Welcome to the studio, the Modacity sponsored art/creativity board. The first thing you should realize is that this is not just an art board--but for anything created by the users.
Here are a few categories of acceptable media:
3d art (real life models, or cg)
2d art (digital, traditional)
Photography
Music
Literature (short stories, fan fiction)
Win32 and Web-Based ProgrammingWe have a simple but strictly enforced ruleset for artists submitting work, please read carefully.

I'll break this up into categories.
3d art (real life models, or cg)
You must have at least two renders, and at least one wireframe. This rule is a little more flexible than others, but you MUST have a clear wireframe regardless.
Renders must be between 800x600 and 1000x750 , all others above 1000x750 must use [shot] tags.

You must state how many triangles the model is.
2d art (digital, traditional)
Whatever resolution you choose, but if you go over the 1000 width you must use shot tags.
Traditional art pictures should be between 800x600 and 1000x750, but shot tags are preferred.
Photography
Photography can be any resolution and aspect ratio that the artist sets, but every image must use [shot tags] regardless of resolution.Unless the image is smaller than 800x600 ~Timo
Music
This is something a bit more obscure, so rules are different. Not really sure, as long as music and other media that plays sound must not automatically begin playing when the page is loaded. It must have a means to start and stop playing at any point, as per the rules.
Literature (short stories, fan fiction)
The writer can post as much or as little, but there are no exeptions to poorly written material comparable to "half life 2--full life consequences (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHxyZaZlaOs)". I'm a grammar nazi, so don't be surprised if you get a warning for Irritating Post (http://www.modacity.net/forums/announcement.php?f=86) followed by a prompt close/deletion. Follow the rules of the board.
Win32 and Web-based programming is allowed to be posted here. This includes, but is not limited to, C and its derivatives, Java/Javascript, BASIC, (X)HTML, PHP, ASP, Cold Fusion, etc. Note that all programming posts must show some visual, as in output in general, GUIs, etc.
Only snippets of source code are allowed to be posted in code tags if asking for help or an opinion. A snippet is considered, max, one file, less than 1000 lines (including whitespace and comments) or 30kb. If there are multiple files, or if your snippet exceeds this limit, please zip up your source files, upload them to an external host, and link to them. Topic Naming Rubrick

Each topic must have a prefix, and a post icon ( http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/2d.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/3d.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/music.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/photography.png http://www.modacity.net/forums/styles/posticons/literature.png ) to state what type of media it is. You must also state the name of the piece.

[WIP] means Work In Progress. obviously, use this to show progress on a piece. You can only have one WIP per piece, and you must post all updates in this topic. Any time you update a piece, you must add the latest render to the first post.

[COMPLETE] This is for completed pieces, you may make a new topic for this. The final piece will be moved to the Completed Art Archive where it will remain.

[GALLERY] Gallery topics are free range--you dont have to have a post icon, and you can add as much art as you have. you may have only ONE gallery topic.

Examples:

[WIP] Banana Nut Cream
[COMPLETE] Holy Water Super Soaker
[GALLERY] My crap since 2002

Example WIP Topic (http://www.modacity.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9285)

The proper URL for "Baking Ambient Occlusion Maps" should be: http://www.game-artist.net/forums/vbarticles.php?do=article&articleid=37

Good collection :D. Couple more that might also be good are:

Texturing:

Texturing Hard Surfaces (http://www.game-artist.net/forums/spotlight-articles/42-tutorial-hard-surface-texture-painting.html) (uses Ambient Occlusion for a nicer effect)
Building Texture Maps for Material Shaders (http://www.moddb.com/tutorials/24344/building-essential-texture-maps-for-material-shaders-using-photoshop) (ex. the whole shebang - diffuse, spec and bump)

I would also suggest that if your images do NOT meet the resolution requirements we've put here, either thumbnail them and give a brief description, or do not post them. Do not go making a topic that is just links to images.

Here's the thing with spoiler tags. This is a GALLERY section. It is intended to show your art work. If people don't want to see the images, why are they here in the first place? It is more annoying to have to click the spoiler button every time someone wants to see the image then it is to scroll past them. You don't see black sheets over paintings in art galleries that say "Spoiler" and you have to lift them to see the painting, do you?

I understand why people put them on but just leave them off....unless you're Ross and have 65 million different images.

Not to mention, you guys wouldn't feel the need to use spoiler tags if you could be judicious with how many images you're posting. If you're feeling like posting a ridiculous number of images, perhaps you should just link to your image host in your sig.

I would be judicious about the number of images you post. Don't just post to get as many pieces as possible to get them seen, try to post your quality work.

You could also use the tag. :p

A bit?

A bit? It's fucking annorexic to the nth degree, how the hell could any anatomically correct human being comfortably hold that, let alone shoot it?

The rest seems more or less right, but that's one hell of an almighty cockup...
