Looks really really nice man.
With the adjusted reflection mask it will be perfect.
Maybe the waist/torso armour would look better if it were darker or more like the shoulder/chest armour?

Looking great, man. Hair seems a bit too much like it's had a once-over with metallic paint, though... could use a lot less sheen.

I think it could use more.

For someone who never models, that looks pretty good. There's a lot I would have done differently, but perhaps it's just a matter of style.

This is only the second thing I've ever done myself from concept to finished textures (last one was the flood infestation). The modelling was a bit of a learning curve for me, seeing as I don't ever really model.
So what is this all for, Gears of the Rings?

Yeah. The specular on the hair is way to powerful. Try to break up the solid color look to the hair as well. Make the hair strands stand out a bit more.
It may just be the render on the second part though.

Leave them the way they are. It would look odd if they faced another direction.

Maybe make the spades darker?
Sort of bring them out, and on heart and diamond characters make them redder?

That just looks... great. If it was up to me I'd tone down the amount of "noise" going on on the metal, but that's more my personal preference. It's really cool that this is your job now :D

ill get them done maybe tonight, but i did just move out of home, into zillas place and ive gotta move my pc again into my room, but i should be able to steal an hour or two to get it done.
also, heres hte uv map for the dwarfs armour, just cause I've noticed peopel have been talking a bit more about uv layouts and stuff, so I figured I'd show my idea of a good one:

Heh, don't worry about it. Just my weekly nagging there :p
So much... stuff going on there, I'd never be able to get all that mapped out nicely. I was never good at UV mapping though.

I like it, I actually hate it when people try to compromise things like under the armpits and it causes stretching, it gives a lot of room for freedom and to be detailed.

I hardly read through threads, cba with most of the drama so I usually catch the pictures and last posts. Yours was the last post I read. As the words I read materialised into a virtual sound in my brain It dawned on me that your post was pretty ignorant to the fact that Dane obviously knows how to use full efficiency of an Unwrap, this is his gallery thread, other people dont care that you hate it when people sacrifice 'armpit' geometry faces when Unwrapping. I felt your post was more trivial and unnecessary than what was needed as it seemed you were trying to 'portray' someone who was trying to give teachings, 'it gives a lot of room for freedom and to be detailed'.
Overall I found your post rather patronising, hence the modern culture statement 'Thank You Professor' mocking your self acclaimed status of 'teacher'.
I hope that clarifies your questionable disaproval.
p.s Dane get on MSN more :D

Tony modelled the body, I modelled the armour, and did hte uvws/textures/renders obviously. I also posted the concept i made for this guy in here somewhere, dunno where though.

His skin looks too clean, add a few scars and some hair (unless he waxes his armpits).
edit: also, the small amount of face you see lacks character.
the armour looks great though

Well, lag, hes an elf, so hes sposed to be more etheral than the other fellas, and his face is meant to be masked. Hes all ninjery, but he does need hair.

I like the design. Definitely reminds me of dragonlance. I see its a lot more realistically proportioned than the last guy, and im not catching any pronounced spades/hearts/clubs/diamonds references, so is this for a completely different project?
E: nvm, apparently its the same project
Edit: I don't really have any criticism that conscars didn't already mention. However instead of scars to break the boringness of the skin, you could try belts and straps that actually hold the armor on.

Seems a bit beefy for an elf, then again no harm in breaking old stereotypes I guess?
Looks pretty good, armour is awesome. I agree with Con, though. A bit of humanity as far as skin goes shouldn't hurt. I reckon his skin could use a new colour too, possibly brighter, a tad more saturated, and a little shiny. At the moment I'm not getting the whole elf vibe from it.

I dont see why everyone is all up about the skin, seeing as hes an elf, and elfs arent very hairy or nastily textured at all, in fact they're often very clean. If I added all this hair and cuts and brusies, he'd just look like a total human. If I saturated his skin more, he'd look tanned and sunbaked.
What im going to do is actually add more of a blueish tinge to his skin and actually make him paler, with a bit of light hair on him, maybe a tatoo.
I also think the redness of his armour doesn't help either, but bosses orders. I originally wanted him to be silver with gold detailing, and a red specular falloff fresnel effect, but boss didn't think it was eviently "heart" enough.
Oh I just realised I never showed the human. I'll get a render of him later. He's the first to be rigged so I should be able to get a cool pose of him, still doing the facial shapes.

If it weren't for your texturing style, I would never guess that these two characters came from the same project. The dwarf character is so unrealistic in his proportions and features, but the elf isn't. Its not that either of them look bad, they both succeed at capturing a certain style, its just that their styles are so different. its sort of like the difference between ganondorf (http://gaygamer.net/images/Ganondorf_twilight.jpg) and wario (http://asmallvictory.net/idol/archives/Wario.jpg).

Well they are 2 different races. You would expect the culture to be different :|
ICEE

it has nothing to do with culture, its just different design style. One is realistic and the other is almost cartoony.

I suppose it could be because of that. Seems like a bit of a stretch still but whatever, thats what makes games stand out. Looks like an interesting project, very interested to see how it unfolds

We didn't say make it nasty, or add "all this hair and cuts and bruises". What I originally said was add some hair, and it seems people agree that he would look better with hair. I'm not saying make him look like a grizzly bear, just a little bit of hair here and there to show the connection with humanity that I assume this race has. Typically, elves in stories have common ancestry with humans, so it would make sense to show artifacts. Nobody actually said anything about cuts and bruises, I just mentioned maybe adding a couple scars since he's a warrior and all. By all means, leave him the way he is, but it seems people think he could be better off with a few of these touches without becoming human.

tried it, hair isn't noticeable, only really on the armpits which even still just doesn't look elfish to me. Fine hair i added, but you still can't see it anyway. Not a whole lot of skin is being shown.
The hair quite literally isn't noticeable at all. The areas that are showing through the armour, even naturally, have minimal amounts of hair. The only parts I can see are leg hairs, forearm hairs, eyebrows and a slight armpit fuzz. Even then, you can't see such changes anyway. Scars I might do, maaaaybe. Dirt, definatly.

I think the only problem with the skin is that it looks exceptionally flat. There isn't much definition between high and low areas, and could use a very, very light shine to it. Also with the armor, the texture looks good, but the material seems far too clean. I've never seen metal that shiny and that reflective, so it's possible a "dirt map" would be of benefit. Looks good otherwise.
