So the other day I thought I'd better install SP1, so I tried and it didn't show up and then I remembered I had to manually uninstall the SP1 RC (release candidate, for all you n00bies) from add/remove programs under windows updates. So I tried and then it gets all the way to the end, it says 100% in uninstall stage 3/3, and then it waits a while and finally spits back at me, "Sorry, service pack did not uninstall. Reverting changes" or something along those lines. Then I had to wait like an hour before it finally shut down and I could get back to my desktop, where I found that the RC truly was not uninstalled.

Through some googling, I found that other people have this same problem too. I couldn't find a solution though. Has anyone had this problem? How do I fix it?

Clearly, if it said "reverting changes" then obviously it wouldn't just magically have uninstalled after it rebooted.

I don't know of any fixes, but would the UAC be preventing you from uninstalling?

Nope. It's turned off.
