :p

A 3D skybox would be nice.

Yes, give the map some environment and I think it's perfect. This map looks great :)

Thanks I was considering doing a 3d skybox, but I can't figure out the backdrop. Any ideas?

Like the others have pointed out, it'd be nicer if it wasn't just a bunch of stuff floating around with no real practical purpose. Give it city surroundings maybe?

Or perhaps do some canyons or desert-like terrain? This doesn't really look like a cityscape.

:brain wave:

why not have GlaDoS chamber as a backdrop.
rats in a maze controlled by a puppeteer

y/n?

I don't really think it fits in with the idea of the map, but its a great idea for a new map.

Desert-like terrain should work, if I throw in some ruins for effect. Kinda like an old, excavated city in ruin. Turns out I'll use both your ideas, thanks alot!

I took your advice and made a 3d skybox. It's very basic, but it adds alot to the map graphically:

looks alot better, just add some more surroundings and it will be great.

I added a whole lot more terrain and a bunch of ruins farther out in the distance. Its much better because the user can't see the end of the sand dunes, which makes the desert seem virtually limitless.

MUUUUCH better, but I still think it needs some work. The sky is the wrong colour for the map I think... something with it makes it feel so sharply out of place. Perhaps the pink clouds are doing it for me.

Anyone else feeling this? What could be done? A darker, cloudier sky?

EDIT: perhaps a sunset or brownish sky would work better than the bright pink. Something along these lines...

Wow, I actually tried changing the sky to dusk and...I have to admit, you're right. The lighting actually made the map look alot better. I also fixed some errors in the terrain geometry.

I will download and play :) I'll come back on here to let you know what I think!

EDIT: Okay, here it is.

MY BAD. I messed up my game settings which was why the bots weren't spawning. Sorry about that. Carry on.

Also, I'm noticing that it's easy to fall off the side of the map and fall through and die. Is there any way to make invisible boundaries so this doesn't happen?

Overall, it was a good map. I didn't know the glass could break so I was having a good time shooting out all the panels. I wanted to jump through the glass floor panels to see what would happen. Turns out I fell through the map before I died. You may also want to edit that somehow that hitting the ground results in death, rather than falling through the map. :P

Other than that, I think the setting is great, it looks REALLY REALLY FUN... I think the changes made were definitely for its benefit... great job!

Yeah, I figured that's the first criticism I'd get on the map. It is easily fixable, but since this is a glass map, it makes you focus on watching your feet. It's not a design flaw, just the gametype its for.

By the way, I submitted it a glass server a while ago. I'll send John Galt an update and he should put it up after he gets back from wherever the hell he is. I'll post back here on the server info when he has it up.

I've never played a glass map before. In any case, the map was good, and I enjoyed it... despite the fact that the bots were VERY confused by the map.

Most wouldn't leave spawn. And that reminds me of something else I noticed.

There is a spot where the opposing side is clearly visible. A sniper could EASILY pick someone off the tower by aiming during the buy period and firing immediately. I reccomend that maybe you put glass surrounding the towers, to give people some time to actually find some cover.

It's no fun when you die within the first 10 seconds of the game. :O

Oh yeah, forgot to tell you about the little problem bots have with glass maps... they think the glass is their enemy. The map doesn't work with bots at all because it is glass. I found this quite frustrating when I was trying to test the map.

I've been working on a fix. "Working" as in "I just got off my lazy ass and worked on the map for 3 hours," but working nonetheless. The map was too small, so small that you could see your opponents spawn. That doesn't make good gameplay, so I worked on making the terrorists spawn in a giant fortress-thingy and destroyed the symmetricity (if thats not a word it should be) of the map. What's more, it makes the make look cooler!

Oooh! I must try this when I have time!

Thanks for updating... lol, when I tested the map with bots, I could AWP the other team within the first 10 seconds of the round, lol. XD
