So this happened to me twice now. I've got my Software folder where I store my software (surprise surprise) and all of a sudden when I want to open it, it gives me an error: File or folder is damaged or can't be read. I got all pissed and angry because it contained quite alot of stuff... 15 minutes later I try again and see the folder works again.

Just now it happened again, only to a subfolder of the same map. I'm starting to get really annoyed by all of this. Is my HDD such a failure?

So does anyone know what causes it, any general help/word of advice?

I get that a lot when I download/transfer large-ish (100mb to 1GB) files via wireless. Or are they just files sitting in a folder somewhere on your HDD?

I download my torrents to that folder, but other than that they're just files sitting in a folder.

E: it's working again after a reboot.

Reboot, something is probably using it/was using it and still has "control", hard to explain but usually rebooting does the trick. Maybe end explorer.exe and restart it via new process button.

Rebooted and the PC automatically ran chkdsk and fixed it. Thanks.

I think your hard drive is going to fail soon, back it up while you still can. Try to find a hdd benchmarking tool, there are some out there, and run some tests.
